[HCDX] World Music Radio 25800

2024-03-04 Thread Stig Hartvig Nielsen via Hard-Core-DX

World Music Radio (WMR) is testing a new 300 Watts transmitter (AM carrier)
on 25800 kHz since February 19 - instead of the old one which was 60 Watts
(AM carrier) only. Unfortunately we are causing some interference to a
local Ethernet set up. So at times modulation has been lowered, and power is
slightly under 300 Watts.

Signals can be heard worldwide. With a bit of luck and patience as well as a
good receiver and a good aerial. Best chances are in Southern Europe,
Northern Africa, Russia, and Eastern North America. But signals have also
been picked up in Western North America, Japan, South America, Australia/NZ,
the Middle East, South Africa, and Japan.

All World Music Radio frequencies: 927, 5930, 15700, and 25800 kHz are on
the air 24/7.

QSL’s available from World Music Radio, PO Box 112, DK-8960 Randers SØ,
Denmark. Please enclose return postage (2 IRCs or 5 euro) if possible. The
printed 2024 QSL card will be available soon (before Summer hopefully).

[HCDX] World Music Radio and Radio208

2023-04-13 Thread Stig Hartvig Nielsen

World Music Radio (WMR) has commenced using a new 300 Watts transmitter from
April 12 2023 on 15700 kHz after several months with 10 Watts only here. The
transmitter is currently being run on a test basis 24/7 – but from next week
it will be Saturdays and Sundays only. Occasionally on weekdays (I can put
the transmitter on - by request, should anyone want it). So far results
have been good. The signals has been monitored via KiwiSDRs in South Africa,
Kenya, Argentina, Brazil, Bonaire, USA, Iceland, Russia, Ireland, many
places in Central and South Europe, the Middle East, Australia and New
Zealand. The aerial is a three element yagi beamed south. The transmitter is
slightly off channel (a bit below 15700.0 kHz); this will be adjusted as
soon as possible. Works will also be done to improve the audio quality on
15700 kHz.

WMR is still on the air on 927 kHz (150 Watts), 5930 kHz (100 Watts), and
25800 kHz (60 Watts). These three frequencies are on the air 24/7. Power on
5930 kHz will soon be increased to 200 Watts. In the last few months 25800
has been monitored almost all over the world - at times - due to the current
high sunspot numbers.

Radio208 has had some issues with a new 300 Watts transmitter on 5970 kHz –
replacing the old 100 Watts transmitter, which was running around 75 Watts
only. The new transmitter has been on and off for the past few weeks. It
was put back into service again today at 10 UTC, the power lowered to 200
Watts, and hopefully it will continue now. Later, plans are to improve the
dipole aerial for 5970, and thus increase power to 300 Watts again. Also
problems with the aerial for 1440 kHz. Currently 1440 is running low power
(around 20-30 Watts), so still audible locally. It may take a couple of
weeks until 1440 can return to full power, which may be 500 Watts instead of
the ‘normal’ 400 Watts. We are considering a new aerial, which would
improve reception in central Copenhagen. Both 5970 and 1440 kHz are on the
air 24/7.

I am very late sending out QSL’s. Sorry! The new WMR 2023 QSL is currently
being designed, and will hopefully be ready by the end of the month. Kindly
– please – notice that reports using remote receivers are not wanted, and
they are not QSLed. E-QSLs are free of charge of course, but if a printed
QSL card is desired, kindly send five euro – or two IRCs to cover return
postage. Donations are always VERY welcome. Address is: World Music
Radio/Radio208, PO Box 112, DK-8960 Randers SØ, Denmark. Paypal via

[HCDX] World Music Radio on 25800 kHz

2022-12-01 Thread Stig Hartvig Nielsen

Good conditions are forecast for propagation on the 11 meter band in December.
Currently there is only one radio station using the 11 meter band, World Music
Radio (WMR). Best chances for receiving WMR on 25800 kHz (60 Watts only) in
different parts of the world - acc. to the monthly 'Funkprognose' in
Radio-Kurier Weltweit Hören (thanks to Hans Zekl):

West Africa: 08-16 UTC
Central Africa: 07-16 UTC
South Africa: 06-16 UTC
East Africa: 06-15 UTC
Middle East: 07-14 UTC
South Asia: 07-12 UTC
Indonesia: 06-10 & 13-14 UTC
East Asia: around 08 UTC
South East Asia & Philippines: 07-13 UTC
Southern North America: 14-16 UTC
Eastern North America, The Caribbean & Central America: 13-16 UTC
Northern South America: 12-17 UTC
South East South America: 09-17 UTC

[HCDX] World Music Radio 25800 kHz

2022-05-07 Thread Stig Hartvig Nielsen
For almost a year World Music Radio has been broadcasting 24/7 on 25800 kHz
with 60 Watts from Mårslet, south of Aarhus in Jutland, Denmark. Propagation on
the 11 meter band (25670-26100 kHz) is improving and 25800 can currently be
heard almost daily in Southern Europe and Western+Northern Africa and sometimes
also in the Middle East and as far away as Western Australia and the Americas.

I've been looking in the propagation forecast ('Funkprognose') in Weltweit
Hören for May 2022 - and found that best chances of catching WMR on 25800 kHz
are as follows:
Western Africa: 11-18 UTC
Central Africa: 06-19 UTC (especially 14-18 UTC)
Southern Africa: 06-20 UTC (especially 09-17 UTC)
Eastern Africa: 05-18 UTC (especially 09-17 UTC)
Middle East: 10-16 UTC
South East Asia: 06-17 UTC
Western Australia: 06-12 UTC (especially 10-11 UTC)
South East Australia: 06-09 UTC
Brazil/Uruguay/Argentina: 10-20 UTC

A very good indicator to check propagation on 11m is this site:
https://www.dxmaps.com/spots/mapg.php?Lan=E If the 10 m amateur band (28 MHz)
is open, chances are that 11 m is also open.

WMR also broadcasts 24/7 on 927 kHz (200W), 5930 kHz (200W) and 15700 kHz
(20W). Hopefully power on 15700 will soon be increased to 200W.

Reception reports are welcomed to: World Music Radio, PO Box 112, DK-8960
Randers SØ, Denmark. Please enclose return postage (five euro or 1-2 IRC's) if
possible. The new 2022 QSL hasn't been printed yet but the design is ready.

Btw: I think WMR is the only broadcasting station currently using the 11 meter
band. But according to FCC-files it seems like licences have been issued to a
number of (utility?) transmitters in the 11 mb in the US: 25870, 25910, 25950,
25990, 26000, 26030, 26070, 26090 and 26100 for four different services:
'Broadcast Auxiliary (low power)', 'Broadcast Auxiliary Remote Pickup', 'XC'
and 'XT'. I didn't find any details about modulation (NFM?) or power. Wondering
if these stations actually are on the air?

[HCDX] World Music Radio on four frequencies - 15790 on air on now

2021-06-17 Thread Stig Hartvig Nielsen
World Music Radio (WMR) is now broadcasting on four AM frequencies:

The new frequency 25800 kHz in the 11 metre band went on the air June 14th
2021 at 11 UTC. The power is 100 Watts – or some 250 Watts ERP – and the
transmitter site is on top of a 110 m tall aerial tower in Mårslet in the
southern outskirts of Aarhus, Denmark. The transmitter will be on the air
24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing very good coverage to Aarhus,
the second largest city in Denmark. Occasionally the signal can also be
heard much further afield via E skip or F2 propagation when conditions are
good. As the sunspot number is increasing – until the maximum is reached
(probably) in the Summer of 2025 – long distance reception on 25800 kHz will
improve.

15790 kHz is on the air with 200 Watts into a three element yagi beamed
south. The transmitter site is north of Randers, and this transmitter is on
the air regularly every Saturday and Sunday at 0700-2000 UTC. During the
summer period the transmitter is often kept on the air continuously from
Saturday morning at 0700 until Sunday at 2100 or 2200 UTC.

This weekend will also see a extended schedule: WMR will be on the air on
15790 kHz from today June 17th at 0700 UTC - continuously until June 21st at
2200 UTC. Good opportunities for a great DX catch - in particular when the
19 metre band is open after sunset (around 20 UTC).

WMR continues broadcasting on 5930 kHz with 200 Watts from Bramming in SW
Denmark using a horizontal dipole. Future plans: 500 Watts

After four years of struggle, WMR finally began broadcasting on MW 927 kHz
from Hvidovre, Copenhagen, on April 14th 2021. Initially with 50 Watts only;
power was gradually increased, and is now 250 Watts. Within the next few
weeks the power will be increased to 500 Watts. The aerial is a coil aerial.
The transmitter provides excellent reception in the larger Copenhagen area
and in parts of Zealand and SW Sweden during daytime. Unfortunately a very
powerful, Italian pirate station (supposedly from around Milan) began using
927 kHz a short while after WMR was launched on 927, making reception of WMR
impossible in most parts of Europe, and even causing severe interference to
WMR on 927 kHz in Denmark during evenings and night time.

Reception reports are welcome. A printed full detail QSL card is available
for correct reports by mail to World Music Radio, PO Box 112, DK-8960
Randers SØ, Denmark – if possible please enclose return postage (two duly
stamped International Reply Coupons or a five euro note). A printed full
detail QSL card is also available if you send your report by email, and at
the same time make a donation of at least 50 DKK via PayPal to
paypal.me/worldmusicradio

A non detailed eQSL is available for reports to w...@wmr.dk

Kindly note that reports using remote receivers are not QSLed.

World Music Radio (WMR) has a new frequency in the 19 mb: 15790 kHz.
(Previously on 15805) On the air every Saturday and Sunday 0700-2000 UTC.
Power is 200 W into a 3 element yagi (due South).
Testing from today Friday if everything works ok. I will probably leave the
transmitter on all weekend - from now continuously until Sunday 20 UTC.
Reception reports are welcome to World Music Radio, PO Box 112, DK-8960
Randers SØ, Denmark (for a printed QSL-card, pennant and stickers - please
enclose return postage 2 IRCs or 5 euro if you can) or via email to
w...@wmr.dk (for an eQSL). Please note that reception reports using remote
receivers are not QSLed. I try to reply to all reports within 1-2 months.
5840 kHz (24h) will be changed to 5930 kHz (0700-1745) before the end of
December 2020.
927 kHz (24h) is due on the air in January 2021.

Radio208 has transmitter problems. 5805 kHz (250W) from Hvidovre went silent
late on November 22nd. Back on the air on the new frequency of 5970 kHz
(200W) December 9th - but nothing on December 10th. Today December 11th from
1030 UTC the transmitter is back on the air, but we have lowered power to 50
Watt only, hoping that the transmitter can work with this. So Radio208 now
on 5970 kHz (50W) daily 0700-1600 UTC.
1440 kHz (24h) remains on the air from Ishøj, Copenhagen.
Reception reports are welcome to Radio 208, PO Box 112, DK-8960 Randers SØ,
Denmark (for a printed QSL-card and stickers - please enclose return postage
2 IRCs or 5 euro if you can) or via email to m...@radio208.dk (for an eQSL).

[HCDX] World Music Radio on 15805 kHz

2020-06-17 Thread hartvig
Line breaks on HCDX are a bit of a mystery to me. This is how it should be:

WMR on 15805 kHz (200 W) - transmitter site: Randers. And remember to use AM
only. Listening in LSB or USB sounds awful. Something`s always wrong at WMR
:-)

WMR on 5840 kHz (100 W) - transmitter site: Bramming.

F.pl.: Power increase to 500 W on 5840 kHz.

F.pl.: New transmitter on 927 kHz (500 W) in Hvidovre

Yes - I'm testing a new audio feed for the 15805 kHz transmitter. Hopefully
more stable than the previous one, which sometimes would run 24 hrs without
a single drop out - at other times produce drop outs almost continuously.
Something`s always wrong at WMR!

My plan is to keep 15805 kHz (200 W) on the air 24/7 for the next week or
two. Should give DXers around the world a chance to catch 15805 when
conditions on 15 MHz in some rare cases might improve. Currently propagation
on 15 MHz is usually poor with a few fair days, but right now at this time
of the years I suppose chances are the best.

[HCDX] World Music Radio is back on 15805 kHz

2020-04-11 Thread hartvig

After having been silent on SW since September 2019, World Music Radio (WMR) is
now back on 15805 kHz using a 3 element yagi beamed south - every Saturday and
Sunday at 07-20 UTC. The transmitter power is 200 Watts and the signal is
audible almost worldwide for dedicated DXers. Unless one is in Eastern
Jutland, Denmark and can get the ground wave, having a good receiver, a good
aerial and being at a site without man made interference - as well as having
patience - and listening at the right time of the day (when propagation is
best) is needed in order to catch WMR on 15805.

Best reception usually is in Southern Europe, but it is also possible to
receive 15805 kHz in the Eastern Europe, Middle East, all over Africa, in parts
of South America and the Eastern part of North America. Also in Asia “on a
good day”.

Sometimes 15805 suffer from some interference from a Chinese station on 15800
kHz.

Sometimes short skip propagation is providing excellent reception in Central
Europe. But propagation is changing all the time and catching the low power
signals from WMR on 15805 is really a challenge for DXers in most places. It is
not just switching on your receiver and tuning in – as is often the case with
big international broadcasters using 100,000 – 500,000 Watts of power.

Please note that the signals of WMR on 15805 kHz are only suitable for AM
listening, so don’t use SSB.

Reception reports are acknowledged by an eQSL for reports sent to w...@wmr.dk
- or by a QSL card (as well as stickers and as long as stocks last: a pennant)
for reports sent to World Music Radio, PO Box 112, DK-8960 Randers SØ, Denmark
(kindly enclose return postage: 2 IRCs, 5 euro or equivalent. Sorry but 1 or 2
USD won’t do). Please note that reception reports using remote receivers (such
as remote Kiwi SDRs) are not QSLed.

There are two reasons for WMR being off air on SW for several months. First the
Danish telecom agency refused to issue a new license to utilise “out of band
frequencies on a non-interference basis”. This issue was however settled.
Second problem was a storm which damaged the yagi aerial. The aerial was
repaired a few days ago and it now works very well again - from the transmitter
site just north of Randers in Eastern Jutland, Denmark.

The second SW frequency of WMR, 5840 kHz, is expected to be back on the air
from a new transmitter site by the end of April 2020.

[HCDX] World Music Radio - WMR

2019-07-13 Thread Stig Hartvig Nielsen

World Music Radio (WMR) is now broadcasting on 15805 kHz (200 W) with a new 3
element yagi. Currently the aerial is beamed north thus providing coverage of
WMR in northern Scandinavia - during daytime every Saturday and Sunday (07-20

Europe, in Ireland and western UK, in Russia and eastern North America.

Photos at: https://www.facebook.com/WorldMusicRadioWMR/

Meanwhile WMR continues broadcasting on 5840 kHz (100 W) 24 hours a day 7 days
a week.

Transmitter site of both SW frequencies: Randers, Denmark.

Reception reports are welcome at w...@wmr.dk . If a printed QSL card is desired
reports must be sent to World Music Radio, PO Box 112, DK-8960 Randers SØ,

Re: [HCDX] World Music Radio - WMR

2019-07-06 Thread e-mail nrgreen via Hard-Core-DX
Frequency 15805 is also being heard on the coast in NW England at 1000 UTC. The
signal is peaking to around S6 with fades down to S1. After tuning the
frequency many times this is the first time I've been able to positively hear
WMR.

Reception is best using my NRD 525 and a loop antenna, but is also audible -
but weaker - via my IC-R75 coupled to a random long wire.

and tomorrow Sunday 07-20 UTC. Fair to good reception right now in many
parts of reception - including SW United Kingdom, Austria, Romania, Northern
Scandinavia, Italy and Russia

5840 kHz is still on the air with some 25 - 35 W ... continuously.

World Music Radio (WMR) is usually broadcasting on 15805 kHz every Saturday and
Sunday. This weekend however - no transmission today Saturday.
So Sunday only.

Meanwhile there is a problem with the audio feed for the 5840 kHz transmitter.
Hopefully this will be brought back to normal tonight.

2019-03-10 Thread Stig Hartvig Nielsen

World Music Radio (WMR) is back on 5840 kHz (100 W) transmitting from Randers,
Denmark. It has been off the air due to a transmitter fault, but now hopefully
again running 24/7.

I have switched 15805 kHz (200 W) off at 1830 UTC. I have some problems with
the two transmitters at the same site. Good reception of WMR on 15805 kHz at
times in Southern Europe today and also audible in Eastern North America for
some hours this afternoon, and noted in Brazil until 18 UTC. However - still
less than ten reception reports received for 15805 kHz.

[HCDX] World Music Radio

2019-01-12 Thread Stig Hartvig Nielsen

I had some problems with the 15 MHz tx this morning, but now (1210 UTC) 15805
kHz is (finally) on the air. Till 2000 UTC today. And hopefully again tomorrow
Sunday 07-17 UTC. Possibly the transmitter may be switched off briefly if/when
needed for adjusting 5840 kHz transmitter.

5840 kHz remains off air (since Sunday), but will hopefully return to the air
sometime this weekend.

[HCDX] World Music Radio 15805 kHz

2019-01-06 Thread Stig Hartvig Nielsen

World Music Radio (WMR) commenced broadcasting on 15805 kHz on December 25th
2018 and has now been on the air daily (well almost) since then. Now today
is the final day of daily broadcasting. As from tomorrow WMR will only be on
the air on 15805 kHz Saturday and Sundays.

Broadcasting hours are 0700-2000 UTC and the power is only 0.2 kW making it
a difficult – and irregular - catch. But the signal does get out. Right now
(08 UTC) WMR can be heard in Russia (Ural and perhaps into Siberia) and in
Southern Europe. In a couple of hours the signal can be picked up in Brazil
and around 13-16 UTC good reception has been experienced almost daily in
Eastern North America on 15805. Propagation after local sunset in Denmark is
apparently rather ‘sketchy’. Only once the signal made a short skip
propagation into Ireland and Western UK. Would be interesting to learn if
the signal can be received – anywhere – after 16 or 17 UTC.

Reception reports are welcome to w...@wmr.dk and will usually be QSLed within
a month.

[HCDX] World Music Radio - WMR

2018-12-28 Thread Stig Hartvig Nielsen

World Music Radio (WMR) commenced broadcasting on 15805 kHz on December 24th
2018 with a power of 200 W. Transmissions were irregular for the first
couple of days, but should hopefully now be regular. The old transmitter and
the simple aerial willing. Until January 6th 2019 the approx. hours of daily
operation will be 0700-2000 UTC. As from January 7th 15805 kHz will
probably be on the air Saturday-Sunday only.

Power is only 200 W, which of course is a very low on the 19 meter band,
propagation is quite poor on this band now - and the aerial (a simple
dipole) is not very efficient so reception is quite difficult and irregular.
So far - poor to fair reception in Southern Europe has been observed in
daytime till around 1300 UTC and fair to good reception in Ireland,
Scotland, western England and Iceland has been experienced during evenings
around 17-20 UTC.

Transmissions on 5840 kHz continues 24/7 with a power of 100 W.

The transmitter site for 5840 as well as 15805 kHz is Randers, Denmark.

QSL-CARDS

Please note that the current QSL-design will be used for reception reports
covering reception in 2018 only. A new design will be used in 2019.

An eQSL is available for reports sent to w...@wmr.dk - a reply can be
expected within a month or so.

A printed QSL is available for reports sent to World Music Radio, PO Box
112, DK-8960 Randers SØ, Denmark. Return postage is kindly required. For a
fast reply enclose 5 euro or 5 USD (QSL will be mailed from Denmark, where
postage rates are the highest in the world - 29DKK for a post card). If less
return postage is enclosed, you will still get a QSL-card, but will have to
wait some time till the QSLs can be mailed out from outside of Denmark.

Please note that no QSLs are available for reports made by listening via
remote receivers.

MEDIUM WAVE

No news as for 927 kHz Copenhagen. Still struggling to find a transmitter
site there.

WMR (World Music Radio) is on the air right now (Friday 1230 UTC) and
until Monday morning 0700 UTC. The frequency is 5815 kHz - and power is
5 kW.

And without any Christmas music... guaranteed :-)

Reception of WMR is possible in large parts of Europe during daytime.
The deep winter seasons means that reception close to the transmitter
site in Denmark becomes poor after sunset. However reception in Southern
Europe should be all right in the evening hours.

Reception overseas is sporadic but sometimes possible in the Americas
after 22 UTC. From Africa, Asia and Pacific we haven't received any
reports recently.

[HCDX] World Music Radio - antenna change

2004-06-07 Thread Stig Hartvig Nielsen

Our two dipoles for 5815 and 15810 kHz are not very far apart from each
other and we have had a feeling that the radiations from both aerials
were affected. This morning (Monday 7th) we have changed the directions
of our dipole for 15810 kHz and hopefully reception has improved on this
frequency in the prime coverage area (which is + 1,000 km from Denmark).

The change might also have improved reception during the hours of
darkness on 5815 kHz - again in areas approx. +1,000 km from Denmark. We
don't expect daytime coverage to be affected.

We kindly invite monitoring observations by e-mail to this address:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] from listeners who can compare reception now with reception
as it used to be.

Thanks in advance

disappeared behind strong noise.
Today's news is that they are now on 5815 kHz with a very strong carriar. I
heard them with QSA 4-5 and without disturbances at all at 1440 UTC. Stig
Hartvig Nielsen on WMR confirmed that it's them and that they are going to
have test programming in a few days.

Anglo-american pop and country non stop, no Danish songs, no announcements.
Signal strength S9+10dB in peaks, low level of modulation.
Deep fade outs when the signal always completely disappeared for one or two minutes,

Re: [HCDX] World Music Radio testing on 15810

Fair to poor signal, with deep fades, until approx.
1650 when definitely lost. Propagation conditions not
bad today, and I have been having audio for the first
time from what I believe is the MARLO station on
15500U as well.
