thought so...(maybe dot-iso related!)But, I am still a long way from
proving this one. Yes, I am a Seagate "fan-boy." Perhaps this is
unfortunate. I can live with this, however. The bad news is that most or
your 1st para went right over my head! Not your problem. It is
mine :)

Seagate & Maxtor have a free version of Acronis TrueImage that work well
while lacking compression & some other premium TI features. All you need
is a detectable Seagate or Maxtor drive in the system for the software's
check i.e. you hang any old drive off the system just to satisfy the
check, does not have to be the drives you're imaging.

This may be a way to go; for the "data" drive. I am still focused on the
main machine rebuild. Since I do not have the experience yet to do
binary-magic yet, I will do this the way we did things back in 1998.
Worked then; should work nowMaybe. If not, it is all backed up
anyway.

There are times when I feel so lame. Now is one of those times... :)
Best,
Duncan

Agreed! The woman who did the GLaDOS voice is an opera singer. Playing through with

Less if you forgo fat Gabe's should-be-cheaper Steam download & buy the physical
product in a store:

LOL, I get "Steamed" when I see that Steam download costs more than retail! Trick is
to buy it in store, then do the download with it's key so you don't need the DVD to play.

There's some good add-on levels for portal but I've still not beaten all the
advanced. Did manage to blow through the game a second time in about 5 hours one day
while testing my new video card! ;)

Rick,
Thanks for the info. It turned out that microsoft has gotten better about
removing all the added patches of late when major products are
removed. When I checked the system the following morning, all of the past
winupdate patches (26) associated with O2K3 were also gone from the
Add/Remove Prgms window of the control panel. And, all the various 'temp'
directories remained clear also. I now have 1.53GB of free space on the OS
hard drive after a few defrags.

Ultimately, I plan to replace this scsi install with a partitioned 80GB

Not sure whether to try and iso the current drive, or, just rebuild from

Yes, a cancer on the face of quality gaming, consoles get more attention!

Supposed (bullshit) claim is piracy on the PC is eating their profits but fact
is
costs of rising hardware specs for latest games means fewer sales. Nevermind
that
almost no one directly publishes anymore. Westwood, Sierra, etc... gone
swallowed up
leaving PC gamers at the mercy of non-developer publishers like EA, Vivendi,
THQ,
etc... who's predatory practices drop support and inject themselves between
users &
outside developer studios.

IMHO Halo (or Gaylo as I've like to poke at the kids when the play it) is a
weak
console FPS title generally speaking content & game play wise. Even weaker
still when
compared to PC games/engines like Crysis, Quakes, HL2:source, Stalker, COD, BF,
etc... but then I am admittedly pro-PC/anti-console & really hate Bungie/Halo
products.

Re: [H] HD PC recording

2008-06-23 Thread Winterlight

Tivo allows you to transfer a HD recording to your computer? Even scrambled
cable channel

No, you have to get one of those cable cards from your cable
provider, in place of a cable box. You still have to rent it and have
an account. You put that in and then use TIVO as your cable box. The
difference is that TIVO HD has a CAT5 plug. I haven't actually done
this, but this is how it was explained to me by the TIVO rep. And
that was last year so this stuff isn't new. The Hauppauge one
uses your computer to process and store the recordings. It works
between the cable box and the PC.
