Agree with all those who say the Aerons are great. At my last job (Fed govt)
just about everybody in the whole place had an Aeron. Thousands and thousands
of Aerons... kind of made me sick to think about!

But it WAS a nice chair!!

I'm in the market for a new chair for my office/computer. For many
years now I have just used cheap (about $150 or so) chairs as I
 couldn't rationalize spending more.

But seeing that I spend 8-10 hours a day (or more) in that chair, I
probably should make a substantial investment. My wife says I should
get an Aeron, but omg those things are expensive.

So what do you all use to cradle your buns all day? Recommendations?

The Aeron chairs are indeed expensive, but you should only have to buy one.
They are comfortable and don't break down over time.

You could also look at the Knoll Chadwick chairs. They are also a mesh
design, are comfortable, and have good longevity. They're not cheap, but
usually not as high as the Aeron. This is the chair my work uses.

If your wife has already approved the Aeron, you'd be a fool not to just do
that. :)

Well I've been looking at chairs like that for *years* and still yet to pull
the trigger on it due to the cost (me just being inherently cheap and
chringing that spending that much on a chair), but if you're looking at an
Aeron you should also look at Steelcase Leap or Humanscale Freedom chairs
too. I think the Leap is the best of those, but there might be newer ones
since then that might be as good or better, though you're still looking at
$700-$1000 for one of those with all the options (like getting the neckrest
for the Leap since I need the neck support).

Just google for comparisons of those chairs and you'll find out the latest-I
haven't looked in years so there might be newer info available that way...

Part of the problem is I can't seem to find good customer reviews and
comparison of these chairs that isn't part of some marketing scheme.

It also appears that most of the user opinions are just that and vary
widely.

An Aeron, had it since 2001, amazing warranty, the bottom seat threads were
wearing out, they came and replaced it.

Worth the price and my butt and posture has been excellent ever since.

Right; thing with chairs is that they're very subjective-if you can find it,
try and find a showroom and try them out before you buy. See if it works
for you, as what's great for one person may not work for you at all. And
the problem is short-term tryouts are different from long-term use, so see
if you can get it from a place with a good return/exchange program too...

2010-03-20 Thread DSinc

Brian,
Excellent question. I will follow this thread. I'll dug up the info of
the chair I have used since the mid-90's. I got mine at Staples.

Elation III
Deluxe Managers Chair
Multi-Function Office Chair
mfg: Global
m/n 6220
Paid $299.99 (11-09-96)
List Price was $617.50

Believe the MFG went out of business, though.. :(

The height air-spring is beginning to sag, so I am in the market also!
It appears that the 15yr limited warranty expires in 2011.
