RE: [hlcoders] RE: Source SDK released

2004-11-05 Thread Kevin Gerry
Yeah, I know. I find it rather annoying that you have to spend the extra for
those extras when you already own them. >.<

Heck, I'd like it if it only showed packages that you'd NEED to buy to get
that... So, if you own HL already... Then it wouldn't bother with some of
them... Heck, or even if it lowered the price on the higher packages!

I would rather have DOD:S for my multiplayer. :(

Second, anyone find it odd that you're also buying the games you
already own when you buy silver/gold? Why not knock off 5 bucks from
silver to get DOD:S and HL:S along with HL2 and CS:S without the back
catalog... Call it the "fanboy package" ("I already own everything

I'm already paying 160 bucks for HL2 ( 50 bucks the game, 30 bucks

a) You don't buy CS:Source, you buy HL2 (you get access upon it's
release, until then you get CS:S), and CS:Source comes with it as
Multiplayer. no matter what you do, you're going to get CS:Source.
b) It sounds like it'd be far cheaper for you to download it through steam
c) Yeah, the code isn't included yet, that'll probably be released
around HL2's release.
So, in USD, HL2 Gold is 89.95 and comes with: HL2, CS:S, DOD:S, HL:S,
and all the old games (hl1, cs:cz, etc) plus a soundtrack, chance to win
a trip to valve, posters, etc. HL2 Silver comes with the gold games (no
extra stuff). HL2 bronze comes with HL2 and CS:S.
So, no matter what you do, you're stuck getting CS:Source, but you're
certainly not stuck ONLY getting it.

It's Steam. Updating is automatic. I'm assuming if you own a Source

in your Steam folder for the SDK (Steam\SteamApps\\sourcesdk).

[hlcoders] Source SDK released

2004-11-05 Thread Martin Otten
---

The initial version of the Source SDK has been released.
You need to own a Source game to have access to the SDK.

This release includes Source tools and work-in-progress
documentation. These tools allow creation of Counter-Strike Source
maps, models, and materials. Once the SDK is downloaded and
installed, all tools, example content and documentation will located
in your Steam folder Steam\SteamApps\\sourcesdk. Tools like
Hammer and Half-Life Model Viewer can be started directly from the
Steam SDK menu.

The Source SDK will be continously updated, this first
release doesn't contain any source code to build customized server &
client binaries (Mods).

Yes, but it also has "Documentation" and that's a good thing (assuming
it's something similar or better than the .doc files that came with the
Half-Life 1 Full SDK).

But another question. Do log_addaddress works on srcds ? I am trying
it and I receive the log with cs1.6 but not with source.
Thanks again !

cvarlist in the console shows the following commands for Source
regarding logs:
log : cmd
: : Enables standard log file <0|1>.
log_addaddress : cmd
: : Set address and port for remote host .
log_console : cmd
: : Echos event logging in console <0|1>.
log_events : cmd
: : Set UDP logging to remote host <0|1>.
log_level: cmd
: : Specifies a logging level 0..15 .
log_udp : cmd
: : Send log packets to hosts in address list <0|1>.

Ok thanks that was the problem.

But another question. Do log_addaddress works on srcds ? I am trying
it and I receive the log with cs1.6 but not with source.

Thanks again !

:/
heres a game
http://www.mindrover.com/mindrover/mindrover.htm
with this game you can designing AI for monsters on a good phisic engine
Ok, you can code use something similar with the steam phisic engine, I
suspect. Even design the "brain" with this game :D

thanks for the link
now i might be able to get my monster_bot that bit
smarter, and impress people when i submit it with
my
job applactions
I haven't not tested that still. Dont know how good
or bad or usefull is.
I think the better approach to AI is the simpler. To
have swarm beaviorsJus
(like swarm bees or CNC:Generals Mobs) you only need
3 simple rules. This
meme stuff is a lot much more complex. Its only
interesting because is a
block system construction, you can reuse beaviors
(follow, attack, sleep,
 runaway,..etc..)
I may start something with HL2 related to this in
the future. Because
BBOX will be not more a limitation with HL2, I
figure, will be posible to
have swarms of small enemys, enormeous, etc.. so a
better AI will be
interesting (having a giant monster and scort,
having swarms of
minirobots for a LEXX mod, etc..)
:D
