Re: [hlcoders] Please update the demo editor!

Where did you get this information? That's like saying Valve will never
update the Source engine again, because they never wrote it anywhere.

It's not going to happen. Valve has no plans to update the editor.

Ya, good point. Where does it say Valve isn't working on it? It's unfinished
business, I think valve should work on it! Do they even browse these mailing
lists?

Yeah do they. But honestly I don't *think* Valve is working on it.There's
simply not a big enough demand.

Re: [hlcoders] Please update the demo editor!

2009-05-01 Thread Matt Hoffman
I think it's less that they need to add new stuff to demo smoother, they
need to FIX it first. Demo Smoother + Demo UI is so full of bugs it's such a
hastle it's almost worth doing it by hand, the hard way.

(Decompile the map, import into 3ds Max, Create a camera path there, assign
it to a box, export out, compile, Place in game by either re-compiling or
find a way to do it in game (ent_create? I've never had any luck with
specifying stuff with that, there's no written syntax in the console), and
then parent the player to your model, and play the animation. Then record a
demo/use startmovie right away and record your path.

Unfortunately that is only useful for flythroughs and not actual gameplay...

I'm trying to figure out if they even use DS anymore, or if they do like I
outlined above with pre-computed paths done in 3ds Max. I know the L4D
intros are like that, but those have to be, because they are real time.

Ok everyone, I have sort of made a petition/general thread for this in the
steam forums, here:

Lets go there, and hopefully we can get the developers browsing there to
notice!
