[hlds] Forcing Spectator Mode When

2005-07-10 Thread WayneH
Is it possible [thru applicable VARs] to force players to go to spectator mode
WHEN they join outside the buytime limit?
I am unable to find an associated VAR that changes the join game timer.

[hlds] Srcds.exe undownloadable?

2005-07-10 Thread Giulio Pipitone
Hi all,
I'm experiencing a very strange problem, when I run hldsupdatetool I
download everything but the srcds.exe fileit looks it get all
updated BUT the source (I get the Hald Life 1.6, not SOurce) even if I
run hldsupdatetool to download the cstrike.
I have tryed the following queries:

hldsupdatetool.exe -command update -game cstrike -dir d:\HlServer\folder
hldsupdatetool.exe -command update -game Counter-Strike Source -dir
d:\HlServer\folder

I can see coming all files, also cstrike maps (dust, dust2, aztec...)
but at last I don't have the exe file to run, only hlds.exe which is
not the one to run css :(
Tryied to add also login functionality with -username and -password
parameters but nothing changed.

What am I doing wrong? All forums/sites I have fount in internet say I
have to run that tool in that way but it looks I get always the wrong
version...

Thank you for your help.

2005-07-10 Thread Ned

This is the command line to use,

hldsupdatetool.exe -command update -game Counter-Strike Source -dir
d:\HlServer

you need to delete everything in the directory and start over. You have
a combination of
1.6 and Source in the same folder. This page is also helpful

Re: [hlds] Srcds.exe undownloadable?

2005-07-10 Thread Ned

OOPs
remove the quotes and add user name and password
hldsupdatetool.exe -command update -game Counter-Strike Source -dir
d:\HlServer -username username
_password password

It seems they won't let you download srcds.exe with out the logon.

Its best to make a .bat file as discussed in the web page so you can put
a shortcut
on the desktop and update as necessary. Also did you run
hldsupdatetool.exe by
itself so it would update itself to the current version?

[hlds] Latest Update Causes Lag on all CS Source Servers

2005-07-10 Thread Whisper
--
[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
After the last SRCDS Update
Every server I play on now lags and/or players warping all over the place
and random complete lack of shot registration, or even better, when you know
you have missed, the opposition dies anyhow.
This happens on pingboosted and non-pingboosted servers as well as tickrate
default and increased tickrate servers.
There are currently no server settings seem to help alleviate the problem.
Moreover the Server CPU according to RCON Stats does not show any undue
stress on the servers.
Are Valve aware of the issue?
P.S. Its not just just my servers, its every damn server I play on now, and
I have quite a few servers to choose from.

Re: [hlds] Forcing Spectator Mode When

Why?
It is going to piss a lot of people off and people who join the winning
side wont be happy when they cant be on it and do not getting the winning
round bonus, nor are the people who end up on the losing side going to be
happy to have to eco for 2 rounds just because they were forced to sit in
spectator mode.
It'd be just useful to know why you would want such a feature

Username and password are no longer necessary when using the
hldsupdatetool. Just make sure you use different folders for Source and
HLDS stuff, and you should be ok.

Because of some strange reason I needed to put username and password.
I first was suggested to use a new folder not shared...I did it and I
didn't got the srcds, then I was suggested to run with username and
pass, I did it on same folder and more files arrived. I know it
shouldn't be necessary, I have also read in other forums, but I tried
both ways on clean folders and only with username and password the
srcds.exe file arrived...I have experienced it few hours ago.

Re: [hlds] Srcds.exe undownloadable?

2005-07-10 Thread Ned

When I was writing my first response I brought up the starting server
page. And it wasn't till after the post that I noticed
my mistake with the quotes, and then looked through the page. I noticed
that username password had been added back

http://steampowered.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/steampowered.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=181

optional parameters: (only needed to access limited content)
 -username username- Steam account username
 -password password- Steam account password

I guess the .exe is considered limited content. When I first made my
server you had to have them and
I never removed them, so never noticed if they were needed again.

[hlds] Teleport Lag on Bigger Servers Since Last Update...

2005-07-10 Thread Aaron Matthews
Server Specs:
Dual 2.8 XEON w/ 2 gig ram
100 mb unmetered connection
Rates (On my current 28 man servers)
sv_maxrate 9000
sv_maxupdaterate 19
sv_minrate 0
sv_minupdaterate 5
(My rates used to be maxrate:25000, maxupdaterate:70)
Mods: Mani and Beetlefarts

I have seen this discussed in several places, but have found no real
answers. I run LANFusion, a gaming community with 6 source servers
which all fill up on a daily basis (well, before the last update at
least.) My servers, especially the larger ones (40 mans and the 32
mans) have been experiencing very heavy lag since the last update.
Its not choke or loss lag, its a teleporting type lag which makes the
game almost unplayable.

I have been doing a bunch of research and trying many different things
in the past few days to try to fix this problem, however, have found
no solution. Currently, I have 3 of my servers running with 28, 26
and 24 slots. When I keep the players below 28, the lag isn't very
apparent. However, the second the players get over 30, models start
teleporting like crazy.

I run a Dual XEON box w/ hyperthreading. Looking at my proc usage
charts, I can see that srcds is trying to run on just one of my 4
processors. I set the affinity of each process to a different proc
and that finally got them running individually. However, I can't find
a fix for this lag so that I can put some servers back up to 40 slots.
Before the update I could easily run 6 full servers with no lag.

Someone said that the last update limited the rate to 1. I turned
my maxupdaterate down significantly and noticed a drop in some of the
lag. However, they still lag up when I put them above 30 people. I
see servers out there running over 30 people without lag. Have any of
you successfully put up a server with no lag above 30 people? If so,
what are your specs and rates?

[hlds] Banlist too big? Causing crashes?

2005-07-10 Thread Andrew Armstrong
This is a multi-part message in MIME format.
--
[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
Hey,

Our banfile (banned.cfg) is approximatly 80KB - On our natural selection
servers, when the mission changes, it is very slow at loading the new mapcycle
(players sit at the map changing screen for ~20-30 secs). We have also seen
servers crashing (servers are also crashing every so often in CS Source for us,
this could be related to the banfile size as well, its also 80KB).

As soon as that file is blank, mission changes are instant - And this could be
resolving our css server crashes, although im yet to test this theory.

Anyone else experiencing problems with large ban files?

Obviously, removing some bans from the file is not a fix :)

Thanks,
- Andrew

Re: [hlds] Working update!

2005-07-10 Thread Aaron Matthews
Umm, I am not in agreement with that. My servers have been running
horribly since this update (see my previous thread named 'Horrible
teleport lag since last update'), fps has shown a tremendous drop, and
assault is pretty much unplayable with more than 30 people. I
understand that it must be difficult to make changes to a game as
complex as source. With that said, this was a very poor update and
probably could have used some more testing in my opinion.

p.s. The way characters put rifles up to their face is pretty cool.
