RE: [hlds] CS:S Bot Config Confusion

2005-07-19 Thread Micha Vermeer
Which file does the server automatically execute when te round is over?
Because everytime I load the variable bot_quota 2, the server gets 2 bots,
but when the round is over the bots dissapear again... :|
I've checked, and the bot_quota variable gets changed to 0 again on round
end (or start)

Ive added the config almost like below, but then with 2 bots instead of 8,
to my server.cfg.

//Bots will automatically leave to make room for human players. 0/1

bot_quota 8

this will add 8 bots on hard setting. it will keep 8 bots in your server
until a player connects. if 1 human connects it will drop 1 bot. and so on
and so forth.

you can also make a bot1.cfg just paste in the above info and change the
difficulty level.
or even a bot3.cfg with the difficulty set to 3.
i also use a nobot.cfg with this in it.

//General CS:Source NOBOT Config v5
echo Loading CS:Source NOBot Configuration Settings...
bot_quota 0

better yet i have them zipped and ready for download

http://www.clangenx.com/botconfigs.zip

unzip these and put them in your cfg folder
then from rcon type
rcon exec bot2.cfg
or whatever config you want.
if you want the bots in at startup add
exec bot2.cfg
to your server.cfg file.
to remove the bots
rcon exec nobot.cfg
works very well.

[hlds] Is it VAC yet?

2005-07-19 Thread Mikee

What's the actual status on Vac-2 for HL2DM, CS:S...and what about VAC-1 for
HL-DM, OP4, CS ? Is it still in beta, or are people now being officially
banned?

I'm still running the -vacbeta and sv_secure 1 switch and CVAR on my HL2DM
servers.will that change? I didn't get the last couple of HLDS patches,
since they were for CS:S

You should run the update command anyway to get the new engine binaries
(that enable VAC2 by default on Source servers). HL2DM is VAC2 protected
(as long as you have the most recent engine update).

Re: [hlds] alfred

2005-07-19 Thread David Harrison

I haven't actually checked yet, but are there log entries when a player
is dropped from the server for a VAC2 violation?

I'm guessing that when they're banned, they're banned from Steam
entirely - as opposed to just the server they were playing on?

As we have said many times before (for example:
http://www.steampowered.com/Steam/Marketing/Mar25.2005/
)
there will be no explicit announcement of VAC2 being enabled. It has
been actively banning people for a few weeks now however.

Re: [hlds] alfred

2005-07-19 Thread Mikee

Clayton,

In response to your cynical learn to read message to Xanax:

I have read every one of these email messages, and it has not at been clear
if VAC was actively banning mods other than CS:S, or what the beta mode
and launch line switch (-vacbeta) was doing vis-a-vis actual banning.

The last patch updates were specifically addressed ONLY to CS:S, and did not
make it at all clear that non-CS:S server admins should have downloaded the
binaries and that HL2-DM is now being protected by VAC2, nor that us HL2DM
admins should be removing the -vacbeta switch.

To me the -vacbeta meant that they were still collecting information and
testingnot that they started banning with servers running that switch.
In summary, I think he had a good questionat least from my perspective
as someone who has no interest in reading CS:S forums.

I'm also glad that Alfred clarified that the HL2DM admins should do a patch
updatebut I can tell you that since none of these last patches were
addressed to HL2DM (what else is new), I doubt any of them have patched.

http://www.mammothmedia.com.au/software.php might be of interest - some
software called GameMon we released recently (for Windows/Linux, source
code released under GPL) that will monitor any server that is queryable
w/ qstat and restart if the server stops querying or if the process
fails.

 Hi.

I have a problem, I cant remember the name of a piece of software
 I've used upon a time..

The program monitored your program ect. HLDS and if it closed, it
 reopened the program (hlds).

 Does anybody know the program?

Or a program doing the same thing for windows xp?

[hlds] Please Explain Latency Measurements in Counter-Strike Source

2005-07-19 Thread Whisper
--
[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
Can somebody please explain why the latency measurements for:
 The Scoreboard
Net_graph 3
Stats rcon stats
Are 3 completely different and unrelated numbers, all purporting to be
measuring latency (ping) of the players connection.
As a rule of thumb, it appears (but I could be wrong and it could just be
me) that the scoreboard ping is always the lowest,
net_graph 3 ping is twice that of the scoreboard
stats rcon stats it twice that of net_graph 3.
The only thing that makes sense is the scoreboard latency, which seems to
be for the most part, a reasonably accurate reflection of what your latency
is if you measured it with a cmdline ping in Windows.
Anyhow, if somebody could provide a accurate logical explanation as to why
these 3 latency measurements are completely different and why, it would be
much appreciated.
 Cheers

[hlds] Which cpu combo would be better for hlds/srcds?

2005-07-19 Thread Kevin
2 AMD Opteron 246s

Or

2 Intel Xeon 3.0ghz with 2Mb L2 Cache

I'm a little stuck in the middle with these two. They both have identical
specs aside from the CPUs.
