RE: [hlds] CS:S Admins, a call to arms!

2005-09-30 Thread Alexander Kobbevik

Can you introduce your self a little?
Age, location, personal status?

If you want trust, you got to give.

Another thing; you don't think hackers infiltrate such organizations
pretty quick if they actually think you will oppose a threat?
You got to have a solid backbone in such a system (aka administration
tools).
I use http://www.checkyour6.net/index.php?cat=toolssub=phpadmin to
centrally manage my admins and bans. It will also log admin activity. All
web-based. This is just a suggestion so you see what kind of tools I mean.

Good initiative, but I seen this before... its like a woman's period... it
comes and goes...

;)

best regards,
Alexander

I am not an admin, nor do I have any administration experience. However, if
you are offering an opportunity to get involved in a community, help others

I play Counter-Strike: Source mostly. If you have CS:S servers, let me know

Re: [hlds] DOD:Source Bots

2005-09-30 Thread Dagok

If nothing more, it gives people sitting on empty servers, waiting for more
players to join, something to kill in the meantime.

Also gives people without internet connections something to do. And there
are times when people may have their computer and not have internet, ie:
travelling or their ISP is down.

[hlds] Low FPS upon startup for DoD:S

2005-09-30 Thread Junior

[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
I recently purchased a new box (Dual Xeon 2.8s with 2 GB of ram) which only
runs at 60 FPS upon startup, compared to my old box (P4 3.2Ghz) ran at the
default 250 FPS when firing up DoD:S. How come my new box, which is much better
than my old, only runs at 60 fps rather than the default 250? I've been trying
to figure it out the whole day, no luck. My server drops fps hard when players
join. At about 20 players the server fps is at 10-15. I really need to figure
out how to go back to the 250 fps default without all that pingboost/media
player stuff. How would I fix it to run the default 250ish FPS for DoD:Source?
Any suggestions or fixes will be greatly appreciated! The OS for both boxes are
Windows 2003 Enterprise Server. Thanks!

that right there is asking for trouble.. just out asking.. who wants to be
admin for all these servers which are planed to become exelent servers.. thats
like asking a group of kids if they want candy, and then telling them to take
as much as they want. and thats just asking for bad admins, which will make the
community fall faster then hackers.. you have to have some sort of a community
in place already, and give admin to those who deserve it.. and start off with
admin on like one server.. and if they do well there, make it global.

but i as well am trying to start up some kind of community. i run 2 servers
right now, and im trying to start up some sort of a GSP... so maybe if you want
to conjoin a little i guess... email me off this list with your thoughts.

if you set your packet rates too low the system will display a ping in
the scoreboard of 5 or less. Generally this will lock to 5, although I
have seen non-rate played connections drop lower (although this is
clearly an incorrect value).

Actually, the default for DoD:S and HL2MP is 66Hz. CS:S uses 33Hz by
default.

RE: [hlds] DoD:Source Default tickrate ??

2005-09-30 Thread Alfred Reynolds
66Hz is needed for DoD:S to keep an accurate simulation of the physics
objects and complex player hit boxes. We tested at 33Hz but the game
didn't feel right at the slower speed (where CS:S has been optimized to
work at 33Hz with its light use of physics objects and special hitbox
design).

if you improve the source engine to the point where 100 tick will work

or is the crummy 33 tick staying forever?

Re: [hlds] Low FPS upon startup for DoD:S

Well I dunno about Tyler there, but when I left default to 300 I was only
getting 256. I raise it to 1000 and use media player and it goes to 512.

ANOTHER trick is (if you have a DOD1.3 still, or hell, even if you dont use it)
use the old fps booster from that running with that dod 1.3 console and it will
set the timer for you (that also the source server will run from).

The dod server will use less resources (memory) then media player typically.

Either way both my source and 1.3 server both run at 512+ fps typically, max
drop I've seen (under a load) was 490.

And what once used to be a no-no, I also have the servers thread priority at
high. No ill-effects, actually keeps it smoother when playing.

 make sure fps_max is 300
anything higher will cause it to fall
anything lower will cause it to seep

I recently purchased a new box (Dual Xeon 2.8s with 2 GB of ram) which
  only
runs at 60 FPS upon startup, compared to my old box (P4 3.2Ghz) ran at the
default 250 FPS when firing up DoD:S. How come my new box, which is much
better than my old, only runs at 60 fps rather than the default 250? I've
been trying to figure it out the whole day, no luck. My server drops fps
hard when players join. At about 20 players the server fps is at 10-15. I
really need to figure out how to go back to the 250 fps default without
  all
that pingboost/media player stuff. How would I fix it to run the default
250ish FPS for DoD:Source? Any suggestions or fixes will be greatly
appreciated! The OS for both boxes are Windows 2003 Enterprise Server.
  Thanks!

Re: [hlds] CVar for Ping

2005-09-30 Thread ozmosissound

[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
I've actually messed with that aspect and I dont know if you guys are talking
server-side or client-side, but when I would bring my rate values too low,
ping went straight up. Here I can use the LAN to my advantage, but being a LAN
it wasn't hard to find a value that would keep me at 0-2 ping. That number
probably was being reported correctly however.

The rule of thumb I came up with is: Once you've gone below x limit which is
determined by all your connection speeds, processor speeds, memory speeds etc,
the ping will drastically increase. Similar phenomenon to an overloaded
(maxplayers) server.

-Ozz

-- Original message --

if you set your packet rates too low the system will display a ping in
the scoreboard of 5 or less. Generally this will lock to 5, although I
have seen non-rate played connections drop lower (although this is
 clearly an incorrect value).

Assuming this is due to the number of along with the complexity of the
objects/hitboxes, what about client side?? I have experimented using media
player on my client desktop to discover my game plays much better than without.

Same holds true for the srcdsfpsbooster that is out there. I have a batch file
that I click that launches the fps booster and then DoD:S. Would tickrate
work in the client launch options Alfred?

If this is all true and what I am seeing on my client is correct, I would think
that implementing this into the client would be beneficial for everyone,
perhaps correlating server tickrate with client tickrate upon connecting to
make sure there are no side-effects of mismatched tickrates.

Has Valve already done research on this aspect or no?
