Both Eset Nod32 and Kaspersky anti virus packages detect it as a trojan.

So, for anyone who has tested it thinking it is clean, check your pc

 Dear VALVe:

With the newest patch, my dual core 2.4GHz conroe xeon can no longer
run a server on each core. Because the game still doesn't support
multithreading, this means i can't run servers at all without maxing
out a core. With 32-players on the server the FPS drops below 100 and
while it still is smooth, I'm one patch away from not being able to
run a single 32-slot server on a dual core xeon. This is absurd. When
I started this box I was averaging like 70% per core, ~80% with
sourcetv+autorecord. Now its at like 95% and my load average is
 hovering slightly above 2.0

Please, please, please work on server performance. There is no reason
this much power should be required. Simple tweaks like fixing the way
overuse of expensive kernel calls (gettimeofday, etc.), improving the
obscenely stupid frame/tick system scheduling, etc, would yield
massive benefits. If the next patch furthers the cpu usage increasing
trend, I *will* be taking my servers offline, as I'm not upgrading
(again) to keep up with bloat.

Please look at this, or risk me breaking into your offices and
 optimizing the engine by force.

I'm not so sure. We are also noticing bad performance, running ONE 24

gkrellm running in the top one to check server performance. At the exact

Normally it runs 60-70% on one core, with the other core doing ~5%. Even

resulting in both cores being used for around 5 seconds every minute or so.

sv_benchmark_force_start, when typed in the console by any player,
crashes a server. Yay.

This is a plugin:
http://www.nephyrin.net/NephCVUH_1.0.zip

The plugin adds the 'ncp' command, which makes the selected cvar a CHEAT
so load up the plugin, and add to your server.cfg:

ncp sv_benchmark_force_start

That should be it. Let me know if you have any problems.

sv_benchmark_force_start, when typed in the console by any player,
 crashes a server. Yay.

 This is a plugin:
 http://www.nephyrin.net/NephCVUH_1.0.zip

The plugin adds the 'ncp' command, which makes the selected cvar a CHEAT
so load up the plugin, and add to your server.cfg:

 ncp sv_benchmark_force_start

That should be it. Let me know if you have any problems.

have, since the update, got the error below. Now, we have never has a
problem with this server instance before (could be corrupted file?)

application error from event log...

Dr Watson error reported after the above error in the event log..
/The application, c:\servers\tf\orangebox\srcds.exe, generated an
application error. The error occured on 04/30/2008 @ 15:37:23.578
The exception generated was c005 at address 19E803C6

i would look at the mdmp as i think from reading around what i am

Re: [hlds] tf_weapon_criticals 0 affecting the KritzKrieg?

2008-04-30 Thread AnAkIn .
It doesn't.

tf_weapon_criticals have exceptions, like the Sniper headshots for example.
Those are still criticals even if you disable it.

The main problem with criticals that people had with is the randomness, so
this cvar disable it. 100% crit is not random.

But this will probably be fixed in the next update...

2008/4/30 John McBroom [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

Well considering that that command is set if the server owner wants no
criticals at all, it makes perfect sense for the kritzkrieg not to
 work...

 2008/4/30 AnAkIn . [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
  Hello

It seems that tf_weapon_criticals 0 also disable the critical hits for
 the
KritzKrieg, so it has no effect at all. Can anyone confirm this?

Is there a new SDK update coming out? I can't seem to find the
tf_gamerules entity inside the FGD.

Jason Ruymen wrote:

 For mapmakers:
  - Mapmakers can now directly place the tf_gamerules entity into their
map. Fixes Hammer thinking the inputs to it are broken.
  - Mapmakers can now place Engineer buildings directly into a map, with
an option for them to be invulnerable.
  - Added AddRedTeamScore and AddBlueTeamScore inputs to
 tf_gamerules.
  - Added SetRequiredObserverTarget input to tf_gamerules. Force
spectators to use the specified viewpoint.

Not yet, but hopefully they will remove the achievements from them. If
Valve tracks a timestamp for each achievement that should be easy,
because all would be applied in the same moment.

No, the achievement fixes are client side (and steam backend server

can choose to not install them (though you are strongly encouraged to as

Both Eset Nod32 and Kaspersky anti virus packages detect it as a trojan.

So, for anyone who has tested it thinking it is clean, check your pc
again, your current av program may have missed it.

You can use the nod32 scanner on-line at www.eset.com

Re: [hlds] Remote reboot/Server Reset

2008-04-30 Thread Rick Payton
The makers of Firedaemon put out a web based service controller for
Windows a year or 2 ago, I believe it was called Paneldaemon.

Free, and web based. Not sure of its final state and how secure it is,
but something to look at. I think they have a professional product that
does something similar as well.

Ahh, Firedaemon Trinity, here's the quote from their product page:
FireDaemon Trinity has all the features of Pro but also allows you to
manage Windows services on your local machine, network or across the
Internet. Product page:
http://www.firedaemon.com/firedaemon-trinity.php

$69, should be a small enough cost to get people to donate to?

FWIW I think ServerDoc may have something similar?

2008-04-30 Thread Rick Payton
Apparently, PanelDaemon has it's own homepage now, here:
http://www.paneldaemon.com/

Again, I haven't used it since early 2006 I think (or late 2005?) so I
have no idea how secure it is, but there you go.

Requires IIS to be installed though (which is a deal breaker for most
folks).

The makers of Firedaemon put out a web based service controller for
Windows a year or 2 ago, I believe it was called Paneldaemon. Free, and
web based. Not sure of its final state and how secure it is, but something
to look at. I think they have a professional product that does something
similar as well. Ahh, Firedaemon Trinity, here's the quote from their
product page: FireDaemon Trinity has all the features of Pro but also
allows you to manage Windows services on your local machine, network or
 across the Internet. Product page:
 http://www.firedaemon.com/firedaemon-trinity.php $69, should be a small
enough cost to get people to donate to? FWIW I think ServerDoc may
have something similar? Rick Payton, I.T. Manager Morikawa Associates,

Allows you to start, stop, set affinity and priority. Can also do steam

they crash or stop responding to network queries, and a lot more. I also
author the SourceRSC/CSRSC fast downloads management tools, incase you've

Re: [hlds] Feedback about this TF2 update

2008-04-30 Thread James McKenna
I'm really against the achievement unlocks. I know the novelty will die off
and people will go back to balancing the classes, but once the next one is
released, we'll have to endure servers of one type of class.

It was really annoying watching 9 medics on one team ubering eachother and
not helping with the gameplay. The game was miserable.

I really think they should have released unlocks for one of the three class
types to balance the spamming. Releasing upgrades for one class breaks the
game for the first week or so while people try and unlock everything. Also,
without third party tools, there's no ability to limit classes. That would
have fixed this issue as well.

[hlds] HldsSlowdateTool

2008-04-30 Thread Mike Stiehm
Is it just me or is the HldsUpdateTool running slow for anyone else?
Last time I updated(not yesterday) i could pull 50meg no problem.
Yesterday it took me hours to pull the update and 15 min into it
today and it has not even moved!! Tested on 2 networks and 2 systems
with the same outcome. Valve what's the deal? You out
the DS3 and opt for a 28.8 modem connection?

Servers are overloaded. Its not like the servers are in a state of the art data

A DS3 isn't that fast (45mbit). You'd think they went to a DS3 from an OC12 or
something :P
