Sounds like Valve decided get rid of SourceTV instead of finishing it

Subject: [hlds_linux] Left 4 Dead 2 server pre-load availability?

I'm wondering when we will be able to start pre-loading the l4d2 linux
server? If I'm not mistaken, the demo is being released tomorrow
(Tuesday, the 27th). Is there going to be a demo server released with
this (as there was with the first l4d)?

Also, is there a place where we can view a changelog for server-side
configs or are we basically going to be able to use pretty much the same
configs for l4d2?

We are getting close to the release at this point and I would like to do
some prep so I can have servers up and running for the release and
currently, I've not really seen anything on the mailing list about it.
Is there a website with details I'm not aware of?

Thanks,

Jay

Just for servers, you can use this:

If you want to run Steam games, you have to use wine or similar.

I've run windows hlds.exe under Linux, and it actually runs quite well. It
uses less cpu then the native hlds binaries do. This isn't because wine is
so great, it's because the hlds linux binaries haven't been optimized for
linux, and in general are quite inefficient.

There will probalby never be a Linux Steam client. The games you get from
Steam don't have Linux versions, so it would be a waste of Valve's time to
make a Linux steam client.

Steam runs fine under Wine, but most of the games you get from steam *don't*
run fine under wine. Been there, done that. It's a dead end path,
unfortunately. Game makes just don't want to bother porting their games to
Linux.

It was Fedora, and I don't recall which version of Wine it was at the
time. There was one problem where players would get stuck to
displacements, but other then that it worked great. Right now I'm
running a Synergy server on Fedora 11 and Wine 1.1.29 without problems.

And - I would note I have been on the HLDS_** lists for a decade. 99%

added with strange ports (27009, 27012, 27013, ...)

As you've already seen, the dedicated server files for the Left 4 Dead 2

doing some final checks for the client, but that should be going live

I find it somewhat comical that people on the Steam forums don't believe
this email actually went out. They all claim it's a fake, even with

Re: [hlds_linux] Netcon for L4D2 demo server forks

2009-10-27 Thread Chris Green
I don't get that result.. I started up with -fork 10 +map c5m1_waterfront
-netconport 90##:

- typing broadcast map c5m1_waterfront into the console I launched from
worked (note that this didn't work in l4d1 - I added code to accept commands
from the console in fork mode this time).
- connecting to port 9000 and typing status gave me the status of all 10
instances.
- connecting to port 9001 and typing status gave me the status of instance #1.

Is anyone else seeing the behavior david describes?

Re: [hlds_linux] Netcon for L4D2 demo server forks

2009-10-27 Thread Nick Turner
I'm guessing he doesn't have the +map command in his command line.

I've got 3 machines running a whole mess of forks, all responding.

Subject: [hlds_linux] Netcon for L4D2 demo server forks

Hello,

I got the L4D2 demo server up with six forks, and I am able to use the master
console just fine, but when I telnet to the netcon ports of the forks I am not
able to do anything. I can type but I get no responses. Are the forked
servers actually running?
