Re: [hlds_linux] Mysterious server crash since latest TF2 update

2011-11-04 Thread ics
Thanks for the tip. It indeed was something in the cfg dir. I started
isolating the issue and found out that it was autoexec.cfg containing
cvar randommap which caused server to crash. It works fine while put in
server console (picks random map) but it seems that it cannot be in
autoexec.cfg no longer.

This whole issue blew my brains out too.

ics I just got my server back up and running by reinstalling everything. I
then copied over addons/ cfg/ and maps/ but here's the kicker - now it
doesn't start up!
I quickly undid this and found out of all things my /cfg/ folder was the
problem. It wasn't anything in my server.cfg or replay.cfg files, and it
wasn't any *.cfg at all.

The only files that weren't .cfgs in there was settings_default.scr,
user_default.scr, and valve.rc. You could try just removing these files and
see if that helps. This was driving me nuts and hopefully it's behind me.

Also I never got -verify_all to work, does it not work with the steam
binary?

-verify_all doesn't verify anything (unless it does this without any
indication that it is) and I crash on boot, I have no addons folder and
this is the first update I've ever had any issues with recieving.

I don't know, the way i would interpret plugins removed is you
cleared

Try renaming addons to addons1 and try starting the server. I

So first i removed plugins completely with no effect. Then I tried

tried
fresh install, only to find out that it didn't work either. I

No dumps are uploaded (fails) so if Fletcher or someone else

warns
about core difference so i removed core file from /orangebox

but
it still didn't help.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Unless they require the server to be linked to an account with admin

the infrastructure is practically there already.

Just what I was about to suggest, that more or less would make abusing
that system impossible.

[hlds_linux] Dota 2 Dedicated Servers

Now when Valve is kicking it up a notch with the Dota 2 beta, are there any
plans to release the server binaries and let us test them? Or will Dota 2,
like HoN and LoL, have everything hosted by Valve?

I haven't read anything about that either yet, it'd be quite
interesting to get a few information on the whole server story.

I think Valve is running all the servers for Dota 2 but who knows for sure.
That would be a first. It doesn't sound like the type of game that would
benefit from community hosted servers like TF2.

Re: [hlds_linux] Dota 2 Dedicated Servers

2011-11-04 Thread Matthew Attaway
The last article I read on it made it sound like the ELO based matching
would only occur on Valve servers, but that the community could provide
servers to play on as well. Given all the work they've put into the
registered servers I imagine that will play a part with Dota2 server
hosting.

Cheers,
Matt

Re: [hlds_linux] Dota 2 Dedicated Servers

2011-11-04 Thread Sir Jake

This would be nice as for Dota I used to run a few bots that would host the
games for friends and clan members which worked out very well even more so for
all the game types other than dota which makes me wonder if Valve is going to
have it just Dota or custom mods as well if custom mods are in it that would be
great.

We all know how well the Match making sends you to servers in locations not
always great for players.
