Engine increase on the 2097

2012-05-04 Thread Lopez, Sharon
We are turning on 1 engine this weekend to one of our processors; we are
going from a 2097-604 to a 2097-605. Our IBM CE says that it will not
need a Power-on-Reset (POR). We are not changing the weights for the
lpars within the HMC; we are leaving them as is. How can we verify that
the actual physical engine has been turned on? Is there a MVS display
that will show this or somewhere within the HMC? Thanks.

Re: Acceptable paging

2012-02-08 Thread Lopez, Sharon
We have a z/10 and this test lpar had 11G of real memory. IBM is loaning us
16G of real memory so now we have 27G of real memory. We had 3 mod-9 page
datasets and after message broker started we had to add 4 additional mod-9 page
datasets. We do have IMS, CICS, and DB2 running on this system. Our tuning
guy retired last year and none of us left understand how this is supposed to
work. Thanks.

Could you describe your environment a little?

CPU(s) (z10, z9 , etc)
Amount of dasd space allocated to Page Datasets? Number of Page Datasets
Real Memory available
Number of MQ and Brokers?
Connection types (IMS, CICS, Distributed systems)

Many elements can play into tuning a system. This will help in answering
the question.

Now, when you ask about acceptable paging in relationship to MQ, is anything
else in play? CICS, IMS, DB2, heavy batch, etc. or is MQ the only thing
running on that system?

Or perhaps I misunderstood your acceptable paging in relationship to MQ.

Thanks

In addition to Hal's reply:

From QuickRef and the manual:

This message can indicate a temporary peak in application activity on the
primary storage control, possibly as a result of volume synchronization or
resynchronization activity on that storage control. This message can be
repeated periodically until the condition is relieved, as indicated by the
ANTX8118I message.

System Programmer Response: This message reports a condition, but does not
indicate an error. If the delay condition continues for a long period of time,
the application can be impacted if primary storage control cache capability is
exceeded. When this message states that the primary rate exceeds the specified
function, ensure that the DASD fast write option is on for the volumes
associated with the function. If volume synchronization or resynchronization
activity is present on any primary storage control, you can want to issue an
XSUSPEND command to suspend the volume pairs that are being added until the
application update rate on the primary storage
controls has returned to normal.

XRC

2010-04-05 Thread Lopez, Sharon
We are getting cache spikes (100%) while doing a flashcopy from secondary to
tertiary dasd (in the same frame) in our XRC environment. The spikes cause a
suspension of the mirror. Hitachi says they don't see anything unusual, IBM
says the backup is on the secondary controllers and the copy task runs twice as
long on the Hitach (USP-V) as they would expect. Does anyone have any
experience with XRC on Hitachi that might benefit us? Our primary is a
USP-1100 and the secondary/tertiary is USP-V.

Insert tapes in a TS3500 without a barcode

2009-03-06 Thread Lopez, Sharon
We are trying to insert a server/pak tape 3592 into our TS3500 library, and the
accessor is picking it up without a barcode. We followed the manual (redbook),
and the accessor should not pick it up. Do we need to set something in the
box? Thank you.

Inserting cartridges without a barcode label
You might receive cartridges from a software vendor, another company, or even
from IBM
that have standard label (SL) formats but no barcode labels. This special
situation needs a
particular procedure. The following example describes the insertion of a
cartridge with an SL
of YX0100:
1. First, you must verify that this VOLSER is not defined within a VOLSER range
in the
TS3500.
2. Insert the cartridge in the entry station. The accessor will not pick the
cartridge because of
the missing barcode.
3. Use your Web specialist function to select Manage Cartridges → I/O Station.
You will see only one cartridge with unknown status.
4. Select the cartridge and select Fix Unknown Volume Serial.
5. Enter VOLSER=YX0100 and the type (JA, JJ, and so forth).

Lizette

Lizette,

You might consider using a Data class that has the following attributes:

Space Constraint Relief . . . : YES
  Reduce Space Up To (%) . . : 30
  Dynamic Volume Count . . . : 9

Are there any issues with DB2 V8, Platinum and z/OS V1.9?

Our DBA group is indicating that since the z/OS V1.9 operating system went in,
the Platinum loads have failed on space issues.

What they are seeing are:

IGD17226I THERE IS AN INSUFFICIENT NUMBER OF VOLUMES IN THE ELIGIBLE

My recommendation is to add more asterisks to the VOLUME statement. We have
at least 6 volumes that can handle the primary allocation. And if I
calculated it correctly it is 1650 Cylinders Primary and 500 cylinders
secondary. What I believe to be happening is that due to the one asterisk is
causing the failure and if it had more it might make it.

My questions:

1) Can you alter the define in Platinum to use more asterisks?
2) Is there a change in z/OS V1.9 that makes storage allocation more
difficult with DFSMS? Any ACS or other changes needed to alter the behavior?

VTS tapes at DR

2008-05-19 Thread Lopez, Sharon
We are mirroring our IBM VTS at our disaster recovery site. What do most
people use in order to make the volumes private during a disaster recovery test?

Stand-alone

2008-04-23 Thread Lopez, Sharon
We are at our new datacenter and we are trying to perform stand-alone ICKDSF,
and DFDSS from an IBM Tape Library. We do not have any consoles yet and we are
trying to do this from the HMC. ICKDSF is the first file and it works
finethe second file is DFDSS and it will load successfully but we are not
able to get a console...we get MESSAGE INTERFACE UNAVAILABLE. We were able to
do this process at our original datacenter, but we had a console. Has anyone
encountered this same situation using HMC?
