Catalog Question

2012-04-30 Thread Sabo, Frank
Hello everyone,

I just started receiving the following message on a catalog
IEC361I CATALOG CATLOG.MVS.VGEM913 (DATA) HAS REACHED 82% OF THE MAXIMUM EXTENTS

The messages are coming out about twice a month.

I am running z/OS 1.9

Can anyone tell me, what is the proper way to go about expanding the catalog.
I started looking on the internet but unable to find out exactly how to go
about it.

Thanks for any help that I can get.

RRS Installaion Question

2011-05-22 Thread Sabo, Frank
Hello everyone,
I need to install RRS onto my LPARS however in doing the defines for the RRS
datasets I ran out of space in the system logger datasets. My question if I
switch over to the secondary logger dataset and then delete and redefine the
primary logger dataset and then switch back to the primary new logger dataset,
will it have any effect on the CICS regions that currently executing on the
various LPARS since they are also defined into the primary and secondary logger
datasets? Or do I have to do the switch when the CICS regions are not up and
processing

they show up a blank. In SMS 10 3 menu.

If possible I would like to have a conversation with someone as to what I am

FTP and systems PING question.

2010-05-13 Thread Sabo, Frank
FTP and systems PING question.

Environment:

We have Z9 J01 with one processor with three LPARS, production, test and tech,
all three shares one OSA adapter. The systems are running z/OS 1.9.
Looking at my monitor's, the production lpar is only 29.5% busy while the test
lpar is 2.2% the tech lpar does not come into play since it my sand box. IO
and paging are not very heavy at the time.

I talked with network personnel and the see not issues on the network at the
time failure.

Problem:

We have six UNIX boxes that all issue a ping command to the mainframe at the
same time before starting the FTP process. Five pings are directed to the
production LPAR and one box is directed to the test LPAR. The all five ping's
failed pointing to the production side but the test completed successfully. I
don't see any TCPIP errors on either LPAR. I can not explain the difference
between the two LPARS why one works and the other one fails.

We currently do this process about 1500 times a day if not more. The process
works fine most of the time but every once in a while it fails.
Not sure where to look for the problem the monitors and logs don't show
anything that I can see.

Any help would be appreciated.

Tape Libraries

2008-09-19 Thread Sabo, Frank
Today we ate currently using a Magstar tape library with B1 drives and a VTS to
do our tape processing. Management wants to get rid to the Magstar and VTS and
wants go to some other solution due to the high maintenance cost. On the open
systems side of the house are currently using two CDL libraries systems from
EMC and are getting two LTO systems in.

EMC has products known as a MDL for the z/OS environment and we are currently
looking at it.

These are my questions.

What are other people using as a tape solution at the various datacenters?

Has anyone connected to or heard of anyone using any type of LTO units for the
mainframe environment? If so what are they?

Is anyone today using the EMC MDL solution?

Thanks for you help.

Stupid Question of the day.

2008-06-20 Thread Sabo, Frank
I am going to do a migration from OS/390 2.10 to zOS 1.9. The mainframe was
supposed to go away six years ago, however some of the applications have been
migrated off, but other still remain. Change in management decision to keep the
mainframe as a viable platform and upgrade it with new hardware and software.
However that is not my question, we run a shared JES2 spool between multiple
LPARS a programmer wants to logon to TSO several times using the same user id.
Today we can not do it , you get a jcl error. Has this changed with the newer
releases of the operating systems? I thought I would ask before I started
digging into it.

Thanks for any help.

Processor Upgrade Question

2007-11-27 Thread Sabo, Frank
Good Morning everyone, in July of this year, I asked a question swapping out
our 7060 H75 process and getting a new Z systems processor. Some one at that
time gave me a name of the company that they deal with where you can purchase
the processor from them plus they will do the upgrade of the software and then
ship the system to you. I misplaced the name of the company and the email
address. If you know what it is they please let me know.

Thanks for your help.

Ever hear of an IFL?

They were add-ons that came out AFTER the original H30, H50, and H70.
Now what that did to the model number is beyond me, because I never
worked with those, or had customers that wanted them.

And I just realized in an earlier post I was having a typical Monday and
was thinking of the entry system at about 60MIPS. I'm expecting an email
from a former customer any moment...

Upgrading the processor

2007-07-30 Thread Sabo, Frank
Hello everyone,

I have a question to ask of the group.

I currently have an IBM7060 H75 processor running OS 390 2.10. We are
currently going into our sixth year of a two year phase out of the
mainframe.
Since everything is non supported management is looking into upgrading
the processor to a 2096 R07 (F02) box and operating system to the latest
ZOS version, since it now looks like it would be another two to three
years before can be converted off. If I can come up with a list of
jufitications for upgrading the processor and operating system. The
system then might be taken off the endangered species list.

1. SOX hardware and software compliance.
2. All software will be vendor supported.
3. Installation of ZVM which would allow us to run LINUX on
the box.
4. All new applications to be considered to on the
platform.

Thanks for any information that I can get.

Question JQES utilization

2006-11-03 Thread Sabo, Frank
We frequently receive the $HASP050 JQES shortage message.

*$HASP050 JES2 RESOURCE SHORTAGE OF,JQES,- 90% UTILIZATION REACHED

It starts out at 85% and goes up to as high as 92% before going back
down.

I have done some reading and searching on the subject and found that
following commands

The JES2 manual talks about the following

$D OUTDEF

$HASP836 OUTDEF 366
$HASP836 OUTDEF  BRODCAST=NO,COPIES=255,DMNDSET=NO,JOENUM=4,
$HASP836 JOEFREE=11758,JOEWARN=85,OUTTIME=CREATE,
$HASP836 PRTYLOW=0,PRTYHIGH=255,PRTYOUT=NO,PRYORATE=0,
$HASP836 SEGLIM=100,STDFORM=STD,USERSET=NO

The Archives of IBM-MAIN@BAMA.UA.EDU refers to the following command

$DJOBDEF
$D JOBDEF
$HASP835 JOBDEF 368
$HASP835 JOBDEF  ACCTFLD=OPTIONAL,CNVT_ENQ=FAIL,JCLERR=NO,
$HASP835 JNUMBASE=7765,JNUMFREE=4958,JNUMWARN=85,
$HASP835 JOBFREE=2958,JOBNUM=28000,JOBWARN=85,
$HASP835 PRTYHIGH=10,PRTYJECL=YES,PRTYJOB=NO,PRTYLOW=5,
$HASP835 PRTYRATE=96,RANGE=(1,3),RASSIGN=YES,
$HASP835 DUPL_JOB=DELAY

We are currently running OS/390 R.2.10 shared JES2, yes I know I am not
supported.
The doc states, that to back out this change requires a cold start of
JES2. Therefore, I am trying to make sure that by increasing JOBNUM
(JQES) does not have any effect on the systems.

My question is this which parameter really pertains to the number of
JQES in the systems?

Do I need to do anyting else with JES2?

$T JOBDEF, JOBNUM=n

Or

$T OUTDEF, , JOBNUM=n

Thanks for any help I can get.

$HASP893 STATUS=ACTIVE,COMMAND=(FORMAT)

2006-10-09 Thread Sabo, Frank
Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding JES2 and spool packs. This morning when I
was reviewing spool space because it was filling up over the weekend. I
received the following back on the console when doing a $D SPOOL
command.  I am currently running OS/390 R2.10

$D SPOOL
$HASP893 VOLUME(SPL001)  STATUS=ACTIVE,PERCENT=69
$HASP893 VOLUME(SPL002)  STATUS=ACTIVE,PERCENT=68
$HASP893 VOLUME(SPL003)  STATUS=ACTIVE,PERCENT=68
$HASP893 VOLUME(SPL004)  STATUS=ACTIVE,PERCENT=68
$HASP893 VOLUME(SPL005) 173
$HASP893 VOLUME(SPL005)  STATUS=ACTIVE,COMMAND=(FORMAT),
$HASP893 PERCENT=68
$HASP893 VOLUME(SPL006)  STATUS=ACTIVE,PERCENT=69
$HASP893 VOLUME(SPL008)  STATUS=ACTIVE,PERCENT=68
$HASP893 VOLUME(SPL007)  STATUS=ACTIVE,PERCENT=68
$HASP646 68.8112 PERCENT SPOOL UTILIZATION

My question is with SPL005 it states that it is active and awaiting a
FORMAT command,
Do I drain the volume and the pack and it will format itself or is there
something else that needs to be done.

I have looked back over the past SYSLOG and it has apparently been that
way for sometime, not sure how it got that way.

Thanks for any help.

Re: Dataset copy error with FDR.

2006-06-20 Thread Sabo, Frank
RACF Question.

If your RACF Dataset Profile is AUL1$.* then it will only protect
datasets name with only one additional qualifier such as AUL1$.ACSASXP1,
it does not allow multiple dataset qualifiers such as
AUL1$.SAS.FORMATS. You will need to change the profile in RACF to
AUL1$.** to allow access to multiple dataset qualifiers names.

Subject: Dataset copy error with FDR.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

My issue is that I have a user running an FDRCOPY job as follows.

//STEP1EXEC PGM=FDRCOPY
//SYSPRINT DD  SYSOUT=*
//SYSUDUMP DD  SYSOUT=*
//SYSINDD  *
COPY   TYPE=DSF,
   DSNENQ=NONE
SELECT CATDSN=AUL1.SAS.FORMATS,
   NEWNAME=AUL1$.SAS.FORMATS
SELECT CATDSN=AUL1.VSAMPSP1,
   NEWNAME=AUL1$.VSAMPSP1
SELECT CATDSN=AUL1.SAS.MACROS,
   NEWNAME=AUL1$.SAS.MACROS
/*

The job is failing with the following RACF errors:

ICH408I USER(TSOSDB  ) GROUP(TSOUSR  ) NAME()  176
  AUL1$.SAS.FORMATS CL(DATASET ) VOL(CLN007)
  DEFINE - INSUFFICIENT AUTHORITY
ICH408I USER(TSOSDB  ) GROUP(TSOUSR  ) NAME( )  178
  AUL1$.SAS.MACROS CL(DATASET ) VOL(CLN010)
  DEFINE - INSUFFICIENT AUTHORITY
ICH408I USER(TSOSDB  ) GROUP(TSOUSR  ) NAME( )  179
  AUL1$.VSAMPSP1 CL(DATASET ) VOL(CLN008)
  DEFINE - INSUFFICIENT AUTHORITY
IEF450I TSOSDBC STEP1 - ABEND=S000 U0888 REASON=  182
TIME=14.46.05

The user has run this job successfully with the following dataset names:
SELECT CATDSN=AUL1.ACSASXP1,
   NEWNAME=AUL1$.ACSASXP1
SELECT CATDSN=AUL1.ACTUAXP1,
   NEWNAME=AUL1$.ACTUAXP1

There is a RACF profile AUL1$.* that is protecting these datasets and
the
user has Alter to that profile, I even tried making the profile
UACC(ALTER)
to see if we would get a different result. Is there anything special
about
have a $ in the RACF profile name?

There is something unique about these dataset names, and I am not sure
what
it is. There is not a more specific profile, this is the profile
protecting
these datsets.

Command ===> LD DA('AUL1$.SAS.MACROS') G ALL
INFORMATION FOR DATASET AUL1$.* (G)

YOUR ACCESS CREATION GROUP DATASET TYPE
---  --
ALTERTSOUSR NON-VSAM

I don't see that we are doing anything special in the ACS routines which

would change the way these datasets are handled. In addition I can
allocate
these datasets from 3.2 in ISPF, but when I run the FDRCOPY job I get
the
RACF DEFINE error listed above.

What am I missing? Any suggestions on where else to look?

The FDR Error messages for the job are: The dataset is going from
Non-managed to SMS managed dasd.

Putty connection to mainframe

2006-03-23 Thread Sabo, Frank
Hello everyone.

I have been requested by my management to use PUTTY as a 3270 emulator
on the mainframe instead of rumba as a remote connection over the web
access.

Does anyone out there using PUTTY to access the mainframe, if so, how?
I did use putty to access the test LINUX LPAR that I have up and
running. So far I have only been able to connect to TSO and only as a
single command line, not any of the ISPF panels. I would appreciate any
help I can get.

Thanks

TCPXLBIN Table

2005-10-20 Thread Sabo, Frank
We are currently running OS/390 2.10.
We have a UNIX system that needs to do a FTP process over to the
Mainframe, to retrieve the data back onto the UNIX server. But the data
has to run through a conversions process to change the HEX characters BA
and BB to ASCII 5B and 5D respectfully. I went though and did the
convxlat DWFTP.FTP.SEZATCPX(DWHTABLE)' 'DWFTP.FTP.TCPXLBIN' process and
created a new translation table. I only want to use this table for this
user.

If we put the command SITE SBD='DWFTP.FTP.TCPXLBIN' in the UNIX FTP
command stream and he data conversion works properly. However the UNIX
admin has an FTP script which does FTP's to multiple platforms with the
user id of DWFTP. He does not want to have inserted the site command for
all the other systems.

Is there a way to have MVS systems to automatically use the conversion
table for only this user id when they do and FTP process? I have read
the manual and have tried several different ways, but none seem to work.
I put a DD card //SYSDTSX in the logon proc for the user, but that seems
to use the standard conversion table.

I created the dataset with the user high level qualifier again that
still uses the standard conversion table.

I would appreciate any help that I can get.

Thanks
