Re: DASD Only Plex

If the CHPIDs are shared, except for CTC CUs and Devices, why add new
CUs and Devices? Via the HCD panels you should be able to get by with
the following: Define, modify, or view configuration data, Processors,
Work with partitions, Add, Enter Partition name, etc. and Update CHPID
Access and Candidate Lists.

Subject: DASD Only Plex

The configuration we are using is Couple Datasets, no coupling facility,

hence DASD only. The CTC's are SCTC's. We have gone over the CTC
definitions and are about to again. The CHP's used are all from the
original sysplex definition. New controllers and devices were added for
the
new LPAR. The new devices seem to be fine on 5 of the original 6 LPARs
(as
diplayed with a D M=CHP(xx) command). The HCD definitions for the new
devices were copied from an existing device / controller. Any help would
be
appreciated.

This sounds like you hit the limit of logical paths the the Dasd control
unit supports. I would check with your disk vendor to see what that limit
is. You can verify that this is the problem by varying off 1 of the paths
from a working system and then varying on the path from the failing system.
If this works than for sure that is the problem.

I have worked with SYSPLEX since October 1994, and I have never heard of the
term DASD Only PLEX!

What do you mean by that?

I do not really understand the question, but it sounds like the new
system should have identical access to the channels, etc. I would
research the Channel Path Access/Candidate Lists for any problems. You
should be able to obtain a Channel Path Summary Report by selecting the
following from the HCD panels: Print or compare configuration data,
Print configuration reports, CSS report and CSS summary reports. Be
aware devices can also have Candidate Lists.

We have a 6 LPAR DASD only sysplex. We need to add a new LPAR to the

connect to 5 of the 6 LPARs, 1 LPAR comes up as Path not operational.
Does
anyone have some insight as to what I need to look at? Thanks in

I must confess I don't quite understand your situation. Are you adding
an additional LPAR to the configuration or are you adding additional
disk to each of the current LPARs in the configuration? Which (or both)
is it?

What is a DASD-only sysplex? Do you mean a base sysplex i.e., one
without a CF that uses XCF over CTCs?
