Masking SMF data internally

2024-01-20 Thread Jake Anderson
Hello

We have a requirement of sharing our SMF data to vendor for a sizing
operation of our hardware connected to our mainframe

Our organization has a policy of masking the critical values before sharing
it. I see SMF datasets are are editable from ISPF.

Is there a way or someone has undergone this exercise of masking the
confidential values inside SMF output Dataset?

Please advise

Hello

I have activated the COD in our DR site for one of our production LPAR. I
understand every temporary COD license is valid for 10 days.

Post the expiration Can I activate the new COD license while the LPAR is up

Post the mod conversion before initializing are there any other steps needs

Re: Strange FTP behavior

2022-09-18 Thread Jake Anderson
Hi

Something I didn't include in my original post

The Linux path from where the file is being GET to mainframe. The Linux
path is mounted to a windows server, so the file is available in windows
but mapped to LINUX

So as a test I copied the file to Linux local disk and tried ftp and the
get operation works.

The FTP JCL is spawned by webserver which inturn runs batch to do GET

Earlier

Strange thing is that it works perfectly from submitting the batch natively
within tso but when it is spawned by webserver it fails

The webserver has a started task in mainframe and I don't see any error in
it's log

While doing GET there is no data transfer but it destroys the local file in
windows without any data transfer

Strange FTP behavior

2022-09-17 Thread Jake Anderson
Hello

Cross posted

I was able to create the user with RESTRICTED attribute

I have given a surrogate access to a STC owner is to the ID which I created
with RESTRICTED attribute

Here when we submit job with USER=EXTBATCH
It internally does a FTP to a Linux server. For connecting the Linux using
FTP we are using ID created in Linux which is wmMF01

The FTP logon is successful but when it tries to do a get operation on an
existing file in Linux to mainframe then it doesn't transfer instead it
gives zero bytes transferred

To isolate the issue I tried to run the same batch using my own Mainframe
ID and wmMF01 but I was able to transfer the ID fron Linux to mainframe
without any problem.

Unfortunately this is not even throwing any error message to debug and I
know that this is due to the RESTRICTED ATTRIBUTE

There were some more case studies I did

1 ) When I submit the JCL with USER=EXTBATCH the transfer works
perfectly fine

I did enable FTP DEBUG ALL but no message is displayed about zero bytes
getting transferred

I hope I am missing some BPX racf profile for which the started task owner
is supposed to be permitted and I am not sure what BPX profile will allow
the FTP to take place

EXTBATCH has OMVS segment, Started task owner too has OMVS segment and it's
default groups too have GID

Could someone please point to a right direction on troubleshooting this in
detail

So I did wrap plug test to ensure the ports were fine and they were good

So after finally replacing the 10g SFP with 1G SFP from z14 fixed this
issue. Unfortunately the auto negotiate didn't helped.

Re: Automatic ftp process

2022-08-16 Thread Jake Anderson
It's basically we run a non IBM Database in mainframe

The user(management) have a list of employees code where they want to know
some of their personal data of employees from mainframe Database.

So here management or the requestor doesn't have mainframe access and we as
mainframer will pick the list from repository from where they save and we
fetch all the data from Mainframe database and save it back to the same
repository.

Automatic ftp process

2022-08-16 Thread Jake Anderson
Hi

We have requirement whenever someone saves a record(non-mainframe user) in
Linux. We automatically wants to get those record and ftp to mainframe and
and pull all details from database then save it back to the same location
where the user saves his Initial record.

Has anyone tried this similar exercise and would like to share your
experience or provide me some pointers on where I can start this with

Re: LINK monitor status for OSA HMC

2022-08-15 Thread Jake Anderson
Hi

The OSA port is connected with working cable LC-LC MM fibre to the 1g
switch. From the Cisco switch it has been set as auto negotiate to yes.

Still from the mainframe the port doesn't show up the LED indication at
all. I tried toggling standby/online but still no luck. Ran port
diagnostics too with no error.

Not sure where to look. Has anyone faced a similar issue and have any idea
on what needs to be done?

Hello

I apologize for my ignorance.

I was looking for the status of one of our OSA card under OSA advanced
facilities under HMC. For one of their PCHPID belonging to OSA shows the
port status as 'LINK MONITOR'

When I checked with my network team if their switch sees the MAC address of
my OSA port but they don't see it.

Old volumes DFHSM WTOR

2022-05-07 Thread Jake Anderson
Hello Group

We used to have a volume named OSSYB1 in ARCMDxx which I have removed
already and DFHSM comes up successfully. After sometime DFHSM complains
that the volume OSSYB1 is offline and it throws a WTOR to reply with a
valid device number to make it online.

Not sure why DFHSM doesn't say anything while initialization but looks for
the volume after sometime which is not part of ARCMDxx anymore.

Is there any places that I need to be looking at ?

Re: [MVS-OE] Passwordless login omvs

2022-03-13 Thread Jake Anderson
I was able to copy it

We have two environment LPAR1 and LPAR2

Certificate based SSH login is successful on LPAR2 but for LPAR1 It asks
for password.

I did enabled -VV with SSH login to check in debug mode but I don't see any
error or any reason why it expects password even though the same
certificate works fine with other LPAR2.

SSHD configuration are same on both the LPARS. Is there any places that I
need to be looking for ?

Re: Passwordless login omvs

Hello Ed

I generated the .pub certificate from the both the end but still when I do
SSH from CentOS to OMVS it asks for a password. OMVS is running the SSHD
task.

The certificate I have kept in my home directory of omvs. So from CENTOS I
do SSH certificate_path Mainframeuser@ZOS

still it asks for password. Is there any parameter within SSHD_CONFIG had

Cloning root zfs to other lpar

Hello Group

I am trying to move maintenance root zfs which is 5000 cylinder in size.
The environment what we have is two monoplex. I tried doing dump the root

What's the best way to clone a zfs from one monoplex environment to another

z/OS 2.4 Console outstanding message error

2021-11-25 Thread Jake Anderson
Hello

Recently I upgraded the z/OS 2.2 to 2.4 Post that I am receiving the below
message while I am trying to initialise a dasd volume using ICKDSF, Though
the number 38 shows as the WTOR in Job log to initialise but if I get R
38,U it doesn't take it.

RESPONSE= IEE703I REPLY 38 NOT REQUESTED FROM THIS CONSOLE

It worked perfectly in z/OS 2.2 But in 2.4 this has started occurring. I am
sure there is some changes in CONSOLxx parmlib member that needs to be
looked into.

Has anyone faced this issue?

MVS command display

2021-05-25 Thread Jake Anderson
Hello

Usually when we issue a MVS display command from SDSF we get immediately
get to see the output in bold white message and after that we can see
either in SYSLOG or ULOG. One of our user from operation is issuing the
command but doesn't get a immediate output in bold white instead it just
says 'command issued' and the output is seen only in log

Is there any specific user profile definition that I can look to fix this ?

Any pointers or direction are much appreciated.

connectivity to storage box or the tape device goes through a SAN switch.
How does the ZONING is done and is there any documentation with an example
to understand better. I am trying to google to see if I can find the one am
looking but I am not successful yet.

Is there any pointer or example if someone can help me with ? It will be of

EMC DLM over IBM VTL

2021-03-03 Thread Jake Anderson
Hello

We are analysing if EMC DLM would be a right fit to replace IBM VTL.

I am trying to understand about backup cycles using EMC DLM when we use
single backup solution and single virtual tape library to backup both
mainframe and open systems.

Is there a possibility for contention ?
Will there be a impact to mainframe backup when there is a high backup
volume for open system ?

These performance do effect the open system as well ?

Trying to understand these from the DLM users ? Any feedback would be
appreciated

Mainframe Multi factor authentication possibilities

2020-08-25 Thread Jake Anderson
Hello,

Cross posted.

We are planning to implement 2FA for mainframe logons. Here we have a
challenge where we use a common mainframe ID and would like to know if
there is a way to enforce 2FA which can identify a person based on
fingerprint or any other mechanism which can identify a person even if he
uses common mainframe ID.

Could someone share your experience if you have a similar set up in your
datacenter ?
