Re: HMC Integrated console and JAVA

2015-03-12 Thread Jim Phoenix

Alan,

Double check to make sure that you are not suppressing pop-ups in your browser
settings, of if you are, that your HMC is an exception. Also verify in the
JAVA security allows execution from the HMC IP address.

My ability to use the integrated console (and operating system messages)

I tried various browsers and fiddled with the options and settings based on
earlier IBM-MAIN posts to no avail.

I tried JAVA v7.x and V8.x.

When I log off the HMC (console actions) I get a pop-up saying I have x number
of tasks still running (where x corresponds to the number of times I click on
either the operating system messages or IC icons).

HMC code level is 2.12.1.

Help :)

This was discussed in 2007 on IBM-MAIN.

MVS has guaranteed the 4K hole at 7000 since MVS/XA and will do so in
the future. IBM code depends upon it. There is no equivalent for 24-bit mode.

If it doesn't also protect against long displacement instructions, then it
probably should.

So that long displacement instructions are guaranteed to get a S0C4 as well if
the base register is not initialized properly.

Re: Obtaining Download Director

2013-05-16 Thread Jim Phoenix

Graham,

According to the FAQ at
http://www6.software.ibm.com/dldirector/doc/DDfaq_en.html there is nothing to
install, you just JAVA installed.

So all you need do is click on a link to download some file with Download
Director.

Hello,

Is there a story on IBM's Download Director (DD), I need it for Windows 7. I've
had it on my dying XP laptop for many years .. works a treat, greatly faster
than HTTP.

For the new machine i googled Download Director and kept coming up with Systems
Director 6.1.2 so concluded it's therein. OK so I go to SAC and find Systems
Director is 4580mb, i.e enormous but I only need DD:-(.

SAC offers DD and HTTP and since I shortly need to download RDz and TXSeries am
keen to get DD up and running again.

So might DD be out there somewhere in teeny tiny form?
cheers

Re: LPAR real storage size

2012-11-22 Thread Jim Phoenix

Miklos,

That missing 1GiB is occupied by the HSA. Since the z10 and later machines
were announced, each machine has 16GiB dedicated to HSA that cannot be used for
LPAR storage. The z9 storage requirements for HSA were considerably larger than
prior generations, which has caused some consternation in shops that installed a
z9 or z9BC system.

I thought :

3Lpar2

But for the last Lpar more as 1 Gbyte was missing .

Any method or option to check this, before this activation errors ?

Excel spreasheet?
IMHO it's quite easy on current machines - there is no hidden HSA part in
memory visible to te customer.

Hint: There is an icon Storage Information - available from Support Element
(not from HMC).
