Indeed. This is sysprog 101. :-)

Issue the MVS Command D GRS,Cand see what else needs the data set.
Next, contact your system programmer in your shop for assistance.

Usually, GTF should be idle and not holding something - this is then when you
really need to contact the system programmer why GTF is busy.

To Chandramohan, Harish : I'm just curious, who/what is issueing message
'ISGECM1 ...' ? Searches on GOOGLE and IBM gave me false hits...

A modified version of SYS1.SAMPLIB(ISGECMON)? Just a guess...

That is that! I know the prefix ISG, but ECM got me stranded. I have looked at
ISGECMON and now I remember it. Years ago I investigated the problem of ENQs
which are holding up scheduled jobs and I eventually decided not to use
ISGECMON, but rather use Control-O to trap IEF099I and issue D GRS,C
automagically.

Thanks Norbert for kindly refreshing my decaying, rusty, muddy memory and
saving the last few braincells which I try to reserve for my retirement... ;-D

Re: OS message on HMC

2014-08-22 Thread Lizette Koehler
I have had issues where I would run GTF for days if not weeks for IOS or VTAM
type issues.

So I have no problem with a GTF task staying up for long periods.

What I have found is a lot of shops use the IBM names instead of create LPAR
specific names for TRACE or unique names for the event that is trying to be
trapped.

Though it may also be possible that this shop is trying to run multiple GTF
Tasks at the same time on the same LPAR. Which, as I recall, still cannot be
done. Only one GTF to rule them all.

Support for multiple GTFs on the same z/OS image was introduced in
z/OS 1.6.

Please guide me further to resolve the below message.

ISGECM1 Job 'GTF ' on system 'SYS2' is holding 'SYS1.TRACE'; other jobs
are waiting to use it.

This is a very simple issue.

The TASK - GTF has a datasets called SYS1.TRACE with either DISP=(,CATLG) or
DISP=OLD

Another task needs it.

Issue the MVS Command D GRS,Cand see what else needs the data set.

Next, contact your system programmer in your shop for assistance.
