Tom, I agree in principle,  but it does get attention!  Wonder how long it's
been upside down and I never noticed.

And it introduces a little 'poke fun at myself' from IBM.

Re: ShopzSeries FTP password in the clear

2017-09-18 Thread Jousma, David
I guess I don’t understand the problem. Yea, that password is in the clear,
but it’s a IBM generated password for that one specific order, good for a few
weeks, the entire order is removed anyway?

The only time I use that method is when I order CBPDO product upgrades between
serverpack upgrades. Even is using this method for regular maintenance, I
don’t see as a problem, because once again, it’s a IBM generated, temporary
password for that one specific order.

Apples and oranges. Tom you're talking about RECEIVE ORDER and I believe the
OP is talking about RECEIVE FROMNETWORK where the order was submitted using
Shopz, not using SMP/E.

For Shopz initiated orders, the entire information is provided to you
when you display the Download page for the order, which is presented to your
browser using HTTPS, so the entire page, including the PW, is encrypted. Once
you cut that info from your browser and paste into some data set, you are
correct the PW is "in the clear" but as already suggested, hopefully that data
set is protected with appropriate security profiles using RACF or similar.

When you run your SMP/E RECEIVE FROMNETWORK job, you must use either FTPS or
HTTPS for the download, so the PW is never sent over the wire in the clear.

Where exactly do your "cyber security folks" think the PW is in the clear?

It merely provides a different method of obtaining the order...one I am not

They do not know what they are talking about.
The primary difference between FTP and FTPS is the FTPS encrypts the password.

My cyber security folks are asking me about why I am doing FTPs with the
password "in the clear". At first, I did not know what they talking about.

It appears that within the SERVINFO data "user=" and "pw=" are *in the clear*.
Not always, but often enough.

I sent an email to L2 Shopz over a week ago and have not heard back from them.

Before I open a PMR, I wondered if the list had some sage advice (like an
options statement that I am missing).

Thanks in advance,

Bob

The problem is that even though it's encrypted over the network, it appears in
the
clear in the SERVINFO data set.

I don't know that RACF protecting that data set will placate the security folks.

I also am having a problem with downloads from ShopzSeries. I wasn't on
IBM-MAIN yesterday. I started a PMR yesterday afternoon and got this relpy:

There was an issue reported that was making that message appear.
The internal teams have been working over the issue and it should be fixed
by now.

Could you please help us out by trying to download your order once again?

I've checked your ID and I was able to get to the download link of your
order:

But today all I get is the page stating:

If it is a certificate related issue.. you can run a GSKSRVR trace. It's a
bit verbose... but gives you pretty specific information as to the real
issue.
These instructions were for CICS.. but it'll work for ftp just the same.

   - S GSKSRVR
   - Restart CICS.
   - Update GSKWTR PROC to add a dataset to hold the trace.
   - TRACE CT,WTRSTART=GSKWTR
   - TRACE CT,ON,COMP=GSKSRVR
   - R n,JOBNAME=(yyy),OPTIONS=(LEVEL=255),WTR=GSKWTR,END where yyy is the
   name of CICS.
   - Recreate the problem.
   - TRACE CT,OFF,COMP=GSKSRVR
   - TRACE CT,WTRSTOP=GSKWTR

   - get into IPCS
   - update *0 DEFAULTS - Specify default dump and options* with GSKWTR
   produced trace data set
   - *2 ANALYSIS - Analyze dump contents*
   - *7 TRACES - Trace formatting*
   - *1 CTRACE - Component trace*
   - *D DISPLAY - Specify parameters to display CTRACE entries*
   - update *component* with *GSKSRVR*, update *Report type* with *full*,
   and issue *S* to start the analysis

You need the GeoTrust Global CA certificate
(https://www.geotrust.com/resources/root-certificates/index.html) in the
keyring used by the ftp client. That's the CA that signed the FTP
server's cert and is required for the SSL handshake.

Time to call Shopz Support, since we're trying to use the certificate

I'm not sure what you mean when you say the cert works fine for RECEIVE
ORDER over a non-SSL connection. Which cert are you talking about?
The client certificate generated by Shopz? That's not used for the SSL
handshake at all. The generated client cert is used simply to carry
unique identifying information to the server, such as IBM customer number.

OK, everything APPEARED to work, but the output trace dataset did not get
created. Here's what our GSKWTR proc looks like:

//GSKWTR   PROC
//*-*//
//* Component trace external writer for the System SSL started *//
//*  task.  Up to 16 trace datasets (TRCOUT01 - TRCOUT16) may   *//
//*  be specified.  *//
//*-*//
//IEFPROC  EXEC  PGM=ITTTRCWR,REGION=32M
//TRCOUT01  DD   DSN=TECH.SYSSSL.CTRACE,DISP=(NEW,CATLG),
//SPACE=(CYL,(100)),UNIT=SYSDA

That's as delivered by IBM except for the output dataset name.

Now, for the JOBNAME in the WTOR I specified the batch job name that I
submitted. Should I specify FTPDn there instead? I.e., should I specify the
job name of the FTP Daemon? Seems counter-intuitive if true, since my batch
job is the client, not the server, in context.

THANK YOU, SIR!!

NOW we're cooking with gas.

Successfully completed the SSL handshake. Now all that remains is to get the
last tidbit of error data to our firewall guys so they can allow the private
(encrypted) data connection, and we should be in business.

That was a grasping at straws gesture, based (partly) on the ass.u.mption
that the CA that signed our client cert (Equifax Secure CA) would be the same
CA that signed IBM's server cert. WNORG! It did seem odd specifying a
personal key ring given that the connectivity test JCL included user and
password commands, which seem superfluous if authenticating with a certificate.

By chance, does the ECuRep server (where we upload PMR documentation) require
the GeoTrust Global CA as well? I've had similar fun trying th test an SSL
connection there, too.

Thanks,
