Hi, I am facing a weird problem now a days. I am running a test streaming server. For such issue I used Apple`s open source Darwin Streaming Server. Here, some times ( in fact, it`s now and then now ) that server loose it`s internet connectivity. If I restart that Debian machine, it becomes ok but after some days, it starts the same thing again. By the way, we are not serving live streaming, but, the streaming is serving from hard drive contents with rtsp protocol. Your DSS should work properly regardless of internet connectivity(Test streaming locally). Can you suggest me anything? Rather than create yet another distro - it might be worthwhile concentrating efforts on improving and extending what is already there. If there is strong need for a new distro then please address the following: 1. Support/ Training issues 2. Software updates 3. Release cycle to keep up with whichever upstream distro it is based of. The OP is looking at creating a distro based on sugar to meet the local people's need. Sugar interface is fine but it is essentially a Window Manager [1] and IIRC it is available for Fedora. Yes, But the applications targeted at school students. Everything represented as GUI elements(Like cartoons) Why can it not be ported/extended to the SchoolOS distro which is based on Ubuntu? There is already some effort on the way [2]. What I am suggesting is look for convergence between the various efforts and effective use of resources (limited). I have an idea of doing Linux distro as my final year project. Will it be better if i start with any already installed linux OS or by using the LFS(Linux From Scratch) live cd directly? If i use any linux OS which would do better for creating distro? A systematic implementation of LFS is the greatest and best way to learn about the GNU/Linux system. As for it being your final year project, guess you need to take advise from the others. I personally would prefer to employ anybody who has implemented a LFS system from scratch as a final year project than any standard project. But you need to go by industry norms regarding employability and project work. I also second that. LFS can be a learning project and help the student stand in good stead for job interviews. It will demonstrate strong planning, implementation and testing skills. 1. Check with you teacher whether this will be an acceptable project. 2. Work with a Linux expert as guide to do the project. 3. [Ilugc] FSFTN Workshop at Velalar college - Erode (Report)
Hi all, FSF, TN conducted yet another workshop - This time in Velalar college Erode on 17th and 18th August 2010. More than 300 students from different colleges in Erode district attended the session. Thanks to the great work by the organizing committee and college staff. Students were given introduction to Free software philosophy on the first day by Praveen and Sibi. This was followed by session on installation as well as basics of GNU\Linux file system. FSF, TN arranged a session on MySQL after this. All sessions generated great interest among the student community. Enthusiasm shown by college staffs and students in asking questions motivated the crew. Second day started with a very informative session on Python by Senthil from Collabnet. Students as well as Senthil spent 3 hours together interacting on usage of Python. Afternoon saw a very interesting session By Arun Thangamani on TAMIL COMPUTING. This was one of the session which highlighted the possibilities of FOSS in localisation. FSF, TN understands the need to generate more content in local language to make computing accessible to common man. FSF, TN formed a co-ordination committee for Erode region chaired by Sibi Raj from Coimbatore. Mohan, Moharaj, Akkash Robinipriya. All the participants were given a CD containing Ubuntu 10.04 as well. Thanks to all who participated in the event and to all the volunteers who made the event a great success. I have to test L2TP protocol using openswan and ipsec utilities for vpn connectivity. Mails over 10KB will go missing and your mails were both over this limit. Present list policy restricts postings to 10KB per mail. This policy is to prevent indiscriminate forwarding / quoting. Hi, I have installed nfs server on centos-5.3 and exported /usr/share/abcd directory on x.x.x.x machine. I added firewall rules for nfs. So no problem from firewall. I want to automate the nfs mounting. So I have installed autofs on another client running centos-5.3 and configured autofs for auto mounting as follows. - *r...@y.y.y.y*$ cat /etc/auto.master /mnt /etc/auto.nfs * r...@y.y.y.y*$ cat /etc/auto.nfs test -fstype=nfs,soft,intrx.x.x.x:/usr/share/abcd *r...@y.y.y.y*$ cat /etc/nsswitch.conf automount: files nis *r...@y.y.y.y*$ service autofs restart - service is restarted, But i do not see anything mounted on /mnt or /mnt/test directory. Post the output of service autofs status, and the related messages autofs(pid) running from /var/log/*. I do not get any logs related to autofs. Autofs will only mount directories when accessed. Often a cd /mnt/test is needed before /mnt/test will get auto mounted mountpoint /mnt is specified in /etc/auto.master config file. and test is specified in /etc/auto.nfs file. I thought that test directory will be created at mount time otherwise Give me clear configs for autofs setup. For any language, vocabulary indicates its richness. because, words represent virtually everything, whether its object, or an abstract thought, or an emotional feeling. So, richness in vocabulary means, refined representation of ideas and objects. Now coming to the core point, English had the vast set of vocabulary, which is used for comparative analysis and also differential learning. For example, the meaning for discovery and invention is different in english context, but its represented by the same word in tamil. There are many technical words, which doesnt have an equivalent word in tamil. Which means, we could not represent those technical subjects properly here. we missing a lot in Tamil. we have to do many more projects.. The need of the hour is to create new words in tamil to represent the developments, but at the same time, acceptable to the people. For that, we can develop a collobarative platform, so that learned tamil scholars, (also common people) across the globe, could suggest tamil words for english words, and discuss about that. When more people participate in that, we have more number of choices of words, and as it matures, we can choose a best fitting word for each english word. I have few suggestions. 1. The requirement document for this project can be maintained in tamil itself. (an initiative for software development in tamil) 2. This can be developed as a long term project with wide participation, and such a project can become wikipedia of tamil.. (for words) 3. [Ilugc] mouse not working
Hi, i am running Debian sid unstable release with kde 3.5 on my machine. i have USB Mouse and the same configured in xorg.conf. if i boot my system, i am getting KDM login window and the same time Mouse is working well. After the login i want to Logout the session so i have clicked End Session. Now I logged out form the KDE desktop then i am seeing KDM login woindow., but mouse is not working in that moment. now i tried to switching to virtual terminal tty1 (alt+ctl+F1) and again i returned back to Run level 7 (alt+ctl+F7)and now mouse is working. why the mouse is not working when i do end session or logout from KDE 3.5 desktop. Wheather I need to do any configuration change?? Please let me know. Please clariify me on this. Hi, I want to create linux installation iso with multiple CDs(2 or more CDs ) instead of DVD in linux. Is there any tool that will create linked multiple CD. whille installation it should ask for 2nd ..3rd CD consecutively.
