Re: [efloraofindia:115408] Rhoeo discolor like pot plant from Hooghly 01-05-12 SK-1
Hi Surajit Da. Yes, Rhoeo discolor has two genomes indicated by α β. During the meiotic segregation chromosomes comprising of each genomes moves towards the opposite poles. So that, each gamete has either α or β genome, hence the heterozygous condition (αβ) is maintained in the filial generation. It is believed that homozygous condition (αα or ββ) in Rhoeo leads to lethal mutation. Crossing over and synapsis do happen in the chromosomes but only at the terminal region of the arms along a restricted part. But, the sequential and detailed stages are not quite well understood. Re: [efloraofindia:115424] Tree for ID : Mumbai : 030512 : AK-1
Hi. This really tricky one to choose from two species Usha di and Ajinkya Ji has suggested. Sadly no cones are visible in the picture. But, I feel this tree is *Araucaria heterophylla* *(Norfolk Island Pine), quite a common *introduced* tree in North America and I got* *a *chance* to see a bunch of them in my university and this tree surely matches the* *morphology.* *Regards* *Tanay* * * On 2 May 2012 22:13, ushadi Micromini microminipho...@gmail.com wrote: The ree look like a norfolk island pine to me... dont know the binomial though,...
