Re: [efloraofindia:360533] Wild Plant For ID : Bangalore : 01DEC16 : AK-1

2020-10-02 Thread Samir Mehta
Yes Aarti ji, your old post got me thinking wrt habitat.

Paradesi Ji the query is about habitat, identification was never in doubt.

In fact, I have just returned from the beach again and have photographed
the plant, except flower bloom, for which I will go again to complete my
set.

I noted that the S. bispinosa along with a host of grasses, weeds, creepers
were growing there.

However, the S. bispinosa clumps were exactly at the spot where some
building / construction material had been dumped. So there was a mix of
sand and construction material ('rabit' is what we call it).

Will post pictures later after downloading and processing them.

Regards,

Samir Mehta

' Wild plant seen in the first week of Nov, growing near a lake. '

This is an old thread but today evening I had gone to the (Juhu) beach,
Mumbai, for a walk and saw a clump of these plants / shrubs on the beach.
I don't have quality images so not posting them (will go again and
photograph them).
My query is '*Do these grow commonly on sandy beaches also?'*

If so, pl. post as details are not clear.
I have not found such dense inflorescence in *Ligularia fischeri*
 (Ledebour) Turczaninow as per GBIF
 .

I found following species being found in Kashmir but did not find a
 match as per GBIF:
*Ligularia thomsonii* (C. B. Clarke) Pojarkova

 *Ligularia sibirica *(L.) Cass.

 *Ligularia amplexicaulis* DC.

I am also with the same opinion about the POWO. In most cases it is very
helpful but in some cases it is clueless.
It does not include most of the sbsp. and var. species and distribution.
And, in some cases
syn are mentioned as the accepted name which are not in other links!
Thank you.

Re: [efloraofindia:360459] Wild Plant for ID : Bangalore : 29SEP20 : AK-27

2020-10-02 Thread Saroj Kasaju
Keeping in view the number of leaflets and nature of stem "Stems variable,
usually puberulent with short curved hairs,
sometimes more or less densely clothed with longer spreading hairs", it
looks more close to Chamaecrista mimosoides (L.) Greene.

Thank you.

[efloraofindia:360449] Why POWO does not include all synonyms as in WCSP?

2020-10-02 Thread J.M. Garg
I am not able to understand why POWO

does not include all synonyms as mentioned in the most reliable KEW
database so far i.e. WCSP
.
Although these are properly captured in Catalogue of Life
,
whenever it sources its data from WCSP
.
Does anybody have any clue ?
