[IRCA] Alberta TPs for 30 October 2015
A quite interesting morning actually. The Japanese big guns weren't as big as some days, yet some of the second tier Japanese put in an appearance. Also, for the first time this season, the Koreans outshone Japan, with both 972 and 1566 having better signals than anything from Japan. (The 1053 jammer was good too, though the programming left something to be desired.) 747 JAPAN, Sapporo JOIB Got to audio level with language lesson at 1336 774JAPAN, AkitaJOUB Pretty much in tandem with 747, getting to audio around 1336. 972 KOREA,S, DanjingHLCA Perhaps its best performance of the season here today. First noted with man talking at 1337, and rose rapidly over the next 5 minutes. 1179UNID Just traces of audio at 1337. Too weak to ID language, but JOOR seems probable. 1242JAPAN, TokyoJOLF Traces of woman talking in Japanese at 1339. 1287JAPAN, Sapporo JOHR Weak, but definitely Japanese talk at 1331. 1566KOREA,S., ChejuHLAZ Didn't get to audio until 1331, but then rose rapidly to good level by 1338, and still going past 1400. 1575THAILANDVOA Not up to yesterday's level, weak, with talk by a man at 1351. 73, Nigel Pimblett Dunmore, AB Perseus SDR & Wellbrook Phased Array ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
Re: [IRCA] Palstar MW550P Comments/Evaluations
The MW550P does very well with the SPR4. I can use the stock bandwidth (4KHZ) and with the 550P, it narrows it, so the audio is better and I still get better bandwidth. I have the SPR4 modified so the crystal filter works on AM, but often it is a bit too narrow. On TA openings the SPR4 does better than the R8, so the 550P is a real asset. Re: [IRCA] DXpedition capture files?
I am not the most technical bear in the woods but there has to be a service that would fit our needs. I have Dropbox with 69 gigs and it doesn’t cost anything. Granted that's not enough for a dozen or so to be sending 4 and 5 gig files all the time but I think they have something called Dropbox for business at an added cost that would have all the capacity needed. If anybody knows of other services, jump in and we can put them in the pot and compare. Once we know of the best compromise of features and price we can talk about how to deal with the cost and the administrative logistics. Re: [IRCA] DXpedition capture files?
For file storage, there are some hosts that specialize in file storage. I've got a 400 GB plan at cloudshards.com for $12.75/month - it's a virtual server with very limited memory/cpu and lots of disk space. A lot of regular web host companies will promised "unlimited" disk space, but tend to over promise. An even cheaper alternative might be torrents. You'd need at least one or two people to keep the seed going, and then a centralized list of the torrents that are available. I personally haven't done much recording because the SDRMax recording and playback functionality (for the QS1R) is very poor. Maybe I should figure out how to use HDSDR for recording. > > Hi Mark, > I wish I could help but I haven't used a Perseus SDR in quite a while; I'm DXing with an Elad FDM-S2 as my primary receiver now. So, my WAV files are compatible with HDSDR, FDM-SW2, and Studio 1 software only. Also, I use 4 GB as my default file size so that fewer of the WAVs are generated during the DXpeditions, and this is a larger size than my cloud storage accounts will allow. It would be great, wouldn't it, if there was one universal file storage format for SDRs? I think as far as SDR receivers go, we're still in a period similar to the "Betamax vs. VHS" incompatibility era. 73, Guy Atkins Puyallup, WA > > > > -- Forwarded message -- > From: Mark Connelly > To: irca@hard-core-dx.com > Cc: > Date: Tue, 27 Oct 2015 12:33:24 -0400 > Subject: Re: [IRCA] Loop Antenna Gain for Rockworks #4 and #2 > > > Guy, is there any way that the one or two best "knock your socks off" > top-of-hour Perseus files from the Rockworks DXpedition could be uploaded > somewhere so DXers can "sit in" on the activities after the fact? > > > Same question applies to files from Walter's recent Masset run. > > > Back when you hosted the "Five Below" website, Guy, the sharing of capture > files from around the globe was a regular activity. [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 10-30
Colin apparently picked the right time to tune in this morning as a clunker band at 1250 and 1330 finally received a potent sunrise enhancement boost. Asians which had been dead rose up out of the noise around 1400, including some relatively unusual stations like 603-China. At first check around 1250 there was no Asian audio anywhere on the band, with only the somewhat unusual 1323 managing a decent carrier. Propagation didn't improve much by 1330, with only a few more decent carriers showing up on 972, 1017, 1044 and 1053. Just before 1400 the Asians got a potent boost, however, with 972-HLCA leading the show with good signals in and out.by 1405. 603-China came up out of the noise all alone (no HLSA) to reach fair levels in and out, along with a presumed 738-BEL2 and 1017-CRI. The Japanese big guns didn't seem all that impressed with the situation, though, with only 594 and 747 reaching fair audio between 1400-1430. The rejuvenated Asians didn't really stick around for long, however, with almost all of them bailing by 1435 here. Best signal of the bizarre session (by far) was from 972-HLCA, with good signals in and out just after the 1400 TOH. 73 and Good DX, Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA) 7.5" loopstick C.Crane Skywave Ultralight + 15" FSL antenna ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
[IRCA] Friday's cautious return - TP's Victoria
Odd morning today - quick check at 1415 UTC- Cage rattling loud Korea on 972 kHz. Muted audio on the big guns; 594, 747, 774, 828... Audio or prospects on 891, 909, 918, 1008, 1098 and others... Great JJ audio on 1287 but nothing much upper band. It was a Jackson Pollack canvas with inexplicable hot spots in odd places.
