Had some of the usual TA signals, none with great audio. We're likely in what
some call the mid-winter anomaly. Hot two weeks to a month ago, cx not terribly
good this week-long trip here.

Re: [IRCA] Hets on high side of 1520 and low side of 1540

2011-03-01 Thread HASCALL, DAVID CIV DFAS
I think that WCKY has had some audio + signal issues over the past few
months. At about 100 air miles (at night) their signal often sounds
muddy or even like properly tuned SSB (slightly artificial / garbled).
I have also noticed that their signal is very fat, producing way to much
splatter. I have noticed this on several different receivers. Sounds
like they need to do what WSCR 670-IL has done and take it down for a
night or two to see what's up. AND that is okay with me as they are my
only log on 1530. :)

No question in my mind this is WCKY. I had this on both 1520 and 1540,
and
indeed looped away from Saudi Areabia - at Burnt River ON. The signal on

1530 was huge.

There are hets on high side of 1520, started at 1khz, now at
2.5khz high. There is also a het on low side of 1540, was 1khz
low, now 2.5khz low.

In the middle of this is
1530. My suspicion is WCKY is putting out spikes on either
side of it's carrier.

Anyone else picking these up?
Doubt this is the Saudi, loop bearing is slightly SE - in direction
of Cincinnatti.

[IRCA] Hets and audio on high end of band

Quick band scan last netted no ID's but many hets on the top end of the band.
Usually bellwether 1521 Saudi Arabia in very loudly last night @ approx 2200 ET

Many hets which I did not investigate on during mid evening.

Re: [IRCA] Hets on the upper end of band + TWR Benin-1566?

2008-02-06 Thread k4ape

Thanks Nick for the info. I really don't have any idea about what any of the
stations are. To get the R4-C to work on the BCB band I need to a 10 meter
converter ahead of the rig. The attenuation of the converter is to great. I
have thought about building a 10 meter amplifier to go between the converter
and the rig, but that is something for the future.

I did not report 1134 but I did have a weak het back around 0100. The IBOC
from WRVA-1140 was giving me fits at the time.

At the moment I am looking for day time stations to the west of me, that
might be on the air because of all bad weather that is heading my way.

At 0200 did hear weather warnings for the New Orleans area from WWL-870.
They have a few tornados there today. At 0330 it is geting where I am going
to have to disconnect the outside antennas, it is starting rain and the wind
up,really blowing the trees.

only 1215 and 1134 delivered weak carriers here so far as I could tell.

I wonder if your 1566 was the new Trans World Radio from Benin? This
has been mentioned on the MW Circle list:

2008-02-05 Thread k4ape
Doing a quick scan of the upper part of the AM BCB band I have hets on the
following frequencies

I'd look into the possibility that someone on 1070 is
carrying some programming that has 8 kc audio
embedded in it, Note the perfect symmetry of
these hets against 1070. Also 1078 is not a TA
frequency.

You'd never detect this directly by listening on 1070.
Only indirectly by seeing if any programming you could
hear on 1070 might sound like it was a satellite feed.

Or another indirect way is to see if the signals go off
simultanelously when the station cuts away to local
origination and even that is not foolproof. because it
might be an artifact in the audio chain at the station.

I am certain this is not of Cuban origin.

[IRCA] Hets on 1062 and 1078

2008-01-16 Thread k4ape
For the first time since September 07 I am hearing hets. On 1062 and 1078.
They are VERY strong! but no audio. Not sure if they really are hets or thye
Cubans with an open carrier.

1078 may not be a TA.

Any one else hearing these?
