With KCIS off (or on very low power backup--the religious music?) ,I wonder
what was going on with CHED Edmonton which sometimes shows up under KCIS.Not a
trace  I did get a temporary rise out of Boise ID but it soon fell back into
the mud again.Unusual conditions on 630.Bill in
BC.
Also heard lots of hets and I thought I heard a foreign language come in with
a very strong whistle on 747. Too bad the splits are sitting in between some
very busydomestic channels. Imagine what the possiblities would be if  the
TAs and TPs were located on the 5s halfway between the North American Freqs.

I checked 630 after seeing your original e-mail last night. At about
9:30 PST, KCIS was its usual strong self. It sounded about normal
strength here whenever I checked after that. So it may have either been
weird conditions or elese they had problems earlier in the evening.

Bruce,

That is odd. I tried after Midnight and had CHED alone on the channel
for a time. I wonder if it was cx or did KCIS go off? I never hear CHED
These days dominant. If I hear it, it is buried u/KCIS. So maybe the
soft rel mx I heard was a weak KCIS?
KCIS normally is on top off the NE/NW EWEs.

[IRCA] KCIS 630

2009-09-26 Thread Patrick Martin
Hi everyone,

The IRCA Conventon was a blast. Mike did a great job! Thanks so much.

Since I have been back, I have been checking out the dial. The powerline
noise seems to have gone away. At least gone away for the time being.
Anyway, I found KCIS 630 weaker than normal for the past couple of days.
Does anyone else in the Puget Sound area notice it? KWRO Coquille is 50%
stronger than KCIS now. They used to be about equal. The SW EWE still
only gets KWRO and the NE EWE only gets KCIS.

I haven't noticed any significant changes in strength for KCIS-630. I
checked just now, and their signal level is similar to that of many
other Seattle stations, i.e. about an S-unit weaker than KIRO and half
an S-unit stronger than KVI

stronger? Maybe KWRO improved their signal, but KCIS does eem to have a
lower S Meter reading

2009-09-26 Thread John H. Bryant
Sorry that I did not respond to this sooner, guys. I think that it
is possible that KCIS is down a ways. I've found them much easier to
null down this past month than I remember them (with the same
equipment here) in past years. I'm not certain could be that I
just discovered that I can get KJNO in the early part of each dawn
and that I can sometimes get an Asian on top. Anyway, they SEEM more
willing to be nulled down this fall.

Sadly, 900-Victoria has returned to full strength about three days
ago. Sadly, the only thing that I heard on 900 was Wenatchee, WA,
but it sure did make 909 easier!

Here in Puyallup, in the pre-dawn hours, I find that KCIS 630 mixing beneath
another domestic station runs a solid S-9 on the Perseus, but KVI-570,
KIRO-710, and KOMO-1000 are all reading S-9+35dB (aka -35 dBm).

KCIS is still good and strong cochannel 1 or 2 other domestics here in
Victoria, at least this morning at 13:00. Other mornings, KJNO dominates the
channel. CHED well heard about 13:01 this morning, so not a particularly good
Alaskan morning, I suspect.Walt

Re: [IRCA] KCIS 630

2009-09-26 Thread Bruce Portzer

Guy

Your observations would be expected since KVI KIRO KOMO are all much
closer to you than KCIS, which has its transmitter north of Seattle and
has a null in your direction.

According tom the Zipsignal website, http://www.v-soft.com/ZipSignal/ ,
KCIS should be my second strongest local after KIXI-880, based on the
FCC database info. It's actually a bit weaker than some of my other
locals, such as KIRO KOMO, which may mean my antenna isn't really
omnidirectional (very likely) or KCIS's antenna is putting out less than
what's in the FCC database (also possible).

Zipsignal is an interesting website - you enter your zip code and it'll
show the field strengths for nearby AM FM stations.
