Some TP-DX recordings from this morning. It was mostly a big gun session, but
several less common Asians were hanging around at a weak level.

738 BEL2 Penghu, Taiwan (presumed) Female vocal music at a weak level, matching
BEL2's format

1053 Korean Jammer One of the healthier TP signals this morning, with a good
buzz at 1317

Thanks to Dennis for his TP-DXing report from Kalama. Results here were almost
the same, with overall propagation improving somewhat to bring in several
unusual Asians in addition the usual Japanese and Korean big guns.

At my 1300 start time the band sounded fairly subdued, with only the
1053-Jammer and 1566-HLAZ having good audio. 747-JOIB joined these around 1310
(hit hard by Portland splatter), followed by 594-JOAK at 1325. Around 1315 a
diverse collection of weak TP's started showing up on 531, 603, 657, 738, 1035
and 1044 kHz, but none of these could manage more than ghostly audio for a few
seconds at a time. 657-Pyongyang, a presumed 738-BEL2 and 1035-CNR1 were barely
strong enough to recognize the languages. Late on around 1325 weak signals
showed up from 1134-JOKR and 1575-VOA, while the Japanese big guns on 594 and
747 hit their strongest level (very good). Overall the session was fairly
average, but a slight improvement over yesterday. The 1053-Jammer had the
strongest signal (very good) around 1320.

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 9-13

2015-09-13 Thread d1028gary

Hello All,

Thanks to Walt, Dennis and Brian for their detailed TP-DU reports this morning.
Conditions here were almost identical to those noted by Dennis, with the
Japanese on 594, 747 and 828 reaching good levels at times. 1575-VOA also made
a fair appearance here at 1330, and the Koreans on 603, 972, 1053, 1134 and
1566 were all in and out throughout the session.

My session started at 1255 with 1566-HLAZ the star of the show, with a
temporary good level in the Auburn splatter. 594-JOAK then faded in with a good
signal in and out at 1305, and the bizarre signing practice on 972-HLCA (and
apparently 1134-KBS) fading in at a fair level around 1315. Like yesterday a
large number of anemic Asians stuck around the noise level all session but
never amounted to much, including 603-HLSA, 693-JOAB, 738 (apparently BEL2),
the 1053-Jammer and 1503-JOUK. 1575-VOA made its first decent appearance of the
new season (fair) in and out at 1330, while the NHK2 Japanese on 747 and 828
rose up to fair levels late on around 1335. Best signals of the modest Asian
session were from 594-JOAK at 1310 and 1566-HLAZ at 1255 (both good).

594  JOAK   Tokyo, Japan   Japanese male speech at fair to good level at 1305

NHK1 giggly "fun bunch" at similar level around 1315
https://app.box.com/s/xw3mu9ncekkg3v3ltjw3ufh0jq26bqtn

1575  VOA   Ban Rassom, Thailand   Female Asiatic speech in and out at fair
level at 1330

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 9-13

2014-09-13 Thread Gary DeBock via IRCA
---BeginMessage---

Hello All,

Well, once again my morning results were the direct opposite of Nigel's-- I had
some marginal Asian TP reception on the low band, but no trace of DU
propagation :-)

At my 1230 UTC start time a couple of NHK die-hards (594-JOAK and 693-JOAB)
were the only Asians with audio, and the Korean big guns on 972, 1053 and 1566
weren't even managing a carrier (highly unusual here). 594-JOAK actually
sounded pretty healthy around 1309 with the first trace of daylight, but
693-JOAB was only at a fair level, having a rough time with 690-Vancouver
splatter. The Japanese trend continued with 747-JOIB and 828-JOBB coming out of
the noise to reach poor levels around 1315, along with ghostly deep-voiced male
speech on 603 (presumed HLSA) around 1320. After yesterday's stellar
performance by 972-HLCA the complete lack of any Korean propagation on 972 or
1053 sounded pretty bizarre, and with the exception of a persistent 594-JOAK
the Japanese die-hards were quick to bail around 1330. Overall the session was
fairly lackluster because of the poor solar conditions, although JOAK did
manage fair to good signals for almost an hour (1230-1330).

594 JOAK Tokyo, Japan Good-level Japanese male speech at 1309; best Asian
signal of the morning

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 9-13

2013-09-13 Thread d1028gary

Hello All,

It was pretty much a repeat of yesterday morning here, with good audio from the
Japanese and Korean big gun TP's, but little else. 594, 693, 747, 774, 828,
972, 1053 and 1287 all had fair to good audio at times, with both 972-HLCA and
the 1053-Jammer reaching excellent levels around 1315. In contrast to this the
second-tier Asians were mostly missing in action, although 603-HLSA once again
had fair audio around 1310 (like yesterday). Mainland Chinese stations were
again missing in action as far as audio was concerned, and 738-BEL2 in Taiwan
once again had a late rally around 1330 to reach anemic audio. All things
considered, it was almost an exact repeat of yesterday, and certainly lacking
in exotic signals.

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 9-13 (or lack thereof)

2012-09-13 Thread d1028gary

Hello All,

Asiatic signals suffered a major drop off here this morning as even the big
gun TP regulars struggled to produce any audio. 594-JOAK was one of the few to
be heard with poor Japanese talk at 1310, but even 747-JOIB and 774-JOUB stayed
at carrier levels. 657-Pyongyang and the 1053-Korean Jammer (both with equally
interesting programming) managed a few ghostly traces of audio at times, but
1566-HLAZ (which was so vibrant yesterday) also stayed at the carrier level. I
suspect that some kind of solar flare put the skids on TP propagation, at least
for the 1300-1340 UTC period.

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 9-13

2010-09-13 Thread D1028Gary
Hello All,

It was another good Asiatic TP morning here, with the first all-time new TP
logged here from the new DX season. To investigate mysteries on 729, 1053
and other frequencies, I switched over to the 9' sided PVC tuned passive
loop this morning. WWF wrestling experience is helpful in handling this
monster box loop, but it immediately made a difference in sorting out the TP
mysteries. A TP was back on 729 kHz this morning in 730-CHMJ splatter, this
time with Japanese at a good level. It was immediately identified from the
594 kHz parallel as JOCK in Nagoya, an all-time new TP here (thanks, Bruce).
This may have been yesterday's 729 mystery station, but will keep
reviewing yesterday's MP3 for confirmation. 1053 kHz was checked repeatedly
with
the 9' loop this morning, but the Jammer was overpowering at S9+, drowning
out the competition. Other frequencies like 603, 738 and 891 kHz had
interesting TP mixes, but there wasn't enough time to sort them all out. For
those
curious about the appearance of a 9' sided PVC box loop (and the relatively
puny DXer), a photo is posted at _http://www.mediafire.com/i/?jraw1yly2ff_
(http://www.mediafire.com/i/?jraw1yly2ff)

The following were heard on a C.Crane SWP Slider model (7.5 loopstick) and
9' PVC tuned passive loop in the back yard:

558 JOCR Kobe, Japan Good Japanese music and conversation, 1307
585 JOPG Kushiro, Japan Fair-good Japanese NHK1 program, 1309
594 JOAK Tokyo, Japan Very strong with Japanese conversation, 1308
603 (TP-Mix) Korean speech (presumed HLSA) and music (presumed China)
fighting it out at a fair-good level around 1319; no clear
winner
639 CNR1 Beijing, China Fair signals with Chinese speech and music, 1314
648 VOR Razdolnoye, Russia Fair with Chinese external program, 1315
657 Pyongyang, N. Korea Strong tirade complete with ragged carrier, 1309
666 JOBK Osaka, Japan Another booming Japanese signal from 1305-1315
675 VOV Hanoi, Vietnam Weak Vietnamese audio in and out at 1319
729 JOCK Nagoya, Japan All-time new TP here, with good signals through
  CHMJ splatter at 1316
_http://www.mediafire.com/?uyyt3mcmm9djse6_
(http://www.mediafire.com/?uyyt3mcmm9djse6)
738 (TP-Mix) Chinese pop music (BEL2-Taiwan) and Korean speech (HLKG)
mixing at good level; Taiwan had the edge as usual
747 JOIB Sapporo, Japan Booming Japanese signal, almost splattering KXL
756 CNR1 (presumed) Chinese-type music playing hide and seek around 1327
774 JOUB Akita, Japan Great signal with NHK2 program, moderate KTTH
828 JOBB Osaka, Japan Fair-good through most of sunrise enhancement
891 (TP-mix) Japanese speech (JOHK) dominant, with unknown music way
  underneath
927 China (presumed) Carrier flirting with audio for most of morning
936 China (presumed) Audio flirting with carrier for most of morning
972 HLCA Dangjin, S. Korea Good strength with Korean conversation, 1332
1053 Korean Jammer Full-quieting on the 9' loop at 1313, shutting out
the
   co-channel competition
_http://www.mediafire.com/?xtht62w3svhcthd_
(http://www.mediafire.com/?xtht62w3svhcthd)
1134 (TP-Mix) Japanese conversation (JOQR) over Korean speech (KBS) with
weak Chinese music (CNR1); a real convention at bizarre strength
1377 China (presumed) Weak audio that dived when investigated, 1320
1566 HLAZ Jeju, S. Korea Strong as usual with Japanese religious program
1575 VOA Ban Rassom, Thailand Fair-good with male/ female Asiatic
conversation at 1334, but with typical deep fades
1593 China (presumed) Yet another Chinese station with anemic threshold
audio, following the general Chinese trend of the morning
