Is a radio listener, scanner, Ham radio operators sweet dream with racks of

an active HAM station in the showroom area.

I brought back some Canadian color bandplan charts if any of the local ham

There are around three electronics shops on Main St. in Vancouver that cater to
DIY ENGINEER and hacker types.

I've been in - amazing to see dozens of young teen and 20-something boys and
girls buying discrete electronic components.

RP Electronics still exist: they've moved from the West 4th Ave location
in Kitsilano to a mini-mall store-front on Rupert, just south of the
BNSF/CN railway tracks and across from Real Canadian Superstore.

It's been a while since I visited, but they had become a

Re: [IRCA] RadioShack Has Essentially Shut All Its Stores

2017-06-07 Thread Sylvain Naud
The Source became some kind of a "Bell Store" since the franchise was
bought by Bell in Canada. Just to mention, our store has been a Radio
Shack Dealer since the 80's. The business was good with that provider
until the brand became property of Bell.

At contact renewal, we were forced to get rid of the competition
regarding Cellular and TV providers we were used to deal with to
ultimately, sell exclusively Bell products.

That rang the end of a long partnership for us and for other associated
dealers.

Pity actually because there market for electronics DIY and leading edge

not necessarily

Two within about 20 miles of here closed last week. Two others remain (
King of Prussia Mall and Doylestown PA ), however these will be closing
within 2-3 months.

Before the closest one left closed, I was able to purchase some cables,
adapters, and other items at 80-90% off.

I probably don't have anything else I could need to visit one of the
remaining stores during the last couple of weeks, although I'll probably do
so just in case I see something I hadn't thought about.

Now down to one. I heard Sears & K Mart are about really to go too. With
Amazon, and other services, the catalog stores are no longer needed. Even
our J.C. Penny's in Astoria is closing at the end of August, after 101

2017-06-07 Thread Patrick Martin
We still have one here, Warrenton. At one time we had three in the county. Now
down to one. I heard Sears & K Mart are about really to go too. With Amazon,
and other services, the catalog stores are no longer needed. Even our J.C.
Penny's in Astoria is closing at the end of August, after 101 years. A
different era indeed.

My Radio Shack DX150B - purchased on November 3rd, 1973 -- unlike the
company - still going strong!

Have heard all continents on it on medium wave - apart from Antartica.
