Bismillah [IslamCity] VIDEO Israeli soldier fires 'rubber' bullet at handcuffed, blindfolded Palestinian detainee
http://www.btselem.org/english/Press_Releases/20080720.asp http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Hdm89WxkGs 20 July '08: B'Tselem: Prosecute soldier who fired 'rubber' bullet at Palestinian detainee, Investigate the involvement of an officer in the event and suspected cover-up. Today, B'Tselem is publishing a video clip documenting a soldier firing a rubber coated steel bullet, from extremely close range, at a cuffed and blindfolded Palestinian detainee. The shooting took place in the presence of a lieutenant colonel, who was holing the Palestinian's arm when the shot was fired. The incident took place on 7 July, in Nil'in, a village in the West Bank. A Palestinian demonstrator, Ashraf Abu Rahma, 27, was stopped by soldiers, who cuffed and blindfolded him for about thirty minutes, during which time, according to Abu-Rahma, they beat him. Afterwards, a group of soldiers and border policemen led him to an army jeep. The video clip shows a soldier aim his weapon at the demonstrator's legs, from about 1.5 meters away, and fire a rubber coated steel bullet at him. Abu-Rahma stated that the bullet hit his left toe, received treatment from an army medic, and released by the soldiers. A fourteen-year-old Palestinian girl from Nil'in filmed the incident from her house in the village, and B'Tselem received it this morning. B'Tselem does not know if any proceedings were opened against those involved. However, residents of Ni'lin told B'Tselem that they saw the soldier the following day, still serving in his unit. B'Tselem immediately forwarded a copy to the Military Police Investigation Unit commander, with demand that an immediate Military Police investigation be opened, if it hasn't already, and that the soldier be brought to justice. Additionally, B'Tselem demanded that the involvement of the lieutenant colonel who was holding the detainee is investigated. B'Tselem stressed that members of the security forces are obligated to report unlawful acts. It is even more serious is a high-ranking officer participates in such a whitewash. - End - === Palestinians and foreign peace activists hold regular protests against the confiscation by Israel of private Palestinian land for the construction of the "Separation Wall," the gigantic barrier Israel is building in the area.Vast swaths of Palestinian farms, orchards and groves have been seized by Israel under the pretext of building the wall, most of which is built deep in the West Bank far away from the so-called Green Line, the former armistice line between Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory. Numerous Palestinians have been killed or maimed by Israeli army rubber bullets .Abu Rahma told B'tselem that the bullet hit him in the left toe. He reportedly received treatment by an army medic before he was set free. Israeli soldiers and settlers have lately escalated their abuse of mostly unprotected Palestinians. In June, a number of masked Israeli settlers, carrying clubs, savagely attacked elderly Palestinian peasants and shepherds near the town of Yatta in the southern West Bank causing them grievous injuries.Similarly, Jewish settlers earlier this month assaulted a Palestinian from the village of Sammou, also in the southern West Bank. The settlers tied up the 35-year-old Palestinian teacher to a power pole and brutally beat him.Human rights organizations operating in the West Bank have documented many cases of abuse by Israeli soldiers, especially by a notorious paramilitary brigade known as the Border Police.Abuse cases included soldiers forcing Palestinian laborers to drink soldiers' urines, forcing Palestinians to curse their religion, and forcing them to sing songs praising Israel and the Border policeman.Normally, such abusive behavior on the part of Israeli soldiers goes unpunished which human rights groups contend only serves to encourage further abuse. Bismillah [IslamCity] Supplications (Duas)
Supplications (Duas) The Sunnah of reciting the three Quls and its benefits Q. Following the practice of Rasulullah (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) with regards to reading the 3 Quls thrice and rubbing over one’s body, what is the Sunnah method for this practice? And when should this be performed? A. It is narrated on the authority of Aa’ishah (Radiyallahu Anha) that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) used to recite Surah Ikhlaas, Surah Falaq and Surah Naas before retiring to bed. He used to blow into his hands after recitation and rub his hands over his body. (Tafseer ibn Kathir). It is recorded in Abu Dawood that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)said, “Whoever recites the Qul Huwallahu Ahad, Qul A’uzu Birabbil Falaq and Qul A’uzu Birabbinnaas three times each every morning and evening, this will be sufficient for him for everything. (سنن أبي داود، الحديث: 5084) In this Hadith, it is mentioned that by doing this, “this will be sufficient for him for everything”. This means that if a person practices on this Hadith with full faith and with punctuality, he will be saved from all evil including black magic and evil spirits. Note: For one to experience the full effect of these Wazifa’s from the Qur’aan and Hadith, it is necessary to abstain from all sins.
Bismillah [IslamCity] Out of Iraq, into the White House?
Out of Iraq, into the White House? The Iraqi prime minister's support of Barack Obama's troop exit plan is the biggest story of the election campaign so far * * Michael Tomasky * guardian.co.uk, * Monday July 21, 2008 Boy would I have liked to have been tapping the phone lines between Washington and Baghdad on Saturday afternoon. I would love to know exactly what people in the Bush White House were saying to one another, and more importantly what they were saying to Baghdad, after Der Spiegel published its now-famous interview with the Iraqi prime minister, Nouri al-Maliki, in which he in essence endorsed Barack Obama's withdrawal timetable. Bush officials acknowledged on Sunday that they did indeed call the Maliki government for, ah, clarification. I bet they did. A Maliki spokesman walked the statement back that same day, but unpersuasively. The New York Times made it a point to get the tape from Der Spiegel and provide its own translation in today's editions. The Times says Maliki said: Obama's remarks that – if he takes office – in 16 months he would withdraw the forces, we think that this period could increase or decrease a little, but that it could be suitable to end the presence of the forces in Iraq … Who wants to exit in a quicker way has a better assessment of the situation in Iraq. If that's not a functional endorsement of one candidate's position over the other, then there's no such thing. But don't take my word for it. Take Bush's. On Saturday morning, when Reuters first moved a story based on the Der Spiegel interview, the White House – which commonly sends emails to journalists flogging news stories that defend its positions or actions – mistakenly sent its press list an email based on the Reuters piece with the subject heading: Iraq PM backs Obama troop exit plan. Marc Ambinder of the Atlantic had the right read on the importance of this over the weekend: This puts John McCain in an extremely precarious spot: what's left to argue? To argue against Maliki would be to predicate that Iraqi sovereignty at this point means nothing. Ambinder received an email from a prominent Republican strategist who occasionally provides advice to McCain who wrote, simply: We're fucked. Not sure about the f-bomb, but precarious is certainly hard to argue with. The McCain campaign tried to spin Maliki's comments by saying that Obama is on the side of unconditional withdrawal while McCain and Maliki believe withdrawal must be based on facts on the ground. This is an argument, as MSNBC put it, that many independent analysts would find questionable – Obama is not for unconditional withdrawal. That argument won't fly. Longer term, McCain's problem here is that whenever the question of withdrawal comes up – as it will, most notably in the fall debates – Obama can just say something like, The prime minister – George Bush's prime minister – supports my plan. President Bush and others, including you, have often said that when the Iraqis are ready to stand up, we'll stand down. Mr Maliki says they're ready. Now, John, who's more connected to the reality on the ground? But there are potential pitfalls here for Obama, who must tread very cautiously for the remainder of this trip. He arrived in Baghdad this morning. He will meet with American commanders soon, including General David Petraeus, who has, it's safe to say, demonstrated through his past congressional testimony that he, like Maliki, is willing to drop political hints. Where Maliki seems to lean Democratic, though, Petraeus goes GOP. If anything can submarine Obama's trip, it's a leak from the military brass suggesting that they met Obama and were unimpressed. Second, Obama needs to be on his watch once he hits Israel. The administration and McCain have many friends there, and Obama does not. We've always known that the European part of Obama's tour should be the easy part – he'll be loved there, and it's hard to picture him tripping up in such a supportive environment. Israel will be a different matter, and I suspect GOP-friendly operatives in the country are thinking about how to lay a land mine or two right now (maybe with some encouragement from Washington). Whatever happens over the course of this trip, Maliki's statement is the biggest story so far in this general-election campaign. It will resonate through the fall, and it started Obama's trip off on a more positive note that he could have dared to imagine, and that frankly he did little to deserve, aside from not being involved with the strategic mistakes made during this war. Apparently, to Maliki, that's enough. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2008/jul/21/iraq.barackobama __ Not happy with your email address?. Bismillah [IslamCity] Islam and the pluralist state
Islam and the pluralist state Editorial, The Independent, Saturday July 19, 2008 It would be easy to criticise the Government's plan to fund a new independent board of Islamic theologians to advise the Muslim community about the tricky issues faith provokes in a modern pluralist society. Hardline secularists yesterday trotted out familiar arguments about the separation of church and state while, at the other extreme, Muslims such as Azzam Tamimi – who has sought to justify suicide bombings – were accusing ministers of trying to create state-sponsored Islam. It is not, of course, for the Government to dictate on matters of religious teaching. But that is not what is being proposed. Ministers are merely responding to the call within Muslim communities for a forum in which stronger leadership can be demonstrated on what are often controversial issues. Islam is not like mainstream Christianity with its hierarchies or centres of authority. There is no Muslim pope, nor even the Islamic equivalent of the infamously dispersed authority of the Archbishop of Canterbury. But it is not an interpretative free-for-all, as some suggest; it is a faith structure which makes clear appeals to authority. If taxpayers' money is to be spent bringing together a diverse range of British Muslim voices to reflect authoritatively on Islam in a modern context – and in the process show young British Muslims that their faith is compatible with the shared values that go with being a British citizen – that is a powerful public service. The fact that this is to be done in a religious context is a plus rather than a minus. Secularist solutions will not hold much sway with the Muslim community. Indeed, many disenchanted young British Asians need more Islam, not less: unless they have a proper understanding of what Islam is really about, they can all too easily become easy prey for the distortions of jihadists later in life. That is what happened to Britain's 7 July suicide bombers, all of whom had been to secular schools. Mosques are therefore an apposite place in which to hold the new citizenship classes. They will help young Muslims to break out of narrow ethnic or sectarian backgrounds. They will improve their ability to compete for jobs and influence in British society. And they will equip them to play a more active leadership role in their communities. The initiative is to be applauded. http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/leading-articles/leading-article-islam-and-the-pluralist-state-871775.html __ Not happy with your email address?. Bismillah [IslamCity] An American Soldier To a Dying Afghan - Dr.M.K.Sherwani
An American Soldier to a Dying Afghan *** How blessed was my bullet that gave me a chance, To have an enthralling glance of a dying warrior. This blissful smile on your face, This stream of blood from your chest; This Divine aura prevailing all around, As you are moving to your final rest. The fire coming from the barrels of my gun, Has burnt hundreds of men, women and babes. I curse my stars, as I never saw before, How the brave purify their souls; In the pool of their own blood, When they go to meet their Guardian Lord. Before you close your eyes to leave this world, Look at me.Oh the warrior ,the pride of this land! I place my gun at your feet, And take yours in my hand; To carry forward your sacred goal, And to die an enviable death like you. I wish my mother, wife and children, May join the ranks of those; Whose sons, husbands and fathers, This my cruel gun has claimed. *** Dr. Mustafa Kamal Sherwani, LL.D. Bismillah [IslamCity] The superiority of Tawheed and what it removes of sins Part 2
* Surah 6. Al-Anaam verse 82 It is those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah and worship none but Him Alone) and confuse not their belief with Zulm (wrong i.e. by worshipping other besides Allah), for them (only) there is security and they are guided ones. Narrated Ubadah bin As-Samit (May Allah be pleased with him), that Allah's Messenger (May the peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) said: Whoever testifies that there is nothing worthy of worship in truth (no God) except Allah Alone, Who is without (peer or) partner, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger, and that 'Iesa (Jesus) is the slave of Allah, His Messenger, and His Word which He bestowed in Maryam (Mary) and a spirit (created) from Him, and that Paradise Hell-fire are realities, Allah will admit him into Paradise, whatever his deeds might be. (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Hadith No. 3252) 'Itban (May Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (May the peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) said: Indeed Allah has forbidden for Hell the person who testifies: 'There is nothing worthy of worship in truth (no true God) but Allah', seeking thereby nothing but Allah's Face (pleasure). (Al-Bukhari, Muslim). Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him) narrated that Allah's Messenger (May the peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) said: Musa (Moses) (May the peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) said: 'O my Rabb, teach me something through which I can remember You and supplicate to You.' Allah answered: 'Say, O Musa, La ilaha ilIa-Allah'. Musa said: 'O my Rabb, all your slaves say these words'. Allah said: 'O Musa, if the seven heavens and all they contain other than Me (Ghairy) and the seven earths as well, were all put in one side of a scale and La ilaha ilIa-Allah put in the other the latter would overweigh them.' [This Hadith has been reported by Ibn Hibban, and Al-Hakim declared it Sahih]. Anas (May Allah be pleased with him): He heard Allah's Messenger (May the peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) saying: Allah the Most Exalted said: 'O son of Adam, were you to come to Me with the world full of sins, and meet Me without making anything partner to Me (Shirk), I would come to you with a similar amount of forgiveness.' reported by At-Tirmidhi * -- Ibn Abee Shaybah narrated in Al Musanaf: 13/496, with his isnaad up until Abu Qelaabah, 'Abdullah Ibn Zayd that he said: The 'ulemah are like the stars that people are guided by, and the signposts that people follow. If they disappear the people will become confused, and if they leave them they will be lead astray.

The Egyptian authorities in Rafah are refusing entry of the medicines to Gaza and are now demanding that Khalil and Linda drive the van away from their destination towards El Arish. There, they were initially refused entry and told to turn back, before the medicines were allowed to transit Turkey, Syria, Jordan and Egypt to get to the people of Gaza. Obviously, this is a very modest gesture of our support for the people of Gaza, in the main a refugee people, who are suffering the grim results of a wholly man-made crisis. Bismillah [IslamCity] Jihad means Struggle Effort not Terrorism like IRA or US do....
The label of Catholic terror was never used about the IRA Fundamentalism is often a form of nationalism in religious disguise Karen Armstrong Monday July 11, 2005 The Guardian Last year I attended a conference in the US about security and intelligence in the so-called war on terror and was astonished to hear one of the more belligerent participants, who as far as I could tell had nothing but contempt for religion, strongly argue that as a purely practical expedient, politicians and the media must stop referring to Muslim terrorism. It was obvious, he said, that the atrocities had nothing to do with Islam, and to suggest otherwise was not merely inaccurate but dangerously counterproductive. Rhetoric is a powerful weapon in any conflict. We cannot hope to convert Osama bin Laden from his vicious ideology; our priority must be to stem the flow of young people into organisations such as al-Qaida, instead of alienating them by routinely coupling their religion with immoral violence. Incorrect statements about Islam have convinced too many in the Muslim world that the west is an implacable enemy. Yet, as we found at the conference, it is not easy to find an alternative for referring to this terrorism; however, the attempt can be a salutary exercise that reveals the complexity of what we are up against. We need a phrase that is more exact than Islamic terror. These acts may be committed by people who call themselves Muslims, but they violate essential Islamic principles. The Qur'an prohibits aggressive warfare, permits war only in self-defence and insists that the true Islamic values are peace, reconciliation and forgiveness. It also states firmly that there must be no coercion in religious matters, and for centuries Islam had a much better record of religious tolerance than Christianity. Like the Bible, the Qur'an has its share of aggressive texts, but like all the great religions, its main thrust is towards kindliness and compassion. Islamic law outlaws war against any country in which Muslims are allowed to practice their religion freely, and forbids the use of fire, the destruction of buildings and the killing of innocent civilians in a military campaign. So although Muslims, like Christians or Jews, have all too often failed to live up to their ideals, it is not because of the religion per se. We rarely, if ever, called the IRA bombings Catholic terrorism because we knew enough to realise that this was not essentially a religious campaign. Indeed, like the Irish republican movement, many fundamentalist movements worldwide are simply new forms of nationalism in a highly unorthodox religious guise. This is obviously the case with Zionist fundamentalism in Israel and the fervently patriotic Christian right in the US. In the Muslim world, too, where the European nationalist ideology has always seemed an alien import, fundamentalisms are often more about a search for social identity and national self-definition than religion. They represent a widespread desire to return to the roots of the culture, before it was invaded and weakened by the colonial powers. Because it is increasingly recognised that the terrorists in no way represent mainstream Islam, some prefer to call them jihadists, but this is not very satisfactory. Extremists and unscrupulous politicians have purloined the word for their own purposes, but the real meaning of jihad is not holy war but struggle or effort. Muslims are commanded to make a massive attempt on all fronts - social, economic, intellectual, ethical and spiritual - to put the will of God into practice. Sometimes a military effort may be a regrettable necessity in order to defend decent values, but an oft-quoted tradition has the Prophet Muhammad saying after a military victory: We are coming back from the Lesser Jihad [ie the battle] and returning to the Greater Jihad - the far more important, difficult and momentous struggle to reform our own society and our own hearts. Jihad is thus a cherished spiritual value that, for most Muslims, has no connection with violence. Last year, at the University of Kentucky, I met a delightful young man called Jihad; his parents had given him that name in the hope that he would become not a holy warrior, but a truly spiritual man who would make the world a better place. The term jihadi terrorism is likely to be offensive, therefore, and will win no hearts or minds. At our conference in Washington, many people favoured Wahhabi terrorism. They pointed out that most of the hijackers on September 11 came from Saudi Arabia, where a peculiarly intolerant form of Islam known as Wahhabism was the state religion. They argued that this description would be popular with those many Muslims who tended to be hostile to the Saudis. I was not happy, however, because even though the narrow, sometimes bigoted vision of Wahhabism makes it a fruitful ground for extremism, the vast majority of Wahhabis do not commit acts of terror. · Karen Armstrong is
