[IslamCity] It's about the Caliphate, stupid!

2005-07-25 Thread mohammed hafeez

It's about the Caliphate, stupid!’
It's the word that politicians dare not publicly mention for several decades in the hope it was dead and buried in 1924. Yet the issue has now emerged explicitly such that it is impossible not to mention it. Earlier this year a CIA think tank predicted the re-emergence of the Caliphate by 2020. Then on Saturday 16th July 2005 Tony Blair made a speech where he gave his definition of what he thinks are the end aims of what he calls the 'evil ideology' of Islamic extremism. ‘They demand the elimination of Israel; the withdrawal of all Westerners from Muslim countries, irrespective of the wishes of people and government; the establishment of effectively Taleban states and Sharia law in the Arab world en route to one caliphate of all Muslim nations.’This has been the most open declaration so far that the War on Terror is a war to prevent the reestablishment of the Khilafah (the Caliphate).
Hitherto, there has only been deceptive language about terrorism, WMD, and 'talebanisation'. Yet he deceives the public because he will not say, and perhaps he has shut his mind to the fact, that the Caliphate is not simply the desire and aspiration of jihadi groups. Ask a Muslim who follows a Sufi Tareeqa if he or she wants to see the re-emergence of Khilafah Rashida and you may see tears of hope in their eyes. Muslims from the so called conservative brands of Islam in the Arabian Peninsula to the 'tiger economy' regions of Malaysia Indonesia dream of the return of Khilafah. To reject this fact is to deny the obvious. Most, simply pray for its return; some try to work for it through existing systems; a small number think that fighting the existing oppressive rule is the way to see it established. But the largest group internationally works by non-violent political work to change the existing system via thought and opinion. We ask all Muslims to express their
positive views for Khilafah to all the people they meet so that a false impression does not get presented to the wider society that somehow Khilafah Rashida is associated with the negative stereotypes Blair hopes to associate with it. To desire Khilafah is not backward, extremist or terrorist. It is the legitimate aspiration of the Muslim world for its own governance, sadly denied and obstructed by western governments and the puppet regimes they create and support. Many non Muslims are beginning to realise the injustice of their own government's foreign policy and we can lead the way in articulating clearer arguments. It is not just about Palestine or Iraq, it is about the right of the Muslim world to govern itself in the way it wants, in a desire to please Allah. We pray all people must send a vocal message to Western colonial governments that their efforts to prevent this will only perpetuate misery, instability and insecurity in the whole world.

[IslamCity] The Muslim Unity March Against Oppression

2005-05-06 Thread mohammed hafeez

The Muslim Unity March Against Oppression

Saturday 30 April 2005 saw an unprecedented co-operation between Muslim groups and personalities attracting thousands of Muslim men, women and children, at relatively short notice. They came to express their unified protest against oppressive anti-terror measures that target Muslims. The march was supported by Stop Political Terror, Islamic Human Rights Commission, Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain, Islamic Party of Britain, Prisoners of west, and dozens of other groups and organisations. The march was addressed by prominent representatives of these organisations, such as Massoud Shadjareh, Dr Imran Waheed, Mustaqim Blehar, and Jahangir Mohammed. In addition the march was addressed by Martin Mubanga and Moazzem Beg, Muslims who were kidnapped, tortured and imprisoned in Guantanamo Bay, and the father of Babar Ahmad, currently fighting extradition to the USA. The speakers addressed the issues of Muslim uniting against such oppression,
supporting families, and campaigning against these injustices. The Muslim community were encouraged to break through the fear of speaking and confronting these issues, and the global nature of the war on terror was addressed, highlighting the abandonment of principle and of their own standard of human rights in fighting this war on Islam. The protesters marched peacefully in a symbol of defiance to the notorious Paddington Green maximum security police station, before dispersing in an orderly manner. For further media details see the following articles:Click Here to View Evening Standard Coverage Click Here to View The

[IslamCity] Poison plot without any poison

2005-04-25 Thread mohammed hafeez

Assalamu Alaikum
"This philosophy was epitomised by Colin Powell, the former US secretary of state, in his dramatic address on Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction programme to the UN Security Council on 5 February 2003, five weeks before the invasion. He articulated, “every statement I make today is backed up by sources, solid sources” He continued about a “sinister nexus between Iraq and the al-Qaida terrorist network” - a series of meaningless, vacuous and ridiculous words. Colin Powell made reference to the “ricin ring”, a citation used to support the assertion that Saddam and Osama were supporting terrorist cells in Europe. This was the incident in which there was said to be traces of ricin, a deadly poison for which there is no antidote, found in a north London flat, which was occupied by Muslim men of North African origin. Although subsequent tests by Porton Down laboratories (historically the world experts in biological warfare) found no trace of ricin on any of
the equipment found in the flat, this did not stop the whole affair being used by the crusaders to gather support from the subjects that they tyrannise, in the US and UK. "

Poison plot without any poison Popular music is filled with poor quality prose of no literary or poetic value. A typical popular song comprises of a series of meaningless, vacuous and ridiculous lyrics strung together in an incoherent fashion. What makes a song popular is the way it is sung. If the delivery has style, passion and feeling the western populace overlook its inconsequentiality. This gloss masks the pernicious issues underlying this form of artistic _expression_. There are many analogies to be drawn here with Western politics. This style over substance approach aids the dissemination of dangerous and erroneous concepts. They believe that if you argue an issue with a skilful and passionate delivery the public will buy it. This philosophy was epitomised by Colin Powell, the former US secretary of state, in his dramatic
address on Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction programme to the UN Security Council on 5 February 2003, five weeks before the invasion. He articulated, “every statement I make today is backed up by sources, solid sources” He continued about a “sinister nexus between Iraq and the al-Qaida terrorist network” - a series of meaningless, vacuous and ridiculous words. This was the incident in which there was said to be traces of ricin, a deadly poison for which there is no antidote, found in a north London flat, which was occupied by Muslim men of North African origin. Although subsequent tests by Porton Down laboratories (historically the world experts in biological warfare) found no trace of ricin on any of the equipment found in the flat, this did not stop the whole affair being used by the crusaders to gather support from the
subjects that they tyrannise, in the US and UK. On 13 April 2005 a London jury refuted yet another section of the case Colin Powell made for war with Iraq. The recent British court verdicts on five defendants, and the dropping of charges against four others, make clear there was no ricin ring. The “ricin ring” did not make any ricin, the “ricin ring” did not have any ricin, and the “ricin ring” was not actually a ring. Colin Powell constructed a convoluted quasi-logical argument associating this “UK poison cell” (that had no poison) with training camps in Afghanistan. The basis of this discussion was that training camps in Afghanistan were the origin of the information on poisons and chemicals that were allegedly in the possession of the accused. This information covered five pages in Arabic, containing amateur instructions for making ricin, cyanide and botulinum. As well as a list of chemicals used in explosives. These scribblings were the mainstay of the court
case. Kamel Bourgass, the sole convicted defendant, had made these notes. His co-defendants believed that he had copied the information from the internet. The prosecution claimed it had come from Afghanistan. It turns out that the recipes and instructions were untested and unoriginal, taken from US sources. Ricin is not and cannot be used as a toxic agent of mass destruction. It has only ever been used for one-on-one killings and attempted killings. It is ineffective as a toxin if placed on car door handles, which was the supposed method of delivery, unless the car victim opens the doors of hundreds of cars with his or her tongue. For ricin to work effectively it must penetrate the skin. Therefore used as a means to wreak terror on London, it would be impotent. It is apparently true that when the team from Porton Down entered the North London flat in January 2003 their field equipment registered

[IslamCity] The Sunnah: The Islamic Way of Life

2005-04-11 Thread mohammed hafeez

" Most Islamic scholars today, when discussing the Ahadith, speak of reviving the Sunnahs and the extraneous deeds, but overlook the words speaking of the “Islamic method for life”. They take the Sunnah in its Fiqhi meaning, or by its technical meaning with the Muhadditheen, and do not link it to its original meaning that ties these two meanings together fundamentally, and around which the Islamic way of life revolves."
Fi Amaan ALLAHYour brother
HAffeez

The Sunnah: The Islamic Way of Life In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful All praise is due to Allah, and peace be on His Prophets and Messengers that He has chosen above the rest of the people. It is said in Lisaan Al-‘Arab: “Sann Al-Shayi’ (the root word of Sunnah)” (linguistically) means to sharpen something and to polish it. And the “Sunnah of Allah” means His laws, His commands and His prohibitions (this is the opinion of Al-Lihyaani). And the meaning of “Sannah Allah Lil Naas” means “Allah has clarified it for the people”. And the meaning of “Sanna Allah Sunnatann” means “Allah has clarified the correct method for something”. Allah (swt) states in the Qur’an “It was
a practice (Sunnah of Allah) approved by Allah amongst those of old who have passed away” [TMQ Al-Ahzaab: 33]. So the words “Sunnat Allah” have been established on the verb implication, thus the verse means “Allah has approved the practice of killing those who were hypocritical with the Prophets and fought them”. And “Sananntuha Sannann” and “Astanantuha”, means “I followed it” and “I have established a path for you to follow, so follow it”. And in the Hadith: “Whoever establishes a good Sunnah (Sanna Sunnatann), then he will have its reward and the reward of those who act upon it, and whoever establishes a bad Sunnah…”, is regarding an action that people can follow. And when a person starts an action and a people acted based on it, it is said about that person: “He is the one who established it (Sannah)”. The word “Sunnah” was mentioned many times in the Ahadith, and the default meaning is “the method and life-path”. And if the word “Sunnah” was used
in an Islamic legislative context, then the meaning of the word is “whatever the Prophet (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wasallam) has commanded, forbade, and recommended in word or action, from what was not mentioned in the Qur’an”. Hence, the terms “Qur’an and Sunnah (Ahadith)” were used as the sources of legislation. And it was mentioned in Al-TaTHheeb: “Al-Sunnah is the praised, guided path”, and therefore it was said “so-and-so is from the Ahl Al-Sunnah”, meaning “so-and-so is from those who follow the praised, guided path”, which is taken from “Al-Sanani” (the path)”. And the saying “Continue on your on Sanan” means “Continue on your intended goal and direction”. And paths have different “Sanan”. So, “The Sanan/Sunnah/Sinnah/Sunutuh of the path” all mean “its tactics”, where it is said “The Sanan and the Sunnah of the path has fooled you” (end) Most Islamic scholars today, when discussing the Ahadith, speak of reviving the Sunnahs and the extraneous deeds,
but overlook the words speaking of the “Islamic method for life”. They take the Sunnah in its Fiqhi meaning, or by its technical meaning with the Muhadditheen, and do not link it to its original meaning that ties these two meanings together fundamentally, and around which the Islamic way of life revolves. The technical meaning of “the Sunnah”, according to the Muhadditheen, is: “What is attributed to the Prophet (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wasallam) of actions, words, silence, physical description, and manners, or was attributed to a Sahabi or a Tabi’ee where there is no possibility of difference of opinion of it. The technical meaning of “the Sunnah”, according to the Fuqahaa, is: “The Mandoob, the Mustahabb, or the Nafila, all of which are defined as: The request of the legislator in a non-decisive (non-obligatory) manner, where the one who does it is rewarded, and the one who does not do it is not punished”. And upon closer inspection, it is clear to see in
the saying of the Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wasallam): “The Shaytan has given up on his being worshipped on your land, but is content to be obeyed in lesser than that, which lower the value of your good deeds. So beware. I have left amongst you that, which if you held on to, you will never go astray: the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet”, it is clear to see that the Qur’an and the Sunnah were revealed to legislate for mankind a specific way of life, for them to measure their actions according to Hukum Shar’iee, i.e. they refer all their words and actions to Allah and His Messenger. In other words, Islam is the legislator in all the actions of mankind. Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) says: “Oh you who believe, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority over you, and if you dispute in any matter, then refer it to Allah and the Messenger, if you truly believe in Allah and the Last

[IslamCity] Ma’al Hijrah – Awwal Muharram Awwal Khilafah[A GOOD READ]

“Awal Muharram, our New Year of the Islamic lunar calendar commemorates the Hijrah – the emigration of the Believers from Makkah to Madinah. Although, prior to the Hijrah they were tortured and slayed in Makkah for their Islam, the Muslims weren’t emigrating to Madinah merely to escape persecution. Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam and the first Muslims were taking a critical strategic step, to establish Daulah Islamiyyah so as to manifest and implement the Deen of Islam and to take the Islamic da’wah to the rest of the world. Daulah Islamiah – the implementation of Islam The whole nature of Islam and the Muslims were transformed. Whereas in Makkah there were only general rules, in Madinah there were detailed systems and rules, implemented and enforced. Whereas in Makkah the kuffar tortured and killed Muslims with impunity, (as the Muslims took no
material action at that time) in contrast within a period of just 4 months of establishing the State, Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam sent out various raiding sorties outside of Madinah - toward the sea-shore in the neighbourhood of Al ‘Is, the valley of Rabigh and Makkah in a show of force, establishing the authority of Islam.”

May ALLAH (swt) guide us on the right path without any deviation and bestow us with the re-establishment of Khilafah Rashida Ameen
Fi Amaan ALLAH
Your brother
Haffeez

Ma’al Hijrah – Awwal Muharram Awwal Khilafah Ma’al Hijrah marks a day of tremendous importance, not only for the Islamic Ummah but also for the whole world. Not only is it the Islamic ‘new year’, it was the beginning of a golden age of justice, learning and civilisation, a new system of life for mankind. Within 10 years, this tiny City State, was to purify the Hijaz from Mushrikeen, overcome the Persians and humble the Roman empires and absorb both into Dar ul Islam. It marks the birth of the world’s first ideological state – Daulah Islamiyyah in Madinat ul Munawwarah. This day now passes almost like any other new years day of any other peoples of the world. Indeed, at this time when the war against Islam (the so called
GWOT) continues unabated, albeit at a more subtle and sinister level - the soft war, to corrupt our hearts and minds and terrify us into submission, it is all the more important that we reflect on the true significance of this day. Awal Muharram, our New Year of the Islamic lunar calendar commemorates the Hijrah – the emigration of the Believers from Makkah to Madinah. Whereas in Makkah there were only general rules, in Madinah there were detailed systems and
rules, implemented and enforced. Whereas in Makkah the kuffar tortured and killed Muslims with impunity, (as the Muslims took no material action at that time) in contrast within a period of just 4 months of establishing the State, Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam sent out various raiding sorties outside of Madinah - toward the sea-shore in the neighbourhood of Al ‘Is, the valley of Rabigh and Makkah in a show of force, establishing the authority of Islam. Even the nature of Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam changed – from that of being a Rasul and leader of his group to a Rasul and ruler, statesmen, judge and Amir ul Jihaad. Whereas previously Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam could only watch as the family of Yasser RA and others were tortured to death, now he would accept no persecution and was preparing the fledgling Islamic State for war. Madinah the first ideological state The significance of Madinah cannot be underestimated. It was the
world’s first ideological state, established on the Aqeedah of Islam. It was not a state based on selfish benefit of one nation or tribe or race or accidents of geography. Nor was it an empire built on enslavement or lies or material greed. Within days of arriving Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam had set out a covenant establishing the rights and responsibilities of ruler and citizens both Muslims and dhimmis. Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam defined the nature of the Islamic Ummah and the Daulah of Islam. The noble covenant of Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam read, “This is a document from Muhammad the Prophet, governing the relations between the Believers and Muslims of Quraish and Yathrib and those who followed them, and joined them and fought alongside them. They are ONE UMMAH TO THE EXCLUSION OF ALL PEOPLE. … To the Jews who follow us belong help and equality. They shall not be wronged, nor shall their enemies be aided.

[IslamCity] An exercise to legitimise occupation

We should not observe this event in isolation. We should take note of what led up to this election, a bloody invasion. The US imposed a government on Iraq last spring, and now dictates the conditions and procedures for a phoney election. This poll is a mere exercise, dictated by the crusaders to legitimise their occupation. We should be suspicious. We should not be naive enough to participate in this Bush-Blair international publicity stunt. An exercise to legitimise occupation President Bush referred to the Iraqi elections as “a grand moment in Iraqi history”. He also said that the “advent of democracy in Iraq will serve as a powerful example to reformers throughout the entire Middle East. Freedom is on the march, and the world is better for it.” This statement epitomises GW Bush’s warped view of reality. What kind of an election takes place under such insane circumstances? The capital city was a ghost town, people stocked up on food just as they did before the invasion. Borders were sealed, curfews were extended to cover from 7pm to 6am and travel was banned between provinces and within cities. Iraqis couldn’t use their own private vehicles yet “freedom is on the march”. The candidates were unable to appear in public, election workers were driven into hiding, and
foreign monitors were forced to monitor from a nearby country. Surely this type of election is without precedent anywhere in the world. We should not observe this event in isolation. We should take note of what led up to this election, a bloody invasion. The US imposed a government on Iraq last spring, and now dictates the conditions and procedures for a phoney election. The only issue they can now present is that they went to war in order to free the Iraqi people from a tyrant and enable the people to bring about a government of their choosing, despite the fact that every regime of the region is
tyrannical. This threadbare reason is all they can cling to now. The violence that has swept Iraq this weekend is nothing new. The whole region has been a blood bath ever since the invasion. Prior to that it was a famished nation, starved by sanctions and bombing. The violence has been blamed on Muslim militants and old Baathist loyalist. These pigeonholes are bogeymen that are blamed for all the killing, but the fact of the matter is that the country is under illegal military occupation. The US-led coalition took the country by violent means, they then brutalised the citizens, humiliated the innocent, refused to even count the corpses they created and now they hold divisive elections, which are designed only to further exacerbate sectarian differences. These elections will do nothing to unite the peoples of this area. They say that these are the first free and fair elections for a generation. But how can an authority that came in through unfair means, and with underhanded
intentions ever be able to discuss the rights and wrongs of elections. The pre election US-installed government was illegitimate, not dissimilar to the post election government. From our point of view the Baathist government of Saddam was also illegitimate, as was that of General al-Bakr and all the way back to King Faisal and the British protectorate before that. None of these corrupt authorities ever truly united the people of the provinces of Mosul, Baghdad and Basra. Why should things be any different now? It is not only Bush who is out of touch with reality. Kofi Annan also addressed the issue of elections: “Whatever your feelings about how the country reached this point, this election offers an opportunity to move away from violence and uncertainty toward peace and representative government.” The point is that the world came to this juncture through extreme violence, the 2003 invasion. Violence begets violence. No matter how much the UN, UK and US pat each

“THIS IS A CLEAR MESSAGE FOR MANKIND IN ORDER THAT THEY MAY BEWARNED..." [14:52] Bismillahi Al-Rahman Al-Raheem Once the Iraqi forces had entered Kuwait the arrogant savagery of the Americans showed its face, and the US went insane. It moved as if crazed. Bush initiated meeting after meeting with his administration, civil authorities and military in order to formulate its dastardly plans to enable America to intervene and attack Iraq and to impose complete American hegemony over the Gulf. America then undertook financial and economical measures to attack and to enforce an embargo. It mobilized its airforce and navy. Bush contacted the Presidents and other world leaders to incite them against Iraq so that they all became participants with him in his attack. He forced the Security Council to take the sternest of decisions to bind all the countries in boycotting
Iraq financially and economically. He also forced a blockade which prevents Iraq from exporting its products and being supplied with arms and consumer goods. It is America who has escalated the situation and aggravated matters, fabricating stories in a savage manner so as to justify her military attack on Iraq. It took bases for its airforce, navy and army from the Saudi land and the Gulf, from where its military operations set out.America makes these savage manoeuvres and interventions on the pretext of maintaining international law, protecting friends and ensuring the safety of world oil supplies and protecting American national security and interests. What is this international law which America claims to protect? Where was this international law when Britain invaded the Falkland Islands? And where was America when Israel invaded Lebanon and occupied its capital Beirut ? And more to the point, where was the American protection for international law when she
herself with her own feet marched upon and occupied Grenada, occupied Panama and heated up Libya with bombs to kill Qaddafi? Were all these manoeuvres according to international law? The American and Western convictions do not extend to the observance of international law except when it suits their interests. And Americas understanding is that what agrees with her interests conforms to international law and what conflicts with her interests contradicts international law. Look how often America utilizes international law and the international organizations to achieve her ambitions and to serve her special interests.O Muslims !Iraq, Kuwait and the Gulf are all Islamic lands and their inhabitants are muslims. They are not American or English lands which allow America and Britain to intervene in their affairs and solve their problems. The wealth of these countries is the property of their Muslim people and is not for America, Britain or any other state in the west
or the east, so that America or Britain can intervene as a pretext for their protection. The right of disposal of these resources is for their muslim people. The protection of these resources is a duty upon their muslim people not upon America nor Britain. These countries are not a farm or factory for America or Britain. The farms and factories of the Americans and their security are in America and the farms of the English are in Britain. Therefore their savage intervention is considered an aggression against Muslims and their lands which must be repelled. It is an intervention in the private affairs of the Muslims which is rejected by and unacceptable to Islam.Only Muslims are responsible for their lands and for solving its problems and for its protection, security and caring for its affairs. The settling of all their issues must remain in their hands and in accordance with the law of Islam. They are not allowed at all to put their issues in the hands of others,
whether these others are the Security Council, the United Nations or the International Court of Justice - which are all now in the hands of the America and the Super Powers who utilize them to implement their policies and to achieve their private interests. Muslims cannot put their affairs in the hands of any state, whether this state was one of the infidel colonialists or has ambitions in the muslims lands, such as America, Britain, France and Russia - nor those who do not have ambitions in the Muslim lands, such as Sweden and Switzerland.O Muslims !Putting the Muslim affairs in the hands of others to resolve the issues is a means of giving authority and power to those disbelievers over muslims. Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala has prohibited muslims giving the disbelievers an authority and power upon muslims. He said “Allah will never allow the disbelievers to have authority upon the believers.” (an-Nisa 141). Also, that means which leads to Haram is prohibited in
Islam.Further, Muslims are not allowed to put their affairs in the hands of the disbelievers so they can be solved by them for the Muslims. They are also not allowed to seek the disbelievers help or support or to

Shocking Pictures of Iraqi Abuse Revealed
http://channels.aolsvc.co.uk/news/article.adp?id=20050119023109990005

Lance Corporal Darren Larkin is pictured standing on an Iraqi detainee

Shocking pictures of British soldiers abusing Iraqi civilians have been shown to a court martial.
The trial in Osnabruck, Germany, is due to hear evidence from a British Army major who unlawfully ordered his soldiers to punish Iraqi civilians by "working them hard''.
Major Dan Taylor, of 1st Battalion, the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, has been called as a witness at the court martial of three of his soldiers who are accused of abusing the Iraqis.
Lance Corporal Mark Cooley, 25, from Newcastle upon Tyne, and Corporal Daniel Kenyon, 33, pleaded not guilty to the charges at their trial, taking place at a British Army court martial centre.
Lance Corporal Darren Larkin, 30, from Oldham, Greater Manchester, admitted one charge of assaulting an unknown male at the camp, but denied another charge of forcing two Iraqi males to undress in front of others.

Lance Corporal Mark Cooley is seen simulating a punch to an Iraqi detainee

The images revealed yesterday include naked Iraqi prisoners simulating sex acts, British soldiers pretending to punch and kick bound men and a prisoner - grimacing with fear - tied to the raised forks of a forklift truck.
The photographs were taken in May 2003 at a humanitarian aid camp known as Camp Bread Basket, near Basra, just weeks after Saddam Hussein's regime was ousted by coalition troops.
Lieutenant-Colonel Nick Clapham, prosecuting, revealed the camp's commander, Major Taylor, had ordered that looters should be "worked hard'' - an order Col Clapham said was a breach of the Geneva Convention.
The court heard Major Taylor had outlined his plan - codenamed Operation Ali Baba, a reference to the folk tale of Ali Baba And The 40 Thieves - to his commanding officer, Lieutenant-Colonel David Paterson, who approved it.
More than 100 British soldiers - split into groups of four to six - were involved in the unlawful operation. A number of looters were captured and forced to carry back the aid they had stolen, the court heard.

Lance Corporal Mark Cooley is shown driving a forklift truck with an Iraqi detainee bound to it

They were then broken down into groups and distributed between the servicemen to be "worked hard'' by carrying out menial tasks at the camp.
A section run by Cpl Kenyon was given three or four Iraqis to detain and work. A short time later the scenes of shocking abuse depicted in the photographs occurred.
The court was shown 22 photographs taken from the cameras of five servicemen depicting the abuse of the Iraqi prisoners.
Among them are photos of two naked Iraqi men simulating sex. In another, L/Cpl Larkin is seen wearing his boxer shorts and flip flops while standing on a bound Iraqi prisoner.
William England, representing L/Cpl Larkin, said his client was ashamed of the offence, to which he had pleaded guilty.

Cpl Kenyon faces six charges in total, including two of aiding and abetting a person to force two naked males being detained by British troops to simulate a sex act.
L/Cpl Cooley faces three charges, including tying an unknown male prisoner to a forklift truck as well as simulating punching and kicking another unknown male also being detained by the Army.
The three soldiers, who are stationed at a British Army base in Celle, Germany, are being tried before Judge Advocate Michael Hunter and a panel of seven British officers.
All the charges are alleged to have taken place on or around May 15, 2003. If found guilty, the soldiers could be jailed and discharged from the Army.

[IslamCity] Audio: Problem of evil....TSUNAMI

2005-01-13 Thread mohammed hafeez

Audio: Problem of evil One of the most influential and powerful "proofs" that there is no God proceeds from "The Problem from Evil." Atheists argue thus: If God can prevent evil, but doesn't, then He isn't all-loving. If God intends to prevent evil, but cannot, then He isn't omnipotent. If God both intends to prevent evil and is capable of doing so, then how can evil exist? We are living in a time when we are constantly being told that humans have produced the capability to kill at will and on a mass scale. Wars have been fought using such weapons. Wars have been fought, both hot ones and cold ones, in the name of such weapons. There is a belief held by many that the annihilation of humankind could happen at any moment and at the hand of a man. September 11 2001 saw thousands of people wiped out at a stroke. This was the result of human actions and
not so called natural phenomena. The Indian Ocean tsunami of 26 December 20004 servers as a reminder to us all of just how devastating natural phenomena can be. Occurrence of this kind often pushes us to think deeply about our predicament as human beings. The 1755 Lisbon earthquake compelled the French philosopher Voltaire to question the nature of a god that would allow such an occurrence to happen. The priests of Lisbon however had few questions. It was clear to them that it was a punishment from god. Instead of turning their attentions to the 50,000 that died in the quake, they proceeded to salvage crucifixes and religious icons from the collapsing buildings. This was to ward of more catastrophes. Heretics were later hanged after the quake. Immanuel Kant was so disturbed by the Lisbon earthquake that he wrote three separate treatise on the issue of earthquakes. Atheist commentators have recently referred to the deaths in south Asia as evidence that a god could not
exist. They forwarded the assertion that a god that would allow thousands of innocent people to die, either is very evil or doesn’t exist. The three main argument put forward in Western philosophy, supporting the idea that a god exists are usually given the labels; the cosmological, the teleological and the ontological arguments. This being discussed by St. Thomas Aquinas, Augustine and Anselm. To discuss the Islamic perspective Salim Fredericks, Dr Jamalidin and Jamal Harwood examine the weakness in the Christian arguments and how we should tackle the subject in relation to the South Asian earthquake.

[IslamCity] British and US Tsunami Aid Snubbed

2005-01-08 Thread mohammed hafeez

Assalamu Alaikum

How nice and generous of Mr Bush to send 1300+ troops to Sri Lanka to help them in this tough times. He is a GOD fearing and peace loving Christian. How arrogant are these countries who have snubbed US troops who have come to aid them [may be they are linked with Al Qaida too]
“US is a very generous country” says Bush. Even thought they spend 100 billion on occupying Iraq and Afghanistan they still have a big heart to give 80 million in aid to the Countries hit by the Tsunami. God bless USA

British and US Tsunami Aid Snubbed

The Gurkha troops could have been deployed to help with life-saving disaster relief

Indonesia has snubbed Britain's offer of 120 crack Gurkha troops who were to help with life-saving disaster relief.
The decision follows a similar move in Sri Lanka where US military aid was turned down yesterday.
Both refusals significantly step up the politicisation of relief efforts and threaten to the hamper life-saving work of the biggest humanitarian operation the world has ever seen.
The Indonesian government claimed the 120 highly trained soldiers were not vital to relief work, while Tamil Tiger rebels in politically divided Sri Lanka claimed a force of 1,300 US troops would act as spies on the disaster-ravaged nation.
Both British and American troops had hoped to help relief work by clearing roads and building shelters for tens of thousands of tsunami victims.
This afternoon a Ministry of Defence (MoD) spokesman said discussions were continuing on whether Indonesia would accept two Bell helicopters, which would have accompanied the soldiers from their base in Brunei.
The decision to deploy the troops from the 2nd Battalion Royal Gurkha Rifles was taken at a meeting of the Government's South-East Asia emergency committee, chaired for the first time by Prime Minister Tony Blair.
The MoD spokesman said: "The offer was made and they have made an assessment of what they can use and what they need.
"They have accepted the idea of the two helicopters, but given the number of infantry soldiers already in the region, they felt further ground troops weren't required.
"We are now discussing the helicopters with them and those discussions are still going on."
In Sri Lanka Tamil leader Nallathamby Srikantha said: "The attempt by American (and Indian) troops to land in Sri Lanka is totally based on their political and military interests.
"They may try to collect details to help the government crush the Tamil national struggle in a future conflict."
The USS Bonhomme, where the troops were based, is expected to be redirected to Sumatra.

[IslamCity] In death, imperialism lives on [tsunami]

2005-01-03 Thread mohammed hafeez

In death, imperialism lives on

For the western media, it is clear that a tourist's tragedy is more important than that of the 'locals' Jeremy SeabrookFriday December 31, 2004The number of fishing boats from Sumatra, Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu at sea when the Boxing Day tsunami hit will never be known. There is scarcely any population tally of the crowded coasts. Nameless people are consigned to unmarked graves; in mosques and temples, makeshift mortuaries, people pull aside a cloth, a piece of sacking, to see if those they loved lie beneath. As in all natural disasters, the victims are overwhelmingly the poorest. This time there was something different. The tsunami struck resorts where westerners were on holiday. For the western media, it was clear that their lives have a different order of importance from those that have died in thousands, but have no known biography, and, apparently, no intelligible tongue in which to express their
feelings. This is not to diminish the trauma of loss of life, whether of tourist or fisherman. But when we distinguish between "locals" who have died and westerners, "locals" all too easily becomes a euphemism for what were once referred to as natives. Whatever tourism's merits, it risks reinforcing the imperial sensibility. For this sensibility has already been reawakened by all the human-made, preventable catastrophes. The ruins of Galle and Bandar Aceh called forth images of Falluja, Mosul and Gaza. Imperial powers, it seems, anticipate the destructive capacity of nature. A report on ITN news made this explicit, by referring to "nature's shock and awe". But while the tsunami death toll rises in anonymous thousands, in Iraq disdainful American authorities don't do body counts. One of the most poignant sights of the past few days was that of westerners overcome with gratitude that they had been helped by the grace and mercy of those who had lost everything, but still
regarded them as guests. When these same people appear in the west, they become the interloper, the unwanted migrant, the asylum seeker, who should go back to where they belong. A globalisation that permits the wealthy to pass effortlessly through borders confines the poor to eroded subsistence, overfished waters and an impoverishment that seems to have no end. People rarely say that poor countries are swamped by visitors, even though their money power pre-empts the best produce, the clean water and amenities unknown to the indigenous population. In death, there should be no hierarchy. But even as Sri Lankans wandered in numb disbelief through the corpses, British TV viewers were being warned that scenes they were about to witness might distress them. Poor people have no consoling elsewhere to which they can be repatriated. The annals of the poor remain short and simple, and can be effaced without inquiry as to how they contrive an existence on these fragile coasts. What are
the daily visitations of grief and loss in places where people earn less in a year than the price that privilege pays for a night's stay in a five-star hotel? Western governments, which can disburse so lavishly in the art of war, offer a few million as if it were exceptional largesse. Fortunately the people are wiser; and the spontaneous outpourings of humanity have been as unstoppable as the waves that broke on south Asia's coasts; donations rapidly exceeded the amount offered by government. Selflessness and sacrifice, people working away at rubble with bare hands, suggest immediate human solidarities. But these are undermined by the structures of inequality. Promises solemnly made at times of immediate sorrow are overtaken by other urgencies; money donated for the Orissa cyclone, for hurricane Mitch in Central America, the floods in Bangladesh, the Bam earthquake - as for the reconstruction of Afghanistan and Iraq - turns out to be a fraction of what is pledged.
 Such events remind us of the sameness of our human destiny, the fragility of our existence. They place in perspective the meaning of security. Life is always at the mercy of nature - whether from such overwhelming events as this, or the natural processes that exempt no one from paying back to earth the life it gave us. Yet we inhabit systems of social and economic injustice that exacerbate the insecurity of the poor, while the west is prepared to lay waste distant towns and cities in the name of a security that, in the end, eludes us all. Assertions of our common humanity occur only at times of great loss. To retrieve and hold on to it at all other times - that would be something of worth to salvage from these scenes of desolation. Truly, your Lord knows best who has gone astray from His Path, and He is the Best Aware of those who are guided.}
(Holy Quran-16:125)

{And who is better in speech than he who [says: My Lord is Allah (believes in His Oneness), and then stands straight (acts upon His Order), and] invites (men) to Allah's (Islamic Monotheism), and does righteous deeds, and says: I am one of the Muslims.} (Holy Quran-41:33)

The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: By Allah, if Allah guides one person by you, it is better for you than the best types of camels. [al-Bukhaaree, Muslim]

The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also said, Whoever calls to guidance will have a reward similar to the reward of the one who follows him, without the reward of either of them being lessened at all.

Respected Brother/Sister in Islam

Assalamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullaahi Wa Barakatuhu

The phenomenal pace with which technology has advanced makes it possible for a person to communicate with thousands of people in a matter of seconds. The simple press of a button enables one to e-mail information to the furthest corner of the globe.
Although electronic mail has made light work of communication, due to its easy accessibility it has potential for great benefit and equally great harm. We often witness how false and dubious e-mails are circulated to hundreds of mailing lists wreaking confusion and uncertainty in the minds of the recipients.
As Muslims we are required to be cautious about the information we disseminate. We learn from several Ahadith that the person who indicates towards an evil is like the one who has perpetrated it. Similarly a person who initiates an evil deed will bear the burden of all those who are mislead by it.
It is therefore imperative that one verifies the information received before accepting and acting upon it. Caution should be exercised in transmitting it to others. It is also incumbent that before sending the information or news to anyone else the information is thoroughly checked and verified by a reputable authority. It is always safer to trace the initial source of the information and communicate with the original sender before disseminating the information.Experience has proven that all sorts of bogus and unauthentic material floats around by e-mail. By blindly sending this false or bogus information to others one will unnecessarily be earning the sin for propagating falsehood.
A simple rule would be to delete whatever seems to be suspicious or bogus. In this way a person is sure not to be deceived or misinformed and will also be saved from misguiding others.

Caution: There is Another anti-Islamic Site There

Why issuing an alert letter is precisely the wrong thing to do?The alert letters keep coming. Beware here is the latest anti-Islamic site. Then a URL so you can verify that it is indeed as described. Then a passionate request to tell all the Muslims in the world about it.Sincere. Misguided. Counter-productive.Little do the senders realize that they are actually helping the very sites they are trying to fight. The failure is in realizing that the Internet is a very different medium and the rules that applied to the previous media do not always apply here. If there is a bad magazine or book out there, you can tell others about it. We can be sure that nobody will rush to the closest bookseller to buy it. The warning may be useful, if there was a chance that some people could have bought
the book out of ignorance. In the click-click world of the Internet, the first thing most people will do is to click on the URL, thereby increasing the hit counts and boasting the morale of the site owners. Second, it will help it with search engine placement, as some of them will use the increased curiosity traffic as a sign of popularity. You just helped create the monster you wanted to fight! It is common sense. If you don't want people to visit a site, just don't tell them about it.It is very easy to setup a page on the Internet. It is very difficult to draw traffic to it. The most anti-Islamic site will die if it faces a frozen counter. That would happen if you just leave it alone. But if you are out there telling everyone about it and asking them to do the same, you are in effect volunteering as their publicity department. That is exactly what they need.If there is a well-established site (like CNN) it makes sense to launch a protest campaign. But
for most of the sites the prudent course is just the opposite. Leave it alone. Let it die of neglect. A natural death. The greater the lack of attention, the faster will be the death of this would be monster. So the next time you receive an alert letter about an anti-Islamic site, just delete it. If you respond to the sender, do not include the original text of his alert email, because even that may help some search engine ranking. There were dozens of anti-Islamic sites that sprang up recently but died soon after because, luckily, our enthusiasts had not noticed them and had not publicized them through their alert letters. The ones that receive the alert letter mention will, unfortunately, survive and may thrive. On the Internet, the best use of your energies is to promote the good Islamic sites. Let the good drive out the evil. Now, may we request that you send this article to all your friends?By: Khalid Baig Al-Balagh

MER FLASHBACK - 27 Nov 1997:
9/11 WAS VERY FORESEEABLE"There are many menaces loose in today's world. Among them is the American military-industrial complex which dominates American society, manipulates its press, controls its political parties, frightens its intellectuals -- the very tyranny of power that none other than World War II hero turned President Dwight Eisenhower used his
last breathes to warn so eloquently about.""The American-hyped road signs all proclaim "Peace Process" and "Democracy", "Freedom" and "Progress". But this U.S./Israeli-created road actually leads to more terrorism, more warfare, more armaments; more repression, more duplicity, more hatred; more exploitation, more domination, and more control."
MIDDLEEAST.ORG - MER - Washington - 2 December 2004: What has happened in recent years, indeed what happened on 9/11 and then it's aftermath, were in general quite foreseeable, no matter how much official Washington keeps pretending otherwise. The aggressive, imperialistic, self-righteous, deceptive, and oh-so-arrogant policies of the United States and Israel were at work for decades provoking and creating a kind of historical blowback that the whole world is now forced to live with. The following MER Editorial was published on Thanksgiving day in November
 1997.

MER Editorial - America The Brutal, The Ugly
" T H E C A P I T A L O F G L O B A L A R R O G A N C E "
MER - MiddleEast.Org - Washington - 27 November 1997:
It's not the American self-image, that's for sure. But much of the rest of the world, especially the most oppressed, see contemporary America through far different visions than today's modern-day Romans see themselves.
Even in that bastion of American and Israeli influence, the New York Times, Foreign Affairs writer Thomas Friedman recently warned of "Backlash":
"Do you know what Iran calls America today? Not 'the Great Satan.' Iran calls America 'the Capital of Global Arrogance.' Unfortunately that's also what the French, the Malaysians, the Russians, the Chinese, the Japanese and the Germans call Washington behind its back."
Actually its far worse than Friedman and the NY Times are willing to even consider publishing... for this is just the proverbial tip of the iceberg. Hence, the following MER Editorial which you'll never see on the pages of the NY Times or other American newspapers:
M E R E D I T O R I A L:

 A M E R I C A T H E B R U T A L , A M E R I C A T H E U G L Y
Once again the American Empire prepares for "battle." It does so against a puny enemy; but one it vilifies and magnifies many times over endlessly "preparing" public opinion for the Empire's next round of "enforcement" in the name of "peace" and "order". It does so with technological super weaponry unmatchable by the poor, the weak, the oppressed... other than through what it terms "terrorism" that is.
This is the same country that slaughtered millions of Vietnamese (plus less directly millions of Cambodians and Laotians as well) after its President tricked its Congress into the Gulf of Tonkin resolution.
And then a generation later its top warrior of the former day (Defense Secretary Robert McNamara) "apologized" for having made a "terrible mistake" (but noted only the 50,000 Americans killed, not the millions of other non-Americans who perished because of America's "terrible mistake").
This is the same country that used the first nuclear weapons of mass destruction not on military targets, but on civilian cities. And now today, along with ally Israel, this is the same country that threatens to use them again in the Middle East, thus fueling the very arms race it claims to be halting.
This is the same country that sells more arms internationally than all others, yet insists on sanctions against those who sell a few inferior weapons to "unapproved" locations.
This is the same country that single-handedly, against the opposition of all others, dismisses U.N. Secretary-Generals; issues its "orders" far and wide; and doesn't even pay its U.N. dues preferring threats and blackmail to gets its way. Amazing indeed that the rest of the world continues to allow this demeaning situation to continue; but bribery and threats always have gone a long way when Rome thunders.
And, finally for now, this is the same country that stands alone in the world championing Israeli militancy, camouflaging Israeli ethnic-cleansing policies, covering-up terrible Israeli attacks on U.N. safe-havens, constantly excusing Israeli gross violations of human rights against those who simply ask to be accorded the same rights that the Americans themselves constantly proclaim!
There are many menaces loose in today's world. Among them is the American military-industrial complex which dominates American society, manipulates its press, controls its political parties, frightens its intellectuals -- the very tyranny of power that none other than World War II hero turned President Dwight Eisenhower used his last breathes
