[jasperreports-questions] Bar chart ranges help
Hi there, I am trying to create a percentage-based bar chart. The values should have a minimum of 0 and a maximum of 100. My data however, does not have a value which equals 100, so Jasper automatically scales the chart to the maximum value of my data. The result is, for a category with a value of 1%, the bar value for that category appears to be 100%, because it is the largest value in the whole dataset. How do I specify the ranges so that my data is always measured against the maximum 100%? I noticed that there was a parameter called Range axis min value expression and Range axis max value expression for the bar chart, but every time I tried to set them to 0 and 100 respectively, it failed to compile. [jasperreports-questions] Problem with chart created from beanCollection data source
Hi I have a report that includes a 3D bar chart which worked fine with SQL data source. Now I have changed it to use a list of Beans. The chart display with the correct bar heights but the x and y labels are missing. I have tried turning all fields into variables and changing the evaluate At properties and shortening the names, none of which seem to make a difference. The bar heights correspond to the Variable PERCENTAGE so I know the values are being populated it just the fields used for the category names don't show and the scale with the numbers on. The only thing I can see that may be causing this problem is that I group the data in the report and I also have some print when expressions. Can anyone help, I am about to throw the towel in on this one, this project is well overdue and I have been stuck at this point for the last 3 days. I will try and upload the files in a new post. The jasperforge site (jasperforge.org) gives a 403 forbidden and a maintenance message. Is anybody working on it? Does anybody know when it will be fixed? A colleague just approached me to ask if it is OK to use it. Hello, There was work in progress for about 7 to 8 hours during April 20, when a migration to an upgraded system was made. An announcement should have been present on the main page, but not sure why the forbidden message got in front. In any case, the work is over and everything should be in place now. [jasperreports-questions] Fit Page or the Fit Width buttons in jasper viewer does not function properly
After generating a report, change the settings in the JasperViewer window by selecting the Fit Page or the Fit Widthbuttons at the top. Select the Printer Icon in the JasperViewer and print. The report does not fit to page while getting printed. [jasperreports-questions] Printing of reports from jasper viewer shows missing fields
I tried to print the jasper report from the print option in jasper viewer.The size of the jasper viewer was larger than A4 size. Hi friends, I am generating text file using jasper reports 1.3.3 version.I am able to generate text file but I am getting spaces(new empty lines) in between in the detail band that too randomly( at random locations).Here is the code I used to generate the text file: JRTextExporter textExporter = new JRTextExporter(); textExporter.setParameter( JRExporterParameter.JASPER_PRINT,print1); textExporter.setParameter( JRExporterParameter.OUTPUT_FILE_NAME,dirPath.trim()+Generate.txt); textExporter.setParameter( JRTextExporterParameter.PAGE_WIDTH,new Integer(113)); textExporter.setParameter(JRTextExporterParameter.PAGE_HEIGHT, new Integer(113)); textExporter.exportReport(); I used the same jrxml to generate pdf file.There are no spaces(no new empty lines) in between the detail band. [jasperreports-questions] Another question regarding page break, need help!
Hi all, I have a master report containing subreport area in detail band. Now, I'd like to make it that a subreport is printed in a new page, ONLY WHEN it doesn't fit in the current page, but otherwise it should be printed in the same page as the previous subreport content. i.e a subreport could be only a small table containing one line, but could also be a large table with more than one lines. Hi, Did you try the option of using XML DataSource via IReport ? I think you would need to use XML DataSource. Need to use XPath to identify your dataset ie XPath expression for the nodes selection. [jasperreports-questions] Defining one style for different fields, how should the constraint look like?
Hi all,
I just started using JR for an application, and I'd like to define one style
for different fields, that contains constraints.
As far as I know, I have to write down the field name as part of the
constraint;
e.g new Boolean($F{h4p1}.equals(I)) -- than use background colour green
but that means, if I'd like to use the same style for all fields, I have to
create style for each field, with constraints that vary basically only in
the name of field using as constraint, and I have a lot of this fields
Is it possible to use kind of wildcards in the constraint?

I have 'Split Allowed' unchecked and I have 'Print when detail overflows' checked for all my detail fields. [jasperreports-questions] html and A4
Hi all, I seems like the HTML output that Jasper produces doesn't exactly fits on A4 page. I checked it with the demo supplied in: demo/samples/table. I enlarged the number of rows on the report to span over several pages, then produced HTML report. When printing the result using both FireFox and Explorer after few pages the data was not synced with page. Is there any way of correcting this? Is it printer calibration issue? Kindly help me with solutions/utilities that facilitates exporting a jasper generated report to the PPT format. The solution needs to support the Master Slide feature of Power Point presentations, in which one should be able to specify a pre-defined template, specifying the Title Area, Test Area, Footer and a specified color scheme. [jasperreports-questions] How to change the grid line color of a chart?
Hi, I've just changed my library from version 2.0.5 to 3.1.3 and all the grid lines of my charts have been disappeared. Actually they are still there but i guess the default color of the grid lines has been set to white. Thus, as the bg color of my charts is also white, they became invisible. In the previous version, the default color was black. I've googled a lot about this but i didn't find a way to change the gridline color via the jrxml file. The only way that i've found is to do it by setDomainGridLinePaint method of the Plot. I can use 100 different query to form 100 different data source and fill it and then i can generate is 100 different type of html report . But my problem is in jrxml file we have maintain dynamic field name= class=java.lang.Integer/ to view the reports. Hello,
I am a newbie to Java. I'm trying to generate reports with jasper in
netbeans 6.1.
My code given below, runs well in Java desktop application but in jsp it
does not give any error
and simply render the html but no report shows up (not even empty) nor any
error message.
I know i'm missing a very simple and stupid step but does not know what.
Can somebody help me with Java code and explain why does it work in java
desktop application but not in JSP?

i have for example, a column with values XX_XX, YY_YY, GG_TTY and many more
and in the message property file i have
report.XX_XX =xx
report.YY_YY=yy
etc...
so in the report i want to display for example xx when the the field value
= XX_XX. so i want to write in the report template something like
$R{report. + $F{XX_XX}} but this produces so many runtime errors
please give me your ideas.

[jasperreports-questions] Run jasper reports on automated schedule
We are running Jasper Reports (it is integrated into another product named Hyperic HQ Server). We have created 30 Jasper reports and we run them via the web interface. We need to somehow automate these reports so they run on a scheduled basis with several report arguments (datestarted, dateend, etc). We are not sure if we need to upgrade to a higher level of Jasper Reports. Or maybe there is a backend way to run the reports automatically form linux command line. Can somebody please tell us how to do this? [jasperreports-questions] Alternate table rendering
Hi there, I have looked through the jasperreports forums but cannot find anything similar to this. I have see some post about dynamically generating the report based on the dataset, but I am a little pressured for time to try something like that. I need to generate csv, but instead of having the headings in their own column the business want them listed underneath each other. IE: 2008-01-012008-01-02 Payin Total: 111.33 81.00 Payout Total: 1000.00 2500.00 Fees: 40.00 11.23 There date column are not limited to a specific range. I am not sure how to accomplish this without a hack. You pull the data using a stored procedure and get the List of data with Beans and feed that into the JasperReports engine and have it create a report file (say pdf) with a datatime stamp in some folder. Now you can set this java program as a simple scheduled job in linux to run at specified intervals. Hope this helps! Regarding the subreports what I do is compile them individually and standalone reports and place the .jasper files along with the main report .jasper file and pass the parameter SUBREPORT_DIR to the main report In the subreportExpression tag you use this. I am not sure whether this would work..Please try the below steps
Lets say you have the column 3 as the field that needs to be printed as blue
bold when the condition is true or else printed as normal black font
a) Create two new TextField that displays the column3 value.
b) for the first textfield include the necessary expression to display it as
blue bold (Follow the same step that you had done previously)
c) For the second textfield, dont include the condition, but make sure it is
normal black font
d) place both textfields one after another (Superimpose it in the report)
Try running the report now and see if it works.
If you dont mind could you let me know if it worked for you or not? I am just
curious

When I compile or execute the report, it shows a problem but the report executes (and correctly run the scriptlet). I'm trying to run the bellow query through Jasper reports. The report ask
for two input paramters (startDate and endDate), so, I added two control

But the problem is, whenever I'm running the same query with some date

[jasperreports-questions] Looping through child elements in XMLDataSource
Hi All, I am generating a report from an XML document using JRXmlDataSource. I have specified the XPath in the field description to render the values on the report. All this seems to work fine, but when a node has more than one child, the fields for only the first node are generated. It seems like JasperReports will not iterate through all the child elements of a node. Has anyone had any similar experiences or do you have a solution? Below is an example of the fields I am using.. Hi! net.sf.jasperreports.engine.design.JasperDesign have setters for margins like setTopMargin(arg0). This is cool if you are loading the report from XML... I create net.sf.jasperreports.engine.JasperReport object with JRLoader.loadObject(inputStream) and the problem is that there is no way to get JasperDesign from JasperReport object to set margin. We are facing a problem while using Page break in Jasper Reports. we are having a main report which calls the Subreport and the subreport is having a table and 5 more sub reports. we are passing a arraylist to the main report.The arraylist contains the Vo's for the reord selected from the user.The VO contains values for the fields in the sub report and other 5 sub repports in the sub report. The main report will call the sub report for each vo in the arraylist. We need each record to be displayed in separate pages in the same PDF. There are cases that the 5 subReports in the sub report won't be displayed only the table in the sub report will be displayed. We need each record to be displayed in separate pages regardless of whether the sub report contains other 5 sub reports. We tried to put a page break after each record so that the next record comes in separate page but we got an exception element type 'break' must be declared. Please help us to solve this issue. You can call a Jasper iReport from another iReport using hyperlink.
In the hyperlink section you should set hyperlink type=reference
and in Hyperlink reference expression call another servlet using the code

[jasperreports-questions] New to Jasper: Need help with multi-page reports
Hi all, Glad to have found a forum for Jasper reports. I want to design a 2-3 page report. I have found many examples where multiple page reports are mere continuations of page 1. For instance, if we were reporting on number of sales for an item, it is likely that not all of the information would fit on a single page. So, the examples I am seeing just repeat the same header, and fill in the remainder using the details tag. However, this is not what I am trying to do. I have a heading, such as a company name/address, etc that I want to display on each page, but the actual data, and therefore column headings will vary between pages. I was thinking of creating a main page that called subsequent xml files in order to generate the pages I want, however, I am uncertain as to how to do this. There is a CheckBox in the Properties of the Textfield (Tab Text Field) called Stretch with overflow, you have to select this check and then the textfield will grow according to the data. The Textfield must be in detail band or ina a group band. It takes too much time for the reports to load is what i experienced. I wrote 2 java files to develop a report. In the first report i designed the .jrxml file using iReport. All the fields were made in the design time. A db connection was made and a simple 'Select' query was executed. What i noticed is that the ' JasperCompileManager.compileReport(design); ' takes some time to compile. It took 5 seconds to compile. 2 secs to fill the report and 2 secs to view. So in all it took more than 9 secs for the report to appear on the screen. I feel 9 secs is too slow for a report as simple as this to generate. In the second report i took a blank .jrxml file without any fields. Using the jasperreports api i designed all the fields at run-time. I declared all parameters on runtime too. The query is also set at runtime. It took 13 secs to compile, 5 secs to fill and 2 secs to view. So in all 20 secs for the report to appear. 20 secs is too long. Is this normal. Is there any way to boost the performance ?? Pbm 2: We want to be able to have exactly the same number of rows as in the table in the generated report. Currently some extra 30 lines appear in the report due to the over flow of text. Please note that for some column of a row, the data is over 100 lines(when put in a doc file). Note: I have set the foll. parameters in the code: 1. JRXlsExporterParameter.IS_ONE_PAGE_PER_SHEET, Boolean.FALSE 2. JRXlsExporterParameter.IS_REMOVE_EMPTY_SPACE_BETWEEN_ROWS, Boolean.TRUE Also, I have enabled the 'stretch with over-flow' property of the Text fields in iReport. I have attached the genereted excel report for your reference. I feel that both the problems have the same cause ie text over flow. If there is way so that the text of a column, does not over flow to the next row, this issue can be resolved. I looked in to the previous forum questions, but still trying to fiqure out the solution. [jasperreports-questions] Transparent Images in exportToPDF()
I have a report that has multiple images in it. Some of these images have an image expression of java.net.URL and others of java.awt.Image. (The java.awt.Image files are not stored on the disk but in memory when the report is generated.) All of the images that are put in the report have a transparent background. After creating a JasperPrint for the report I am able to view the report using JasperViewer and the images in the report look fine. I am also able to use the JasperPrintManager and the report looks fine (even when printing to PDFCreator). However, when I use the JasperExportManager.exportReportToPdf() method, the images' transparencies do not work (they are blackish/redish and the image is indistinguishable). I am exporting the report to a pdf, getting the byte[] and saving it to a file. The BufferedImages I give the report are of type BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_ARGB. Is there a bug with the exportReportToPdf() that does not handle image transparencies--or is this expected behavior? It seems odd that the JasperViewer could handle transparent images but not the JasperExportManager. I am using the jasperreports-2.0.4.jar and the iText-2.0.7.jar files. I am really stuck on this and thank anyone in advance for further explanation and help. [jasperreports-questions] single line displays multiple number of times in our jasper reports
We are generating our jasper reports using jrxml files and we used multi threading concept in our code. All the Threads are accessing same jrxml files to generate the pdf files. In random scenario the reports are displaying multiple times for the same row. I am not able to find where the problem was. Is it because of Multi threading. Is Jasper is thread safe? Is this problem coming because I am accessing the same jrxml file from diffrent threads? Can anyone help me about this. [jasperreports-questions] Input Date Not working in Jasper reports?
Hello All,
I'm trying to run the bellow query through Jasper reports. The report ask
for two input paramters (startDate and endDate), so, I added two control
with the similar name what I'm using in query (pStartDate and pEndDate) of
date type. The format I'm using for date is
mm-dd-.
But the problem is, whenever I'm running the same query with some date range
directly on mysql console, I'm getting the result properly. Same query with
same input is also running and giving me correct result through Open Reports
also. But whenever I'm running this query through Jasper Report, I'm getting
NOTHING (Saying ... reports data empty).
I think, the format of date or something somehow is going wrong here. Can
someone pls give me any idea what I'm missing here? I pasted the query below
of this mail.

I have no problem displaying the arabic texts, but my requirements is to display the no.'s also in arabic. I tried changing the regional settings of my sistem to 'Saudi Arabia' and also i tried to set my locale in iReport to Saudi Arabia but it wouldnt display the numbers in arabic, i get only english numericals. I have a problem when generating vertical lines in the detail band.
I want to add an uninterupted vertical line in the detail band. I draw a
line with the height of the band, but when the band gets repeated (serveral
beans in my collection that is sent to the band), there is a tiny small
space between those vertical lines.

Hi, I use jasperreports 2.0.2 to print some reports in an applet of a web application. When I work with the java 1.5.0_09 plugin the size of the print job is very smaller than when I work with java 1.4.2 plugin. For example, if I send to the print job the same report in both versions of java plugin, with java 1.5.0_09 the size is about 500Kb and with java 1.4.2 the size is about 2.5Mb. Some clients of my web application have a very slow PC, and a print job of 2.5Mb takes enough time to print. Originally the application used Crystal and I am very interested in solving the problem in order to change definitively to Jasperreports. Any idea? [jasperreports-questions] Help with Subreports and JAVA Bean connections
I have been writing Jasper reports for some time and do not have a problem
writing main and subreports.
I can write a main report that passes a $P{REPORT_CONNECTION} (JDBC
connection) to subreport1 and they work fine. I can also write a main
report that passes a JAVA Bean to subreport2 and they work fine also.
The issue that that I need to write a main report that passes a JAVA Bean
to subreport2 and then have subreport2 pass a JDBC connection to
subreport1. At this point the main works fine and subreport2 works fine,
but I receive NO data from subreport1. I have attempted to pass a
parameter as a java.sql.Connection to subreport2 that then gets passed as
$P{REPORT_CONNECTION} to subreport1, and also attempted to pass
$P{REPORT_CONNECTION} to subreport2 for it to pass along to subreport1.
But nothing seems to work.
main - JDBC Connection - subreport1 --- works fine
main - JAVA Bean - subreport2 --- works fine
main - JAVA Bean - subreport2 - JDBC Connection - subreport1 --- (main
prints data, subreport2 prints data, but subreport1 does NOT print data)
The issue here is that the JAVA Bean retrieves data that will be passed to
subreport1 to generate its portion of the report.
In addition I have also attempted to have a main report call a subreport
(subreport2) using a Java Bean and then have that subreport call another
subreport (subreport3) using a Java Bean and this does not work either.
main - JAVA Bean - subreport2 --- works fine
main - JAVA Bean - subreport3 --- works fine
main - JAVA Bean - subreport2 - JAVA Bean - subreport3 --- (main
prints data, subreport2 prints data, but subreport3 does NOT print data.
In addition, I do not believe that the second JAVA Bean is even called
because my trace messages do not get printed that are in the second JAVA
Bean.)
