James,

http://www.blackdown.org/java-linux/docs/faq/FAQ-java-linux-5.html#ss5.1
discusses this:

In JDK versions 1.1.5 through 1.1.6v2 we've seen a problem with
libc.so and ld.so shipped with the JDK in
$JAVA_HOME/lib/i386/green_threads conflicting with the system. Try
removing these and then running Java.

I don't run Slackware, nor do I have ld.so-1.9.9 to test, so "your
fuel efficiency may vary."

java seg fault

1998-08-24 Thread mythos n/a

Dear Steve
I am running Linux ker 2.0 something, and recently downloaded your java
dev kit (jdk1.1.6 for linux/ i installed it etc, but whenever i try to
use it or any of the apps that i have attached to it (those requiring
java such as Aol instant messenger, or ICQJAVA ) never run. Instead
they give me a segementation fault (core dump). i have no clue as to
what this means, but was hoping that you could please give me a bit of
help. your time is apprecaited.

Re: java seg fault

1998-08-24 Thread Ondrej Popp

I had the same problem wirh ICQ java,
after jdk-1.1.3 it just did not want to work anymore.
Recently, I upgraded to glibc and libc.5.4.46 and tried them
both with jdk-1.1.6v2 to see if it made any difference. Everything
worked except for
ICQ that kept crashing. Then I discovered that this was related to the
dynamic version of java. Swithing to the static one made the problem go
away.

Ondrej

full screen frames

1998-08-24 Thread Håkan Thörngren

How can I get full screen frames?

We have a number of diskless Java Linux clients running the 1.1.6 x86
blackdown port. The GUI is opened on a single fram *without* any
window manager (java runs as last program in the X script).
This gives a window without decoration which is perfect in our
environment. The (poor) user cannot accidently press any strange key
sequences and have the window disappear.. :-)

The problem is that it still seems to allocate some pixels for the
(non-existent) window decoration, how can I stop it from doing that?

Java/Linux dB's

1998-08-24 Thread Nick Davies

Hello,

I'm having to evaluate technologies (again) and need to run some time
comparisons between databases accessed from Java via JDBC. Obviously an all
Linux system would be preferable :), but I need to let the other platforms
have a chance. Enough waffle, does anyone know of a relational database
running under Linux with JDBC support and preferable with a free evaluation
type download.

Thanks as ever,

Nick

Hi,

just try SOLID, a full ANSI compatible RDBMS. The new Version 2.3 has a fast
JDBC-Driver. Look at http://www.solid.fi for an evaluation copy!

Ciao, Michael

Many thanks for the rapid replies everyone (M$ tech. support are still
engaged ;))

For anyone who's interested I'll be running the tests on an AS400 running
DB2, an Apricot P200 thing running WinNT(Access '97 and Paradox) and
PostgreSQL, following two recommendations and an excellent price/performance
ratio ;)

Hallo

Hello Steve

I just thought you might be interested to see something that is happening
on my distribution of slakware. I recently just got 3.5 SLACKWARE and now
can't run seemingly any thing that loads some library in java. (ps if you
have a quick fix..puhhhllleeze tell me..) oh this hurts..

I sent along hopefully some useful information..

oh the dump of the stack should be there as well..
