[JAWS-Users] Re: Email?

2007-04-20 Thread Bharat

i am talking about the ability of being able to marking a mail as spam from
within the email client, especially. the ability to delete all the
unwanted messages from within the mailing client being used on the computer,
rather than having to login do the needful from the web interface.
something similar to what can be done while using an IMap account.
thanks,
bharat.

What does what Google does with the mail after dispatching it to your
Outlook Express folder have to do with spam filtering? I'm not sure what
 you're asking here.

I think you'll find that in Gmail's case you need to configure that from
 Gmail.

 1. Login to Gmail.

 2. Go to Settings.

 3. Go to Fowarding and Pop.

 4. For the select box When messages are accessed with POP, select
Delete Google Mail's Copy instead of Keep Google Mail's Copy in the
Inbox or Archive Google Mail's Copy. Note that this select box is not
labelled correctly, so you may only be able to tell which one it is from
 the select options.

By the way, I personally would recommend archiving your email with
Google, rather than just deleting it. I would have lost a lot of my mail
if I'd relied on my local copy alone.

2007-04-16 Thread Victor Gouveia

Hi Patricia,

I'm just getting caught up on e-mail, and ran into your message.

As I have found out recently, Outlook Express is very much portable, more so
than even I thought.

One thing you can do is create a new identity on your daughter's computer in
Outlook Express.

At that point, when you switch identities, create the account by pressing
alt+T for the tools menu, then the letter A for accounts.

Once you are on that dialog box, tab over to the add button, or, if you've
already created the account, highlight it in the list and tab to the
properties button.

Once in the account properties dialog box, edit the name field, as it will
most likely say pop.something.something, blah, blah, blah.

Once you've edited the field, control+tab over to the servers tab, and enter
the server address you have set in your Outlook Express at home.

Tab again to the next field, and enter your daughter's SMTP server address
for outgoing mail.

once you have done this, tab to the username and password field and enter it
as you have it on your computer at home.

Check out the settings your daughter has.

If it is high speed, she will most likely have to check the box that says
My Server Requires Authentication. If she does not have high speed
internet, then go ahead and check this box.

Once you check this box, if you tab again, you'll land on a button that has
suddenly become available that is titled settings.

Press the spacebar and you'll be taken to another dialog box that requires
you to make a choice.

By default, this box is set to Use the same settings as my incoming mail
server. What you want to do is press the down arrow so it reads, Log on
using:.

This will make the edit fields below this checkbox available.

Once they become available, input your daughter's log on information that
she uses to send mail.

Obviously, this will require your daughter to give you these settings.

Please keep in mind to input just your daughter's outgoing mail server.

If there's any confusion, this is the box which contains the letters SMTP.

Once you've entered the information, tab to the ok button, and you'll land
on the settings button of the previous dialog box.

You are pretty much done with this tab , so control+tab over to the advanced
page, and set the boxes for outgoing mail server port numbers, which is the
first box you hit once you land on this tab, and enter the information your
daughter has on her account.

tab to the checkbox and check or uncheck the box according to what your
daughter has on her account.

Now, tab again to the incoming mail server port numbers, and enter the
numbers that you have at home in this box. tab again, and set the checkbox
to what ever it is on your computer at home.

Once you have done this tab down twice to the server port time-outs slider,
and press the end key to take it up to 100%, otherwise bulky attachments may
have to be loaded through web mail.

Please take note...

It has been my experience that if you are going to change the numbers for
the incoming and outgoing mail server ports, you should check the boxes if
they require checking, otherwise the boxes above the port numbers will
revert back to the default.

Other than that, should you want to keep a copy of the messages to download
to your computer at home when you get back there, check on the box that says
leave a copy of messages on the server, so by default, this box is not
checked, so if you choose to do this, press the spacebar to check the box.

Once you have done all of this, you are pretty much finished, so tab to
apply, then shift+tab over to the ok button. This will land you back in the
accounts dialog box, so tab over to the close button and close it, now you
can go ahead and send and recieve messages at your leisure, and when your
daughter wants to read her mail, she can just switch identities and she
doesn't have to worry about your e-mails or settings.

That isn't to say that you can't check your e-mail through Outlook Express
without doing all this silly stuff, you can, just copy the account
information you have at home on your account or various accounts into your
new account you have set up on your daughter's computer, but the steps I
have outlined above give you the ability to send, as well as receive, which
you can't normally do on another person's server. ISP's are notorious for
that, but thanks to A T T servers, which I happened to get very well
acquainted with lately, I have been able to download my mail using my laptop
and using the same settings I used with very little modification.

Before, I could check my mail, I just couldn't respond to them, but now I
can.

I hope this helps you.

Victor

 David,
Last thunderbird portable version is 2.0 RC1 which is much better than
earlier, because automatacally accept gmail accounts and is more jaws
friendly. The link you can download from is:

 https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=151395release_id=499482

I believe you will like it. I use it several days from the usb memory

  David,
Last thunderbird portable version is 2.0 RC1 which is much better
than
earlier, because automatacally accept gmail accounts and is more
jaws

I believe you will like it. I use it several days from the usb

  Good luck.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Email?

2007-04-15 Thread Benjamin Hawkes-Lewis

Don't worry, Steve, you don't sound silly.

But I've checked and I can indeed change my Gmail settings from the
basic HTML view in Internet Explorer 6 too. Now my Gmail account is
British, and the servers that host it may be running a different version
of the Gmail software than the servers for your Gmail account, so this
isn't 100% conclusive.

Could you possibly find out the exact text of the message telling you to
switch back to standard view? And does it appear as soon as you login,
when you follow the Settings link, or when you attempt to save changed
settings?

Also has this always happened or is this a new problem? Sometimes this
page is taking longer than usual to load comes up when Gmail is in a
bit of a mess and then a day or so later it returns to normal.

 Hi Steve

Without more details about your system (e.g. what country, what browser
and version, what JAWS version, whether you are on broadband or dialup,
what your web experience is like in other respects), it's difficult to
make any suggestions. But I seem to be able to change settings in basic
HTML view in Firefox 2.0. I'm not using JAWS, but I doubt JAWS is
interfering with Gmail in this case.

I think you'll find that in Gmail's case you need to configure that
 from
 Gmail.

Note that this select box is
 not
labelled correctly, so you may only be able to tell which one it is
 from
 the select options.

By the way, I personally would recommend archiving your email with
Google, rather than just deleting it. I would have lost a lot of my
 mail
if I'd relied on my local copy alone.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Email?

2007-04-14 Thread Jeffrey Shockley

Yep. It is a stand alone email client like Popcorn but with more faetures. I
can't think of anything that you might need to know to use the client
except that I can't figure out how to get it to leave my messages on the
server for retrieval at a later time. I hope you know what I am talking
about. You should be able to use it as long as you know how to configure
your email account. It is completely accessible with Jaws.

David,
Last thunderbird portable version is 2.0 RC1 which is much better than
earlier, because automatacally accept gmail accounts and is more jaws
friendly. The link you can download from is:

https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=151395release_id=499482

I believe you will like it. I use it several days from the usb memory stick
and I think it's great program.
Good luck.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Email?

2007-04-14 Thread Dale Leavens

Isn't there some way to make Outlook or Outlook Express access Web mail?

I don't have any trouble receiving and reading e-mail from anywhere in the
world once I have a connection but only occasionally can I send it. I am
told this is because my server only authenticates from my local domain to
prevent others spamming from my address. I think this is not absolutely
correct since I was able to send email from Houston but certainly when I was
traveling through Alberta and British Columbia last summer I could not.

I find it very awkward to compose, check and send using those Web interfaces
and don't much like even reading and deleting messages that way but if
Popcorn and Thunderbird can do it I don't understand why OE cannot.

 David,
Last thunderbird portable version is 2.0 RC1 which is much better than
earlier, because automatacally accept gmail accounts and is more jaws
friendly. The link you can download from is:

 https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=151395release_id=499482

I believe you will like it. I use it several days from the usb memory
 stick
and I think it's great program.
 Good luck.

What you are talking about changes from one internet provider to another
and most of them now force you to send through their smtp server in
order to send mail. For example, I'm on ATT yahoo and even on my yahoo
account I have to use smtp.sbcglobal.net to send something from the
yahoo account. really it don't matter because it's still saying that
it's from the other account when the person uses it. I know this isn't
any help, but maybe it will help to understand things a little better.
And yes, this is done to prevent spamming.

Hi Dale,
You should be able to setup Outlook Express to download web mail, if your

All you should need is your log-in info, and the IMAP settings.

Nope, not unless you know the smtp server name of the provider your
connected to, then you use it to send your emails. Of course, if it
requires a password, then your stuck. The only way to do it then would

Hi. And if I may add a question. If you use this to read your email, can
you configure it to leave some of your email on the server until you get
home to download it? The ones you want to keep that is? I'm intrigued by

[JAWS-Users] pop corn RE: [JAWS-Users] Re: Email?

2007-04-09 Thread Chris Feist

Ah ok, thanks. It sounds like it may do what I want it to do.

For example, if at first I wanted to leave all my messages on the server,
then after I downloaded them and read them, delete the ones I don't want and
it will then go and remove those I deleted from the server. This is a
setting in Outlook on my folk's computer which I use when I visit them. It
keeps my on line in box from filling up with unwanted junk. I'm able to
delete all the messages I don't want off the server, and then when I get
back to my place, I download all the email I wanted to keep.

At least Pop Corn sounds JAWS friendly. More and more programs I'm finding
are getting harder to navigate, like Nero, so I hear. I'll probably be back
with plenty of questions about that soon enough. Sigh.

Yeah, you have a choice, rather too read your mail right off the server,
useing popcorn are downloading the message, it is your call. you will see
that in the setup mail area. Don

[JAWS-Users] Re: Email?

Hey David,
Here is what I'm going to do.
I am going to my daughter's for 3 weeks in another state, and she doesn't
have Jaws on her computer, so I'm going to download Jaws 8 on her computer
while I'm there, then when I leave she can remove Jaws.
I'm going to put popcorn on a flash card, so now all I have to do is plug
the flash card in her computer and I can read my email?
Can it be that simple?

Listen carefully to my audio tutorial on how to set up the program first,
