Re: [JAWS-Users] Avast 5.94 now fully accessible!
I have installed 5.0.594 free and it's true, it's accessible. I'd like to buy internet security version and I'm wondering if it's accessible as well. Does anybody have an experience? Mobeen Iqbal said the following on 30.6.2010 1:36: Hi All. Thanks to roger for tipping me off about this! Avast 5.0.594 now seems to be fully accessible with screen readers. progress bars are now spoken, as well as all of the interface. scans are now read out in realtime as they should be, providing the user with information you'd probably have had to use the jaws curser for. pressing tab and shift tab seems to be sufficient to navigate, in other words using standard navigational keystrokes gets you to the information you want to reach. the only flaw i've noticed is the settings dialogue, for screen reader users its read out correctly, but the tabs aren't immediately noticeable. you have to press space on the settings button, then tab, then shift tab until jaws doesn't say anything when shift tab is pressed e.g tab, gaming mode. shift tab, gaming mode settings. shift tab. when jaws says shift tab only, scrole up twice with the arrows and this should get you to where the tabs are, from there you have access to over 10 different tabs to finely customize avast settings including the look, sounds, scans, etc. feeling brave? most of you will already have the opportunity to update via the program interface its self, rightclick your avast icon, click on update, then program update. but for those of you that have not got it installed or don't want to use the system tray method, here's a download link to the free anti virus program. it is not necissary to install the chrome web browser, so click no when you are asked to install. http://download.softpedia.ro/dl/52604cb5db4419bc3e3d1f6a072972b8/4c2a81e1/16474/software/ANTIVIRUS/setup_av_free_eng.exe Thanks all for reading. Hi Mike, use the following method for the complete page, and adapt according to how much you need for the 'half' page. 1. Use Go To (CTRL-G) to move to the page number you want, specifying the page number of course. This places you at the top of that page. 2. Press F8 to enable extend mode 3. Press CTRL-PAGE DOWN. This selects the complete page. -- Use ctrl+DownArrow or shift+down- or up-arrow keys to select/deselect lines or paragraphs where less than a page. 4. Copy the text to the clipboard 5. Re: [JAWS-Users] Avast 5.94 now fully accessible!
Hi. I haven't personally installed internet security yet, but they did say on the website that they'd be carrying changes across all versions when they released the next version, which was about a month or 2 ago so i'm assuming they meant this version. What you could do is download and install the trial of internet security and test it with jaws and let us know if it works. I will be installing internet security at some point my self, i will report back when i have it installed if noone's got any more on this issue. i've just checked and the latest version of internet security is 5.0.594, so i'm assuming it will be accessible. you can download it here: http://download.softpedia.com/dl/0451f5e8f9c8f86828bc9525b5274085/4c307cf7/100145381/software/antivirus/setup_ais_eng.exe Mo. [JAWS-Users] JAWS Behaving Sluggishly On Google Home Page
Happy Indepencdence Day to all! This morning, for no apparent reason, JAWS 9 started behaving very sluggishly on my classic Google home page. When I type a search phrase into the search edit field, there is a delay between the time I type each character and the time JAWS echoes it; JAWS does not echo each character instantly as it is typed. Also, there is a considerable lag between the time I hit the Enter key and the time JAWS announces Enter. Yet, when I switch to the IGoogle home page, JAWS behaves normally. I am using IE 8 with XP Pro, and have not changed any settings. Why would JAWS work fine with IGoogle but not with classic Google? Has anyone else encountered this problem? Thanks. During the clean up process compress old files has about 3,000 kb of data that I can not get to be deleted. I looked for the file with no success. In 'Verbosity' Options, JAWSKey+v, arrow down to 'copy full screen content', and press spacebar on it to select 'copy from virtual cursor'. You may also need to check the Enhanced Edit Support checkbox in the application or default JAWS Configuration Manager, Text processing Options. - Original Message - From: Donnie Parrett deparr...@prtcnet.org To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Sunday, July 04, 2010 5:09 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] copy paste not working I tried rebooting and it still doesn't work. [JAWS-Users] Reading and writing Japanese text with JAWS
Hi all, I'd like to take a Japanese course, but am wondering about the accessibility of reading and writing Japanese characters with JAWS. I've downloaded The Kyoko SAPI 5 voice, so listening to the text is not a problem, but I also use braille and it would be great to be able to read the text in braille as well. Is there a Japanese braille table that can be used with JAWS? Many thanks, Grant For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
Re: [JAWS-Users] copy paste not working
I don't think copy and paste ever worked on webpages, unless you have saved the page in an html editor where you can edit it. You should be able to copy some selected text and put it in an editable document, but not on the webpage itself. - Original Message - From: Donnie Parrett deparr...@prtcnet.org To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Sunday, July 04, 2010 12:09 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] copy paste not working I tried rebooting and it still doesn't work. [JAWS-Users] Bird Chirping Sound
This is a new installation of JAWS 11 on a new HP dv6 3020 with 4g ram and Windows 7 Pro. When JAWS is running, anytime an action occurs such as opening a program or document, clicking a link or various keystrokes, there is an irritating 'chirping' sound, it is a single chirp per action. This only occurs when JAWS is running. I have gone through numerous settings to fix this issue with no success. Any ideas? Thank You! Re: [JAWS-Users] Selecting text in Word
I tried this selected mode in Internet. i want to copy some text from a website to Word. Is there a faster way than holding the shift key and down arrow key for the chunk of text? I am using Jaws 11 (lastest version), Vista, IE8, Office xP. Re: [JAWS-Users] BlindTech Dealing with lights on your router, modem or other device.
Hi Listers, But one still would have a hassle, I think, because sometimes the dsl status light flickers, which apparently is wrong, as it should burn constantly. I don't know whether one would be able to identify that with the light probe? Hi Patricia; If you can tell them what lights are on/off in an order, let's say from top to bottom, and the IP tech person can't determine which of these lights is supposed to be On/off and what their colors should be, it is probably a tech support person that you don't want to talk to in the first place. I don't think any of the lights on a modem are suppose to glow in more than 1 color. Take care. Mike, I hear ya there buddy, but even with a light probe all it does is make that buzzin' sound to let ya know a light is on, but sure as heck don't tell ya the color of the blinkin' light which is always what they ask...is the green light on? I'm thinkin' green stands for go so that should be like a no brainer for them to figure out or, otherwise why are you callin'? Good Morning Richard; I am sorry about posting such a message but, I have run into situations with our Internet Provider when I needed to know what lights, are or are not, lit on the modem and not having someone sighted around to tell me so I could tell the IP tech support person. Without my service working correctly it renders Jaws useless with trying to use many programs and functions of the computer. I thought that this little tip could help people keep Jaws working more efficiently and have less frustrations in using Jaws in their everyday lives. You see, if I lay on Doctor Phil's couch long enough I can relate anything to using Jaws! LOL Hope this helps clear up my convoluted ways of thinking! LOL Take care. For Lisa and others who may be concerned with knowing the status of indicator lights on a router or modem, I can determine which lights are on, off, or blinking with a light probe. Independent Living aids has one for twenty-three dollars and change. They work well for a number of things. I use my probe to tell me about the lights on various cooking devices such as a rice cooker, foreman grill, and many other things. It will find lights on those little cube shaped power supplies that plug into the wall; the blinking light on the victor stream; the light on the computer speakers; and a host of other things I can't bring to mind just now. Just a thought. Lois Goodine. Hope this helps. Take care. Mike For answers to frequently
