Re: [JAWS-Users] "Research It" for JAWS 11 (Last security build)notworking

2010-09-19 Thread Tan Siew Ling
Hi,

Pardon me for my lack of computer terminology. If the Firewall was
blocking JAWS, shouldn't his earlier versions of JAWS not function at
all? Right now, JAWS can interact fully with his desktop, the only
problem is that Research It is not working as expected.
Thank you for your assistance again.

Russ,

You can choose a manual quick-scan or thorough scan.

Also, if you open MSSE, tab until you hear the home button, then left
arrow once or twice, you will land on a settings treview where you can
configure settings to tell MSEE what you want it to do for various default
actions.

Lastly, is it safe to uninstall AVG just using the uninstall on the

I am trying to do a repair of jaws v11. I have the latest update but jaws
keeps engaging the shift key along with other key strokes on my netbook
running xp pro. I tried several things so far rebooting the computer
hitting the caps lock key twice rapidly to unlock the shifted state with no
success. Now I want to repair jaws but there isn't a repair option in
add/remove when I attempt to remove jaws in control panel on the netbook
and/or when I choose install from the dvd with my external cd/dvd burner.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Security Essentials on my netbook

2010-09-19 Thread Steve

Russ,

I think you can uninstall AVG from add/remove programs.

There are two different versions of MSSE, depending on what operating system
you use. YOu didn't state which one you have, so here are the links:

1. XP 32 bit.
http://download.microsoft.com/download/A/3/8/A38FFBF2-1122-48B4-AF60-E44F6DC28BD8/mssefullinstall-x86fre-en-us-xp.exe

2. Vista & Windows7 32 bit;
http://download.microsoft.com/download/A/3/8/A38FFBF2-1122-48B4-AF60-E44F6DC28BD8/mssefullinstall-x86fre-en-us-vista-win7.exe

3. Vista & Windows7 64 bit;

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

[JAWS-Users] Upgrading to Windows 7

2010-09-19 Thread Francis E. Khan
Thank you all for the advice and comments that I received yesterday on this
subject. One of the first things I did was to download the windows site
advisor so that I could see what needed to be done to my computer and I must
say that the information received was comprehensive. My computer is about five
and a half years old and I found out that the RAM was insufficient for
upgrading.

Anyway, I have decided to purchase a computer which we will have to assemble,
acquire about 6 GB of RAM, using a 500 GB hard drive, and asking a friend who
worked in the computer division of a bank where I worked to do the rest of the
project. For the time being, until I get my new setup, I will use the computer
I have.

Hopefully, I should have my new computer within a month.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Braille display Issue in Notepad and Perky Duck

2010-09-19 Thread Flor Lynch

Hi,

I have a BrailleNote (32 cell). I did a test in Notepad writing text
with no press of the enter key over multiple line-breaks, and indeed the
new lines begin with an indent of 1 cell to cell two. This, after all,
may be the default behaviour in Notepad (at least). I wonder if we
turned off word wrap, and chose 'best fit', would that change anything.
Now, it's true that most lines will not have the full 40-cell braille
width; so for most purposes in most programs that won't matter much. I
do some braille proof-reading myself, for which i use duxbury; and there
the cells (including cell 1 when appropriate) are filled in with the
beginning of a new braille line. I'm quite surew there is a technical
explanation of why new lines on a braille display in Notepad and in
other programs begin in cell two; but does anyone here know it? It's
also quite true that Notepad is not an ideal means through which to read
a text file on a refreshable braille display.

Hi jerry,

This may be because every new line - a hard line break, when the enter
key is pressed - is treated as a paragraph break, thus making a new
one

begin in cell two or cell three (to conform with the correct brailling
rules), in Notepad and in Perky Duck. If you have the full forty
cells

filled in one line, then isn't it likely that there will be a single
space left in cell one of the next braille line to mark the word
separation, which might be important if you have the display
refreshing

automatically? (I can't speak to perky duck, not having it.) the
paragraph setting in Outlook and word may be set to two line-spaces
rather than just one. if reading a print line in Notepad of more than
40 characters that wraps, I believe the remainder of the print line
will
start over on cell one of the next braille (as it will happen,
shorter)

line. the braille line beginning in cell two or three may be quite
correct for beginning a new paragraph in braille. I do have Duxbury
braille Translator, and I know that there are settings available there
to enable beginning a parargraph on cell one.

She's taking a braille transcription course, so alignment is

She has discovered that in Perky Duck, and in Notepad, the cursor
always
starts in cell 2 instead of cell 1. (In Word or Outlook, the cursor
starts

I have tried changing some settings in her braille options. Status
cells

Any thoughts on why this problem is occurring and how to fix it?

Thanks.

Hi,

A few days back, my friend upgraded his version of JAWS from version
9 to the latest security build of version 11.
He rang me to tell me that his "Research It" is not working. When he
typed in a definition of a word, for example, Happy, Wiktionary
returned with no result. When he tried to use the currency conversion,
the same thing happened.
Is there a setting I need to help him activate so the 22 services
can function properly?
 Thank you for any assistance.

Regards,
Siew Ling
