Re: [JAWS-Users] Problem with word2003

2011-05-19 Thread Van Der Walt Riana
I'm not sure whether this has been dealt with yet, but your friend's
problem is a jaws one, not office 2003.

Try unloading and reloading jaws, or use an earlier version. On my work
pc, with jaws 11 as default, I need to switch to the only other version
available on this pc regularly, even though it's version 8 of jaws, to
eliminate this annoying jaws bug.

HI list,

A friend of mine is having a challenge with his windows xp system
running
jfw11 and word 2003. Since the weekend, the PC cursor is reporting
blank on
every document even though when he switches to the jaws cursor he can
see
there is text there. The computer is working fine in all other areas
except
for word. We've tried maximising parent and child windows, resetting
the
zoom in view. Deleting and rebuilding the normal document template, and
checking everything in the configuration manager's cursor options.

We're now to the idea of reinstalling office, but before we did that, I
wanted to see if anyone may have any other suggestions.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Kerryann

Hello, you can enable them ad hoc for a particular web page, when on the
page, via the jaws verbosity menu.

Pressing spacebar on the relevant option is a toggle.

Hi,

JAWS has a setting to turn off in line frames on webpages. I would like
to be able to disable these but was wondering if I am likely to miss any
important information and whether I can enable them for specific
websites like Ebay?
I've usually notice them as google ads or links to share a webpage on
facebook etc.

Thanks,

Have you tried changing the document reading mode to see what difference

Dear List,

With the above combination, JAWS often goes silent when I open a doc for the
first time; and I have to close Adobe and start over. I'm not sure whether
Adobe is freezing or whether JAWS is doing so. Perhaps the 'X' in Adobe
Reader X stands for experimental ;)

Can anyone share experiences or suggestions? Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Disabling In line frames in IE

2011-05-19 Thread Don Marang
It would be much safer to disable it on a site by site basis. Many
sites only use in-line frames for ads. Other sites might use them for
content, especially if it uses some type of server side script. Our
local radio station posts all of the School closings on a separate page
of their site. It has tons of links with the content somewhere in the
middle. The data is displayed in it's own in-line frame. The fastest
way to navigate to it is by frame.

If you find this to be the exception to the rule, you could make the
default to be ignore in-line frames and just enable them for sites you
know have valid content in an in-line frame. However, if the default is
to ignore in-line frames, How would you ever know?

The only thing about J Tunes is that you get into that cycle of paying
for a program, paying for updates, etc. And, whenever there is a JAWS
upgrade, J Tunes is broken, and you have to wait for an update. Also I
don't like the notion of having to pay for a screen reader, then having
to pay for access to a particular program. Could you imagine how
expensive it would be if you paid $1000 for a screen reader, then had to
pay another $60 or $70 for access to each program you wanted to run.
iTunes is a free program, and it shouldn't cost you so much just to
access it.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Major JFW 12 problems with Firefox

Hello list,

I have been having all sorts of trouble with Firefox and the latest Jaws 12
release. In particular the Google Reader page. I wanted to share what I'm
experiencing and see if it may just be an issue with my machine or if others
are dealing with the same problems.

I have Google Reader as one of my homepages and when I launch Firefox, Jaws
always behaves as though the virtual cursor is turned off. In fact, Jaws
will say Application Mode On. In order to get Jaws to work properly, I
have to do an insert+z keystroke command and then Jaws will say Application
Mode off. I'll then be able to go around the page with no problems. This
particular issue only started when upgrading the Firefox 4.0 and is still
present with the latest Firefox 4.0.1 update. If while in Firefox and I go
back to my Google Reader page, either by clicking on the Reader link from
another Google site or through my saved bookmark at least 70% of the time,
the Application Mode On issue comes up.

I have noticed a marked increase of instances of Mozilla crashing with this
latest Jaws release as well. Again, it happns most often while on the Google
Reader page and while in Firefox in general. Either when I go to the Google
Reader page, close a link that I had opened from Google Reader or simply by
just having the page open or refreshing the page with the insert+escape key
command. Upwards of 10 times a day. It would happen every now and then with
the earlier versions of Jaws 12, but it has become a constant with the
latest JFW rlease. I at first thought it was an issue with Firefox or
perhaps a rogue add-on, but I have tried disabling add-ons and plug-ins and
Firefox was still crashing left and right. When I use an older version of
Jaws (11.0)

however, Firefox not only never crashes, but the over all responsiveness of
the browser and JFW feel over all snappier and better. With JFW 12, using
the browser had become painfully slow either through regular navigating from
page to page as well as when trying to refresh a page. Seconds would go by
before Jaws would be able to speak. Not to mention the crashing problem.
Jaws would outright crash much more frequently too.

I don't experience the browser crashing issue in IE8, but the over all
sluggishness with JFW 12 is present along with using other applications. I
at first thought that I had been infected with a virus or other malware, but
with the older version of 11.0, my computer is much, much more responsive.

I do however experience the Application Mode On issue with JFW 11.0 as
well. So maybe it's a Firefox 4.0 thing in regards to this.

There are a couple of other problems, but the ones above are what are
giving me the most problems. Is anyone else experiencing any of these
problems or have any ideas on what may be causing it?

Like I said, when using JFW 11.0, a lot of what I mentioned above doesn't
happen. All my antivirus and malware stuff is up to date. I was going to
shoot an email off to Freedom Scientific, but wanted to get feedback from
other Jaws users as well. This is the first time a new Jaws release has
given me this much trouble since I don't know when and want to be sure it's
perhaps not something on my end.

 Thanks,

 Cristobal

I don't like the notion of having to pay for a screen reader, then
having to pay for access to a particular program. Could you imagine
how expensive it would be if you paid $1000 for a screen reader, then
had to pay another $60 or $70 for access to each program you wanted to
run.
iTunes is a free program, and it shouldn't cost you so much just to
 access it.

My question is though:
was my original iTunes problem--the fact that it was unresponsive,
due to JFW or iTunes?

So that's why I was asking if there are any alternative solutions to iTunes.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Adobe Reader X JAWS 12

2011-05-19 Thread Cindy C.

Hi.

What has been discovered here is that Jaws is apparently preparing the
document in the background. But if you maybe alt tab away from the window,
it should come back. It doesn't say it's preparing the document as it used
to say in the past.

That's just what my fiance and I have come across. If this doesn't work,
well at least you can say you've tried. I have no other explanation at this
time.

Have a good day.

Cindy

With the above combination, JAWS often goes silent when I open a doc for

Adobe is freezing or whether JAWS is doing so. Perhaps the 'X' in Adobe

[JAWS-Users] questions about JAWS and Windows 7

2011-05-19 Thread susan wojtecki
Hi everyone, Sorry I was not more precise with the subject line.

I have a couple of miscellaneous questions regarding migrating to a new machine
with Windows 7. Firstly, I am jumping from JAWS 8.0 to 12.0 and assume that I
will need to do the authorization prior to a clean install, right? I will not
have access to the classic startup or whatever it's called since I am only
getting the Home premium version, but are there any configuration changes I
should make so that JAWS and Windows will play well together? Also, does the
Windows setup include some version of IE or do I have to get this elsewhere,
and if so what steps are involved? I also need to decide whether to go with
internet Explorer 8 or 9 and office 2007 or 2010 and would like opinions on
which email clients people favor, keeping in mind that I'm used to Outlook
Express and have had no real chance to work with Windows Mail or Thunderbird
and am somewhat leaning away from Outlook. I think those are all the questions
for now, but there may be a few others before I'm done, smile. Many thanks for
all assistance.

  Thanks,

  Cristobal

Hello Bill,

I am using JAWS 12 with IE 9 and Excel 2010. The following works for me,
but you will have to try it with Excel 2007 and IE 8 to see if it works for
you.

1. Go to the line of text above the HTML data table where JAWS tells you
how many rows and columns are in the table.
2. Press JAWS key with V.
3. Press D until you hear the document presentation menu item.
4. Press spacebar until you hear screen layout.
5. Press enter key.
6. Press f8 to select the table.
7. Press CTRL C to copy the selected data to the clipboard.
8. Open Excel.
9. Paste the data.

JAWS will read the content of each cell, but you will need to adjust such
things as column widths and row heights.

Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] questions about JAWS and Windows 7

2011-05-19 Thread jim Rawls
Susan,
For me, I will say this. Jaws 12 and windows 7 play well together. As far as
settings to change
in windows 7, to make jaws work with it, you need do nothing. Jaws 12 is
different than jaws 8 was. Jaws will make the setting changes, without you
doing anything. d as for IE 8 or 9, I'm guessing that your computer has IE 8
on it, and that's fine. I'd stay with that for awhile, although several of
the group are running IE9 now. My thought is to stay with IE8 till all the
bugs are out of 9.
As for email client, more than likely, your computer has windows live mail
on it. I don't like that email client, although, it is free. So, you might
be drawn to it because of that. If so, know that it is similar to OE, but
not as good. It has from time to time crashed, and sometimes you can't
delete or open emails. It doesn't happen too often, but it does indeed
happen.
I am new to outlook, and have outlook 2007 on my computer, and I do like it
a lot. I will admit to not using all of its features, but it only took me a
few days to get it set up the way I wanted. If you have it, and it might be
that your computer came with a trial version of it, give it a try. I am a
convert, and have to say I like it a lot.
If I can answer any more questions fire away. My email, should you care to
write off list is:jazzpi...@ca.rr.
