[JAWS-Users] daily information

2011-12-14 Thread David Ferrin
Daily Tip:
Outlook: Recent Search

This is a handy tip for people who use the same keyword often when searching
with Microsoft Office Outlook 2010's Instant Search feature. Click the Instant
Search field and then find the Options group in the Search Tools tab (which
appears in the Ribbon only when the Instant Search field is active). Now, click
the Recent Searches button and then select the keyword from your 10 most recent
keyword searches.

  Daily Term:
above the fold

A term borrowed from print media that indicates the portion of the screen the
user sees first. On Web sites, important information should go in this space,
but it's also expensive advertising real estate. In order to be above the fold,
the information should be visible without having to scroll vertically or
horizontally. Since users can have various screen resolutions that affect
whether something is positioned above the fold or not, it is important to know
the resolution used by most visitors to the site.

2011-12-14 Thread David Bailes
Hi Gerald,
with browser mode switched off (insert + z), you should be able to tab to both
the check box for opening results in a new window and the save button. You can
interact with them using the normal keystrokes (spacebar for the check box, and
spacebar or enter for the button).
I've checked this is the case using Jaws 10 and IE8, but don't have Jaws 9 to
check there, so I'd be grateful if you could let me know whether the above
method works with Jaws 9.

Jerry,
I assume you want to use mail merge to insert data from a database
If you want just a page of all the same labels, you can use Alt M, then l
to

get into the labels dialogue box and check the appropriate radio button.
If you want to mail merge, here is an outline for that.

Mail Merge in Word 2007
Choose Alt M for the mailings tab.
Then tab to mail merge.

Start Mail merge
Choose labels

Alt M
Select Recipients
Choose the source for the information.
Under that option you need to find the file that contains your records.
In

my situation, that is an Access database.

Then go back to the menu and find the option for, Edit recipient list
Here I tab down to the filter link. When I enter on that I get a table
like
I was used to using inWord 2000, where I can enter the record number and
the

range that I want to print.

Alt M
Go to the, Insert merge fields group box
As name, address, city, state and zip are selected, they appear in the
main

document below.
User needs to use enter to move down a line, add the comma after the city
and the space before the zip
No key command, so use Alt M, and tab through to the insert merge fields
group box each time.

Then go to the Update labels button
Hit enter and all the labels fill in.

[JAWS-Users] duxbury translation tables in jaws

2011-12-14 Thread André van Deventer
Hi folks

Somewhat of a technical thing I have been wondering about over the years.

According to the about dialog of jaws, t seems as if the program uses
conversion tables from Duxbury to do the translations in braille for use
with a braille display.

My question is now whether one could then add other tables from Duxbury for
use with a braille display? Are they the normal tables found in Duxbury or
are they modified braille tables?

In my situation I would not mind adding the Afrikaans braille table to the
list in Jaws.

Regards

Andre

I have been doing almost all of my Christmas shopping from the main
Amazon site for years. I spent a lot of money on Monday. I had almost
all gifts wrapped since I only have one finger left on my right hand. I
am now trying to figure out what to send my parents and sisters, who are
scattered all over the country.

I love the Prime membership free two day shipping! However, so far I
have not paid for the service. In November I joined the Mom's club,
designed for new Mothers. It does not provide all of the benefits such
as free video streaming. It does provide the free 2 day shipping and a
30% discount on diapers and large discounts in their baby section. My
youngest is 19, so I don't need these products, so I may not be able to
keep extending the initial 3 month membership by spending at least $25 a
month on baby supplies.

Yes, Jaws and Amazon.com/access are a great marriage. Just be sure not to
get suckered into paying standard shipping when your total order is $25. or
more. They make you arrow right to find the super saver shipping option.
But it is well worth finding. They tried to, by default, sucker me into
$20. standard shipping for $60 worth of stuff. I caught it and made sure it
was changed to super saver.
By the way, I understand that the Toys r Us site is easy to use. Marilyn

absolutely love amazon though. They got a lot of my Christmas dollars

Marilyn

Hi

I don't think you can completely bypass the spell check. But when it finds
the first error, I just press escape which brings up a message saying that
the spell check has been stopped and do you want to send anyway? Press
enter for yes and the message is on its way. This works in Outlook 2000 and

Hello crew,

I have purposely set my outlook 07 settings so that when I hit ctrl enter to
send an email I've written it automatically starts spell check. I want this
to remain this way.

however sometimes I use the English kbd to type out emails in my language to
my peeps back in India and you can imagine every single word in the email is
prompted by the spell check.

is there any quick way to selectively disable auto spell check for any email
sending out without having to change my default auto spell check setting via
the Outlook menu?

KBD shortcuts or hot key combos?

[JAWS-Users] problem with Windows media player

Hi everyone,
Am hoping someone can help with this. I finally upgraded to a new PC

Winamp. I attempted to set Winamp as my default player for all audio
files and playing CDs. This seemed to work initially but now Windows

preferences dialog to change it. At this poingt I not only can't play
anything in Winamp but JAWS seems to lose focus whenever I try to go
into the file dialog and I can't access the preferences either. I'm
pretty sure I'm still on the classic skin but it's almost acting like
that is messed up as well. Any thoughts on fixing this much
appreciated. I'm not very comfortable with WMPand am new to current

No. the accessible site is a streamlined version, just the basics. Actually

Hi folks

Somewhat of a technical thing I have been wondering about over the
years.

According to the about dialog of jaws, t seems as if the program uses
conversion tables from Duxbury to do the translations in braille for
use

with a braille display.

My question is now whether one could then add other tables from
Duxbury for
use with a braille display? Are they the normal tables found in
Duxbury or

are they modified braille tables?

In my situation I would not mind adding the Afrikaans braille table to
the

list in Jaws.

2011-12-14 Thread Don Marang
The only complaint about the main site I have is, I wish they would have
the product titles in search results as a HTML heading. Making each
title as a heading level 4, would not need to change the look of the
page, but would make it easier to go through results. I have requested
this. Since they already provide a segregated, limited view through a
separate accessible site, they probably do not think this is a valid
request.

 Subject: [JAWS-Users] Jaws and amazon

 Hi group:

I finally got brave enough to try Amazon and I love it.

Most of you probablly already use the Accessible Amazon site.
I just wanted to let the rest of you know how easy the site is to use.
Just go to amazon.com, down arrow one time to the accessible link and press
 enter.
You can save this site in your favorite list and you can put a shortcut key
for it on your desktop if you want to for easy access.
Amazon makes Christmas shopping much easier and more fun.
I just bought my wife a pearl set and gave them to her today, she loves the
 set.
Happy shopping...buy lots of gifts...lollol...ahahahah...lol One question I
have, luckily I selected and copied this message.
For when I went to press f-7 to spell check my email in WLM, WLM froze and
restarted making me loose the message.
This must have something to do with the update, this has always worked fine.
 Any suggestions.
Using the latest Jaws 13 on a windows 7 32 bit machine.
Thanks, god bless, and merry Christmas...Jim For answers to frequently asked

Lois and all. I agree about the full site. It is also more developed, re:
lots offaq information. Generally, the access site is good for cutting out
extraneous info. Marilyn

Re: [JAWS-Users] DecTalk USB not working in Vista

2011-12-14 Thread Brandon Misch
yeah try to use eloquence as default and just change it to DECtalk usb after
starting jaws. less issues that way. works great that way.

I had a very weird experience with the DecTalk USB as the default profile.
All of a sudden, out of the blue, the voice came from my speakers as high

DecTalk to function, so I uninstalled JAWS 11 totally and then reinstalled it.

I had DecTalk working beautifully and guess what? The voice did the same
thing, coming through my speakers as rapidly and as high pitched as possible.

Now I have removed the DecTalk and am using SAPI DecTalk, so I'll see how
things go from here. I like the external synthesizer because I do not like
JAWS coming from the same speakers music or movies come from.

Has anyone experienced anything like this? If so, were you able to get
DecTalk USB to function without this nonsense happening?

glad it's working for you. better than trying to get access 32 to work wich
so far won't work not even on xp unless you have it from them and not a
 third party.

If I remember correctly, wasn't there something one has to put into
the .ini file to make this happen?

Please, someone, give me some help here.

the JAWS braille Tables are not the same as the language braille Tables in
DBT. you can read them. In Duxbury, the braille tables are covered in the
help topics. In JAWS, the JBT's are in: C:\Program Files\Freedom
Scientific\JAWS13 (or the version of JAWS).

Subject: [JAWS-Users] duxbury translation tables in jaws

 Regards

 Andre
