Re: [JAWS-Users] question how to import favorites from windows xp towindows 7?

2012-04-11 Thread Rick Justice
Hi Mich,
A simple copy and paste will do what you need.
Copy your favorites to a flash drive, and then plug that drive into the new
machine,
then paste them into the Favorites folder on the new machine.

Just a note:
Others have suggested MSE, which is good for anti-virus and anti-spyware,,
however, it is not an anti-spam program.
It is much easier to simply delete spam then try and find a program
that is screen-reader friendly,and doesn't cause e-mail problems.

Hi

In JAWS 13, one of the recent updates removed that keystroke and the script
it called. The personalized web settings for an individual page have been
moved into quick settings. You will find them near the bottom of the Quick
Settings tree view. Or you can use the search box to find the setting you
want and then choose the one from PersonalizedWebSettings.

Hello,

How do I get shift insert V to work?
Using JFW 13 latest, Win7.

I recall there is a shift insert V command to bring up the personalized
settings window for the application I'm on. In case of a web page,
apparently it brings up a personalized web settings window for just that web
page. Note shift insert V and insert V are different.

shift insert V does nothing for me. I tried it with MS Word as well as a web
page in IE9. Insert V brings up window but it seems to be the quick setting
center window for that particular application as opposed to my need for the
settings center window for just that particular web page.

so how do I get shift insert V to work?

[JAWS-Users] ATT and uverse and O E

2012-04-11 Thread Rich Hamel
I am still trying all suggestions.
My original settings with DSL for my server is mail.bellsouth.net and I am
still able to receive messages. but Can not receive.
When I alter the server name to mail.att.net or, att.net, or att.yahoo.com or
mail.att.yahoo.com.
I am neither able to receive or send messages.
Checking or unchecking SSL has no effect on my problem.

What are any thoughts of just upgrading to outlook?
What would I have to do to accomplish this i.e. uninstall OE.
My fear is losing much of my information.

Thanks

Re: [JAWS-Users] ATT and uverse and O E

2012-04-11 Thread Steve

Rich,

I thought you said before that you were using ATT. Each domain of ATT has
different settings for your pop3 and smtp server. If you do a Google search
for Bellsouth.net and Outlook Express, you would find the page from
Bellsouth where you can see how to set up each email program.\

I'm surprised, frankly, this page that I'm copying below doesn't reference
using SSL or anything. I chedcked the bottom of the page and it said
copyright 2011.

1. Open Outlook Express.
2. Click on Set up a Mail account...

bellsouth/cs.main.email.outlookexpress.01-01

3. Click the button next to Create a new Internet mail account.
4. Click Next.

bellsouth/cs.main.email.outlookexpress.01-02

5. Enter your name as you would like for it to appear in the From field of
outgoing messages.

6. Click Next.

bellsouth/cs.main.email.outlookexpress.01-03

7. Click the button next to I already have an e-mail address that I'd like
to use.

8. Enter your complete e-mail address.
9. Click Next.

bellsouth/cs.main.email.outlookexpress.01-04

10. Select POP3 from the drop down box.
11. In the Incoming mail server enter mail.bellsouth.net.
12. In the Outgoing mail server enter mail.bellsouth.net.
13. Click Next.

bellsouth/cs.main.email.outlookexpress.01-05

14. Enter your account name.
Hint: It is the letters, characters, and numbers to the left of the @ sign
in your e-mail address.
15. Enter your e-mail password. You will not see your password. Asterisks
(*) will appear for each character entered.
16. Make sure the Logon using Secure Password Authentication is NOT
selected.

17. Click Next.

bellsouth/cs.main.email.outlookexpress.01-06

18. Click Finish. You are now ready to send and receive e-mail messages.

When I alter the server name to mail.att.net or, att.net, or att.yahoo.com

I am neither able to receive or send messages.
Checking or unchecking SSL has no effect on my problem.

What are any thoughts of just upgrading to outlook?
What would I have to do to accomplish this i.e. uninstall OE.

[JAWS-Users] Uverse Settings

2012-04-11 Thread Steve
BlankOk, I have to make a bit of a correction. Apparently, with the new
Inbound.att.net and Outbound.att.net settings, it doesn't matter what your
ultimate mail domain is with UVerse. Just make sure to put in your complete
email address as instructed below from ATT.

Note: ATT's POP/SMTP settings have recently changed to inbound.att.net and
outbound.att.net. However, if you are using the old settings, they will
continue

to work.

The following mail server settings will work with all ATT email domains:
@ameritech.net, @att.net, @bellsouth.net, @flash.net, @nvbell.net,
@pacbell.net,

@prodigy.net, @sbcglobal.net, @snet.net, @swbell.net, @wans.net.

table with 2 columns and 7 rows
Email Program Settings Field:
Enter:
Incoming (POP)
inbound.att.net
Outgoing (SMTP)
outbound.att.net(requires authentication)
Incoming mail server:
POP3
Incoming/Outgoing User Name:
Full ATT email address, including domain (e.g., t...@att.net,
t...@bellsouth.net)

Incoming mail port #:
995, secure connection (SSL) checked
Outgoing mail port #
465, secure connection (SSL) checked
table end

Note: When updating the secure server settings, check the SSL check box
first and then update the port number if necessary.

Back to my instructions ...

Checking the SSL box will automatically change your port to 995. Verify
that before you save the account.

Under the servers tab using Outlook Express, after you enter the password,
make sure the first box using secure password authentication is not checked,
but check the second box Server requires authentication.

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

an underscore is usually shift and dash, i'm refering to a UK keyboard

underline a series of words on a line in word for example, using jaws
press home on the line, then press shift end to select the line then
press control U.

i hope that helps.

[JAWS-Users] would like instructions for how to use Jaws on a laptop

2012-04-11 Thread joanne
I do use a regular keyboard with my laptop, since I'm used to that layout and
of course the function keys and insert key are easy to find and use with Jaws.
But should I ever really need to--which I hope will not be often--, is there a
tutorial or list of hot keys and where they might be located on a laptop? For
instance, I have heard you can't use the insert key and I'm not really sure
where it is anyway. Not really even sure where control keys or start menu
keys, etc. are, and by luck I found the arrow keys. But I would like to learn
my way around a laptop and learn what keys would be Jaws specific.

Thanks for any help.

Hello there
You can set up your lap top to act like a desk top or a lap top
configuration.
I have my toshiba lap top set up as a desk top so my num pad is either a
number pad calculator with the num lock on or a navigation display with the
num lockoff

This means that you use the lap top keys like a regular keyboard.
You also have the option to attach the keyboard via the USB to your lap top
and use the regular keyboard you are used to.

Your choice
Hope this helps
Maybe we can discuss if needed early next week!

Re: [JAWS-Users] would like instructions for how to use Jaws on a laptop

2012-04-11 Thread David
Hello there;

First of all,
If your using the jaws laptop layout,
The insert key becomes the capslock key.
Jaws key+semi colon activates the PC Cursor,
Jaws key+p activates the jaws cursor.
Jaws key+left bracket moves the jaws cursor to the PC cursor.
Jaws key+apostrophe moves pc cursor to the jaws cursor.
The left click= jaws key+#8
The right click=jaws key+#9

You can always use, the insert+#row 1
To turn on the
Keyboard help.

Hope this was helpful.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] would like instructions for how to use Jaws on a
laptop

I do use a regular keyboard with my laptop, since I'm used to that layout
and of course the function keys and insert key are easy to find and use with
Jaws. But should I ever really need to--which I hope will not be often--,
is there a tutorial or list of hot keys and where they might be located on a
laptop? For instance, I have heard you can't use the insert key and I'm not
really sure where it is anyway. Not really even sure where control keys or
start menu keys, etc. are, and by luck I found the arrow keys. But I would
like to learn my way around a laptop and learn what keys would be Jaws
specific.

BlankOk, I have to make a bit of a correction. Apparently, with the new
Inbound.att.net and Outbound.att.net settings, it doesn't matter what your
ultimate mail domain is with UVerse. Just make sure to put in your
complete email address as instructed below from ATT.

Note: ATT's POP/SMTP settings have recently changed to inbound.att.net
and outbound.att.net. However, if you are using the old settings, they
will continue

to work.

The following mail server settings will work with all ATT email domains:

@pacbell.net,

@prodigy.net, @sbcglobal.net, @snet.net, @swbell.net, @wans.net.

table with 2 columns and 7 rows
Email Program Settings Field:
Enter:
Incoming (POP)
inbound.att.net
Outgoing (SMTP)
outbound.att.net(requires authentication)
Incoming mail server:
POP3
Incoming/Outgoing User Name:
Full ATT email address, including domain (e.g., t...@att.net,
t...@bellsouth.net)

Incoming mail port #:
995, secure connection (SSL) checked
Outgoing mail port #
465, secure connection (SSL) checked
table end

Note: When updating the secure server settings, check the SSL check box
first and then update the port number if necessary.

Back to my instructions ...

Checking the SSL box will automatically change your port to 995. Verify
that before you save the account.

Under the servers tab using Outlook Express, after you enter the password,
make sure the first box using secure password authentication is not
checked, but check the second box Server requires authentication.

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Anti-spam programs

2012-04-11 Thread Steve
Well, there is confusion about Windows Defender. The old Win Defender was
an antispyware program and got rolled into Microsoft's anti-virus program
MSSE. But, that is not the same as an antispam program.

Here is a brief note about the history from a Windows Secrets article a
couple months ago. By the way, Windows Defender Offline is a beta that will
boot independent of windows to scan for malware and rootkits. It will
likely get released in conjunction with Windows 8.

The branding history of WDO goes something like this. Back in 2004,
Microsoft bought a company called GIANT AntiSpyware and turned that product
into Microsoft
AntiSpyware the next year. MS then rewrote it and renamed it Windows
Defender in 2006 - and made it a free download for Windows XP. Later, MS
built Windows

Defender into Vista and Windows 7.

In 2005, Microsoft also bought a company called Sybari and turned Sybari's
antivirus product into a corporate AV suite - Microsoft Forefront. Many
companies

are still running Forefront.

Microsoft then created a free, consumer/small-business version of Forefront
and called it Microsoft Security Essentials. If you download and install MSE
on a PC that has Windows Defender (whether manually installed on XP or baked
into Vista and Win7), it automatically disables the Windows Defender user
interface and takes over Defender's functions - MSE effectively supersedes
Windows Defender.

It now appears that Microsoft is recycling the Windows Defender name, but
none of the original WD code. Windows President Steve Sinofsky, who's in the

thick of finishing Windows 8, stated in a Building Windows 8
blog,
With Windows 8, we are extending the protections provided by Defender to
address a broader range of potential threats. He added that Win8 will have
improvements
to Windows Defender to provide you with real-time protection from all
categories of malware ..

In short, there's every indication that Windows Defender Offline is based on
the Forefront/Microsoft Security Essentials code base and has absolutely
nothing
in common with the old Windows Defender - regardless of what you may have
read in the computer press.

Regardless of its history, Windows Defender Offline's primary advantage is
as a self-booting anti-malware system. Try it out!

JoAnne,

Read the Jaws help on laptop keyboard layouts. Basically, the main changes
are caps-loc is the Jaws key, and the Jaws-to-Pc, Pc-to-Jaws key, and mouse
emulations are what's changed.

Generally, you will still have your control and alt keys, although you may
only have them on the left side. There may also be a function switch key
there. All laptops aren't layed out the same so use your Jaws key with the
1 to turn keyboard help on to help you identify keys.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Uverse Settings

BlankOk, I have to make a bit of a correction. Apparently, with the new
Inbound.att.net and Outbound.att.net settings, it doesn't matter what
your ultimate mail domain is with UVerse.

@ameritech.net, @att.net, @bellsouth.net, @flash.net, @nvbell.net,
@pacbell.net,

@prodigy.net, @sbcglobal.net, @snet.net, @swbell.net, @wans.net.

table with 2 columns and 7 rows
Email Program Settings Field:
Enter:
Incoming (POP)
inbound.att.net
Outgoing (SMTP)
outbound.att.net(requires authentication)
Incoming mail server:
POP3
Incoming/Outgoing User Name:
Full ATT email address, including domain (e.g., t...@att.net,
t...@bellsouth.net)

Incoming mail port #:
995, secure connection (SSL) checked
Outgoing mail port #
465, secure connection (SSL) checked
table end

Note: When updating the secure server settings, check the SSL check box
first and then update the port number if necessary.

Back to my instructions ...

Checking the SSL box will automatically change your port to 995. Verify
that before you save the account.

Under the servers tab using Outlook Express, after you enter the
password, make sure the first box using secure password authentication is
not checked, but check the second box Server requires authentication.

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

[JAWS-Users] O E Uverse issue, fixed!

2012-04-11 Thread Rich
Hi all;
   Finally,
After my wife spoke, once again, to an ATT tech, we got our problem solved.

We had to change the server incoming address to inbound.att.net and outgoing
to outbound.att.net. The word inbound and outbound were key.

We checked requiring authentication box but, not the first authentication
choice.
Under advanced, the port is 465 and out is 995. both have ssl checked.

It is amazing that talking to a helpful person made such a difference in a 30
minute conversation with an English speaking person versus the 3 hour ordeal
talking to a person I could barely understand and to be told I needed to pay
$50.00 for tech help since it was a software problem that Att did not support.
Even after the problem occurred because of upgrading to Uverse.

Again, I am greatly appreciative of all the help my JAWS comrades have provided.

Thanks so much!

Rich
