[JAWS-Users] Internet Clipboard Security, Is Your Clipboard Information Safe?
Hi All, I ran across this note from a fellow list member thought it should be shared. At the bottom of these instructions are more notes about clipboard security with IE7 IE8. From: davidwhitehead1...@cogeco.ca Clipboard Security Clipboard Security Test - Internet Explorer If you are using Internet Explorer as your default browser, there is a good chance that despite being up to date with all your hot fixes, you are vulnerable to a clipboard exploit where a web site can grab whateverdata was last copied to your clipboard. This can be achieved by simply visiting the page. As soon as you access the page, theexploiter can grab whatever you last copied. This can be very dangerous if the last thing you copied before visiting the site was sensitive information such as credit card numbers, passwords, or other personal data. The clipboard in Windows is where anything you copy, whether it be data or images, is stored. You can access and view your clipboard content easily by entering clipbrd in the Run box and clicking Ok. The actual file is located in your System directory. Here is a test page that will let you know if you are protected from this exploit or not. To see if you are vulnerable: 1. Select (highlight) some text, Do a control C to copy the text to the clipboard. 2. Then click here: http://www.angelfire.com/on3/vxdoin2/clipbrdtest.html If you see the text you copied on the page, then you are vulnerable and should follow these instructions immediately. Note: Use a website / webpage other than your homepage when following the steps below. Hello there; these following steps; are for users of IE8, regardless of what operating system your using; try the following; 1, While on a website / webpage other than your homepage, internet explorer, 2, alt+t=tools, O=options, 3, now ctrl+tab=security tab, 4, tab and enter on, security custom... 5, now you need to navigate way down the page and look for; Allow Programmatic clipboard access disable should be off, touch spacebar, and Allow Programmatic clipboard access disable will be on. now tab to okay, and say yes to changing security. again tab to okay / close and press enter. Re: [JAWS-Users] Internet Clipboard Security, Is Your Clipboard Information Safe?
My system prompted me that the web site was trying to access my clipboard and asked if I wanted to allow it or not. When I said no then nothing was displayed, but when I allowed it then the contents of my clipboard did display on the screen. Must be a security setting, further review is in order, thank you for forwarding this information. I didn't allow or not allow to see what I had copied, but rather hit the escape key. However, when I hit the escape key I was told I was very vulnerable and I was told I'd see what I had copied. I did not see what I had copied; not even with the JAWS cursor, unless it's a graphic. Hmm. Re: [JAWS-Users] Internet Clipboard Security, Is Your Clipboard Information Safe?
This came out several years ago, as I recall. I first saw a note about it in Windows Secrets probably at least eight years ago. I think Microsoft issued some patches for it in IE6 and IE7 in late 2006. Also, I think if you disable scripts in Java under customized security, you can eliminate this hack. There was a security bulletin released by Adobe regarding flash player in 2008 APSB08-18. But, again, I am not sure why Mike brought this issue up now, as this appears to be pretty old news. Take my advice, I don't use it anyway. [JAWS-Users] Reading comments in large documents (UNCLASSIFIED)
Classification: UNCLASSIFIED Caveats: NONE all: I have a document where JAWS does not read all comments but does read some, in say-all mode, but does if you use the cursor arrows to move through it. I have comment reading turned on and set to both text and reference. Does anyone know if this is a bug? And, since cursoring through large documents is a less than optimal way to spend a work day, is there possibly a way to leap to comments? Thanks in advance for any suggestions, this caused a very bad thing to happen to me today. William S.
