It is certainly true that SSD drives also get some level of
defragmentation over time. However, since the memory is retrieved
directly and there is no seek time, this does not effect performance.
Additionally, so far the number of times you can write to each memory
location is far, far less than current hard drives, it is not
recommended to defragment SSD drives. I suppose those who have phobias
about cleanliness, might want to defrag occasionally, just for sanity.

Hi Jim,

First, you need to download each individual voice you want to use and
install it. A shortcut to the download page should eventually be
available in the Web Resources submenu in the JAWS help menu, but it
isn't there yet. The direct link to download the voices is as follows:
http://www.freedomscientific.com/downloads/Vocalizer/VocalizerDirect.asp

There are two versions of each voice - high premium, and premium. I'd
recommend downloading the high premium voice unless you have a
compelling reason to do otherwise (the premium voices are smaller, so
if space is a concern then that might be a reason you'd want to
download them). Freedom Scientific didn't include all of the voices as
part of the main JAWS installer since otherwise the installer would be
in the multiple gigabytes.

Once all the voices you want to try are installed, restart JAWS, and
they'll show up in a new voice profile called Vocalizer Direct. You
can of course create multiple profiles to suit your tastes, such as
one for each Vocalizer voice.

Best,

Grant

That is still on the list of things to finish. It will be there for the next

And get the voices from there. Once you install the voices, you can set up new

I'll go get the V voices and see what happens.

Re: [JAWS-Users] problem with my cursor constantly jumping

2012-09-12 Thread Jo Luland

Hi All,
I recall this topic was discussed not too long ago. I even suggested to
another individual having the same problem that he/she contact FS. I know
that was done and I did too. At that time, I was given a solution which
didn't really remedy the situation. Today the problem was really excessive
so I called FS again. I was told that the problem was a Windows problem and
that JAWS has nothing to do with the cursor jumping to another position. Has
anyone else experienced this and if so, how does one control the cursor in
windows? I'm running Windows7 and latest version of JAWS13. I'm reluctant
about calling FS again since I was emphatically told that this is not a JAWS
problem. Any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Jo

Hi Sue

I use jaws 13 with live mail.

when I write an email, I start the way you do,

control N for new email.

then rather than shift tab to get to the contact list, enter the first
letter of the name you want, such as E for elaine. as you are already in the

then if you shift tab, then tab again, basically you are going back then
forward again to the email address edit field, you will see an address
there. for some reasons jaws doesn't see the address unless you do that.

I think it depends on how you have live mail set up, for example, i've
turned off quite a lot of things within the settings. it makes live mail
more like windows mail. at first I hated live mail but now it's working as
as I like it.

once you have found the email address you wanted, then you can tab over to

Re: [JAWS-Users] windos live mail headache please help?

2012-09-12 Thread Sharon Gosling
I find it easier to use the nicknames. I have assigned one word nicknames
to my main contacts so when I want to send an email I just type in the
nicknames such as sister, aunt, susie, lgh or whatever. I just have to
separate them with commas. When I tab away and back to the BCC or TO field
the whole name and address is there. The main aggravation is that Jaws
won't let me go back and fix a misspelled nickname.

But it works well and much easier than searching through the contacts list.

Re: [JAWS-Users] windos live mail headache please help?

2012-09-12 Thread Hans Pauli Sundstein

Hi Susie.

You can't get first letter navigation to work in Windows Live Mail.
But if you type in the first two or three letters of the receiver's name,
and press tab once, than you can get reaad the name that the contactlist has
found by pressing insert+up arrow.

It would bee nice, if Freedom Scientific would make the script for Windows
Live mail better accessible, so when pressing the first letters in the "To"
or "CC" field, than Jaws automatically reads the name that is found by the
contactlist.

You are asking for another problem by showing the name of the sender.
Be sure that the window is maximized.
Next, goto the view menu, and on the lower ribbon activate the column
button.
Here you can customize how the screen has to appear when messages are
received in your inbox.

Hope this helps.

Hans Pauli.

I don’t believe first letter navigation works in live mail.

I think your friend needs to turn off her view pane to solve her problem.

hi how do you turn on first letter navigation ? it does not work, like I
have two people with the first name of D, and in out look I could bring up
the first one, and if I want the second one for example, I have a debbie, a
dawn, and a dalphinlilly, and I want to write to dalphinlilly I should be
able to type in d, and arrow down. but here just the first letter comes up!
so how do I turn it on? salso how do you get Jaws to read the incoming name,
it just reads the subject, my friend has been asking that question for weeks
with know answer! thanks so much sue

Hi Sue

I use jaws 13 with live mail.

when I write an email, I start the way you do,

control N for new email.

then rather than shift tab to get to the contact list, enter the first
letter of the name you want, such as E for elaine. as you are already in the
address field.

then if you shift tab, then tab again, basically you are going back then
forward again to the email address edit field, you will see an address
there. for some reasons jaws doesn't see the address unless you do that.

I think it depends on how you have live mail set up, for example, i've
turned off quite a lot of things within the settings. it makes live mail
more like windows mail. at first I hated live mail but now it's working as
as I like it.

once you have found the email address you wanted, then you can tab over to
the other fields.

personally I wouldn't bother with going to the contact list unless you have
too. this way works for me and I hope it is helpful to you.

if you need any further help, dont hesitate to contact me.

hugs

Elaine

2012-09-12 Thread Lois Butterfield

Hi Suzy.

After control N, if you type the first part of the name or the e-mail
address, you should be able to tab once and hear nothing. If that happens,
you can tab again, then shift tab and hear who it's going to. What do you
hear when you tab once?

hi how do you turn on first letter navigation ? it does not work, like I
have two people with the first name of D, and in out look I could bring up
the first one, and if I want the second one for example, I have a debbie, a
dawn, and a dalphinlilly, and I want to write to dalphinlilly I should be
able to type in d, and arrow down. but here just the first letter comes up!
so how do I turn it on? salso how do you get Jaws to read the incoming name,
it just reads the subject, my friend has been asking that question for weeks
with know answer! thanks so much sue

I think it depends on how you have live mail set up, for example, i've
turned off quite a lot of things within the settings. it makes live mail
more like windows mail. at first I hated live mail but now it's working as
as I like it.

once you have found the email address you wanted, then you can tab over to
the other fields.

personally I wouldn't bother with going to the contact list unless you have
too. this way works for me and I hope it is helpful to you.

if you need any further help, dont hesitate to contact me.

hugs

Elaine
