[JAWS-Users] need JFW keystroke to go from IE address bar to web page

2012-12-10 Thread Robert Arrabito
Hi all,

I'm using JFW V. 14 under Windows 7 running on a 64-bit Dell PC. I would
like to find out how to go from the Internet Explorer address bar to the web
page that I was viewing prior to going to the address bar using alt-d. I
couldn't find the JFW keystroke on the FS webpage and hence I'm writing to
the list for help. Thanks.

screen-reader users click here to turn off Google Instant hit enter, and
then go on my merry way.
I always hit the H 3 times to get to the search results, and have no problem

Sounds like you are having a similar problem I've had. I'll be reading
down a page then it stops and when I try to move through the page, it
says blank blank blank. Doesn't matter what you do, it doesn't fix
itself. I usually end up restarting the browser, then if that doesn't
fix it, quit and restart jaws.

[JAWS-Users] starting jaws at the log on screen?

2012-12-10 Thread adam morris

Hi all,

running win7 and j14.

I've just got a new laptop and decided to password the machine.

should I have jaws start at the login screen as well as for the current
user, or should it be just for the login screen?

I am the only user of the machine, there is only my account as
administrator.

the machine is running very slow, taking half a minute for jaws to speak
after executing commands, not sure if having jaws start at both login
screen and for user is the cause.

Re: [JAWS-Users] starting jaws at the log on screen?

2012-12-10 Thread Bubba
This is a preface and you can do it or not! Some don't do login at the login
screen they just choose to start JFW after login! This does make a quicker
login. But you have to be able to know when windows come up and you need
site or listen to your computer very closely. Or just give a count and if
nothing is wrong then if you have it setup for ctrl Alt delete then you can
do this and put in your password. Or a another choice is just not to have a
login password. Then you know when windows come up. HTH

hello there;
if you press the alt+d=addressbar you can then just press the f6key

ctrl+f6 will place you on the top of page, shift+f6 places you at the
bottom.

Re: [JAWS-Users] starting jaws at the log on screen?

2012-12-10 Thread Mike O'Brien
Hi

Which flavor of JAWS 14 are you running on your laptop, 918 or 1036. You
can find the build level of JAWS your running by going to the About dialog
from the JAWS help menu or just the JAWS menu if you're running from the
system tray. When JAWS is started at logon, I have always seen delays like
you describe on the logon screen before JAWS will even start speaking, but
it runs fine after you are logged on. However, when I installed the latest
JAWS 14 update, 1036, I got delays like that after being logged on and had
to back off to 918. FS is working on the latest update, which currently is
not available.

I've just got a new laptop and decided to password the machine.

should I have jaws start at the login screen as well as for the current
user, or should it be just for the login screen?

I am the only user of the machine, there is only my account as
administrator.

the machine is running very slow, taking half a minute for jaws to speak
after executing commands, not sure if having jaws start at both login screen
and for user is the cause.

Christmas Is Coming Very Soon

Christmas is coming soon, coming very soon.
Just like the moon arising, Christmas is blossoming on the horizon.
Just a few days remaining, let us worship him, oh how exciting.
Jesus was born to lead the way, he died to take our sins away.
Jesus is the only light, oh how He shines so bright.
Christmas is coming soon, coming very soon.
Let us put all our problems aside, and worship Jesus our guide.
As we rush here and there, let us take the time for others, to show them we
care.
Jesus is the reason, let us bless everyone during this Christmas season.

Yes, it will update automatically and yes it has real-time scan on by
default and yes you can set it up to run scans on a schedule if wanted! I
use it and it is totally accessible and easy to use and understand. HTH

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Auto updates and real time scan feature in MSFT
Security essentials 4

hello,
JFW 14, Win7 and thinking of installing Microsoft Security essentials
version 4 as the antivirus anti malware software on my new Win7 laptop.
For each of the 2 Qs below would appreciate steps to enable each in
MSE4.pprcieate very First, Does MSE version 4 which is the latest,
automatically install its regular updates and also automatically update the
frequent engine updates?
Secondly, does it have a real time scan setting or do I need to run scans
using MSE4 manually each time?

Thanks much indeed!
Prateek

2012-12-10 Thread tim
Yes, it will update as long as your computer is on for it to do the
task. If not then it will show unprotected and you will have to do it
manually. Witch is not hard. When you open it up the update button
will be right there just enter on it.
Now it has active scan and will scan at the time of install unless
you change it in the options.

2012-12-10 Thread John Justice
I must agree with Rose, here. I have had no trouble with Jaws 14 and Office
2010. However, each of us may use the software in a different manner. The
latest update seems to have corrected some of the more challenging elements.

Computer problems are a complex element, made of two parts computer system
issues, two parts user misunderstanding and one part a mystery which is
rarely solved without tedium, blood, sweat and amazing luck. (author

I am using Jaws and outlook 2010 here and have few problems, in fact really
no problems after we got the first upgrade of the beta.

I hate to be a pane, but as far as I'm concerned Jaws 14 is currently
unusable with Outlook 2010. There are so many instances where Outlook 2010
and jaws don't respond, that in my view Jaws 14 is currently unusable with
Outlook 2010. I know this has been reported since the current release came
out, but I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that it's about time fs came
up with a fix. After all we've all been waiting since the back end of
October.

Cheers

Alex

I don't want a printed copy for obvious reasons, and I wanted to know more
than the PTO status which I eventually managed to bring up for once.

This is true and the way around it is to just call your personnel department
and get them to print you out a copy or just tell you how much time you have
. Or get a visual person help you click the link. No this is not ideal but
we have to do what we have to do! JST

Well, it is a Multi-Hospital system with 30,000 employees give or take, I am
the only employee who uses Jaws, so obviously they are not going to cater to
me when it comes to design, and it is my experience that almost anything
employee or healthcare related is becoming more and more graphical every
day. Of course when I started there we still used plain old Selectric
typewriters, LOL dating myself I suppose.

Tried that several times, have asked the administrator to fix the link, they
say it isn't their product and I should get my husband to do it for me.
However, I pressed alt control enter on it yesterday, it told me line
23 and
I did something and it actually opened. Nice to actually see my paycheck
info again. I even discovered that I have 223 hours of paid-time off, I
knew it was around 200 hours.
Don't know if I can reproduce what I did to make it work yesterday or not.

Can you turn on the jaws cursor and find the link that way? If you can
locate it with the jaws cursor you could try clicking it.

How does one make Jaws hover over a link to open it, my employee self-serve
page has one and I can't access it, it is called myself and so far, I have
to get someone to come mouse it for me, not particularly what I'd like to do
since some personal information is supposed to be stored there. Is this a
mouse-over even if it isn't announced as such?

Also using Jaws 9 at work.
