[JAWS-Users] WLM12 and attachments

2013-03-29 Thread Lisa D Porter

Hi,
I've looked through the guide and either missed it or it wasn't covered
in there, but I can't see when attachments are in emails. I know with OE
there was a setting for how they are handled but I didn't see this
anywhere under options. Can someone please tell me how to get
attachments displayed so I can open or save them? Thanks in advance.

Hi, Jenny,

I'm a learner on this list, not a teacher, so hopefully someone else can
give you a more complete answer.

But on occasions when I've lost access to YouTube material, it usually
turned out to be a problem with Adobe Flash. So I'm guessing that program
needs to be installed if not present, or updated if it is there already.

Good luck! JH

2013-03-29 Thread Ann Byrne

1. Send yourself a message with an attachment.
2. When you receive it, press insert+v to get to JAWS quick settings
and set graphics to all.
3. Go to your message, and with the JAWS cursor locate the graphic to
the left of your message with the attachment. (Someone said it's graphic 160)
4. Press insert+g to get to the auto graphics labeler, and type
'attachment', or whatever word you want to hear when there is one.

5. Press enter to finalize it.

Good luck!

Are there things he can do in win8 to make the experience more

Hi Lisa,
as Ann has already said, unfortunately you need to manually label the graphic,
because this hasn't been done in the Jaws script for the program - I've no idea
why not.
If you need any more details, then it's covered in the guide. Go to the
customizing windows live mail section, and there's a sub section on labelling
graphics.

[JAWS-Users] Enterprise Project Manager And JAWS 14

2013-03-29 Thread Charles Nicol
Hi,

Does anyone out there have any experience of using Enterprise Project
Manager, an application which sits on the Sharepoint platform, with JAWS?

I am using JAWS 14 and my company requires me to submit my timesheet
information via EPM. Whilst part of the page is accessible, the table grid,
where time is to be allocated against given tasks, is rendered, it appears,
using JavaScript and is completely inaccessible. When moving around in the
grid, JAWS merely says blank, blank.

If someone else has had more success with EPM, could you please get in
touch, particularly if any JAWS Scripts have been written to get around the
accessibility problems?

I did find an option to export my timesheet to EXCEL and this worked
absolutely fine. I was then able to fill out my time on the spreadsheet,
however, surprise surprise, no functionality has been provided to import the
EXCEL details back into EPM. It appears that to click a mouse into given
cells, type in a time value and then click to the next cell, is the way to
go, however, means that I have to write out my timesheet details and send
them to a sighted person, who is then to manually input them on my behalf.
This is not a good experience at all and shows that many software vendors
hardly comprehend what accessibility is, far less knowing how to implement
it in their applications.

I have played around with Flexible Web functions within JAWS 14, hoping to
get a better experience, but no joy.

Any ideas or suggestions from anyone?

Many Thanks,

Charlie Nicol.

SharePoint is simply a way of storing documents etc, and it's not inherently
inaccesssible. However, how accessible it is depends on what kinds of
information you're trying to access and what views are employed by whoever
created the site and the documents themselves. I'm currently working through
a situation where JAWS absolutely does not present major pieces of pages I
need to access on a regular basis.
I've spoken to Freedom Scientific about SharePoint, and they understand it

So, bottom line is maybe it'll work for you, maybe it won't.

Good luck, you'll likely need a lot of it.

[JAWS-Users] Stopping IE9 10 From Blocking Downloads

2013-03-29 Thread Mike B.
Hi All,

Is there a way of turning off the Infromation Bar to stop IE9 10 from
blocking downloads like there is in IE8 earlier? Thank you very much.
Take care.

2013-03-29 Thread Rose Combs
Well I had to jump through hoops to get this, CNET does not make it easy to
get something, but then it may because I seldom go there, got the one with
their installer first, could never find the next or accept buttons, saw a
direct download and to the program, then had a heck of a time making it go
to the system tray and getting it to actually accept Scottsdale, Arizona
instead of New York , what a difference in temperature between to two
cities but after messing around for more than an hour it is finally
displaying the city I live in and resides in the system tray. Once I got it
where it belonged and selected the city I need to see, it works great, don't
know about other locations just yet, may play more but not today.

2013-03-29 Thread Rose Combs
I use that site here also, but one oddity is when they write clear with a
50% chance of rain, how can it be clear and rain at the same time?

I also wish that I did not get duplicate warnings for heat, air quality,
winter storms etc, once is enough and then when I have all that I wish the
conditions were at the top of the screen since that is what generally is
mostly what I need to know, ten-day forecasts are really speculation, so I
don't like them at the top of the page and beyond the next couple to five
days are worthless or incorrect more than correct.

I like to know the temperature before leaving to let me know if for example
not to wear a coat when the afternoon is 85 although I needed on in the
morning when it was 35. Also helps to know if rain was expected that it is
or not raining when I must next go outside. My office is where I can't
actually year the rain.

Re: [JAWS-Users] IE10 Download Sounds

2013-03-29 Thread Rose Combs
Thanks, I know how to change a sound, or rather I did in Windows 98, have
not tried lately due to time constraints and the fact that I must use Jaws 9
at work and am using 14 at home. Some days since I have been stressed by
family illness especially I can't seem to figure out how to use either , and
operating systems are XP at work and 7 at home also, not that I can do
anything at work, it is so locked down that probably changing a system sound
there would not even be a possibility.

I fall behind a lot but refuse to put list mail on my iPhone, much prefer
Outlook 2010 and a real keyboard to deal with that. The address I set up
for my phone is a well-kept secret, only about four people have it and most
of the messages it gets are one I send from work with info I may need such
as phone numbers that I don't have already in my contacts.

I only noticed my message sound to tell me to press alt S is quiet because I
was on Bard site getting some books.

1. Open the sound dialog from the control panel.

4. tab to the sounds combo box. By default it's set to windows information

Re: [JAWS-Users] Reading columns in a Word document

2013-03-29 Thread Brian Lee
Hi Stephanie,

For newspaper style columns the keystroke Alt+DownArrow key usually moves
focus to the top of the next column. However, JAWS uses Alt+DownArrow to
read a next sentence. If you use a pass through keystroke followed by
Alt+DownArrow focus will move to the top of the next column. You can use
JAWS key with the number 3 on the alphanumeric row of keys followed by
Alt+DownArrow key if you want to move to the top of the next column. If you
use Alt+UpArrow after using JAWS key with the number 3 focus should move to
the top of the previous column. If you want to read the information in a
different column on the same line you should use the JAWS cursor. Route
JAWS cursor to PC cursor and move a word right or left until you find some
text in a different column. Do a left mouse button click (if using a
desktop press the second key from the left on the top row of the number pad,
if using a laptop keyboard configuration then use the caps lock key with the
number 8 on the alphanumeric row of keys). Put PC cursor back on and focus
should be in the other column on the same row.

It is kind of complicated but I think these steps should work for you.

Take care.

In the Word Options (Quick Settings, Insert+v dialogue) ensure that the
page, Section, and multiple column breaks checkbox is checked. A
keystroke used to create text (or newspaper style) columns is:
ctrl+Shift+enter.

It says I'm not in a table. I'm not finding how to move from one text
column to another. Pressing end then right arrow isn't working either.
Eek!

Is there a way of turning off the Infromation Bar to stop IE9 10

Hi Flor,

I tried playing around with different settings with the pop-up blocker
turned on but, I couldn't get it turned off completely like you can do in
IE8. In IE8, tools / options / security / customm..., you can totally stop
the information bar from appearing / speaking. But, that's okay, this was
more of a curiosity than a necessity. Thank you very much for telling me
where to go, in IE anyways! LOL, hahaha hahaha hahaha, LOL
Take care.

[JAWS-Users] Back up v Mirror Image?

2013-03-29 Thread Rich
Hi all,
I'm getting paranoid about a computer crash.
I was looking at Carbonite and saw some features as back up of files, also
a feature called mirror image.
What is the difference?
My goal is to protect my information in case of a crash.
Is there a way to save every program, file, document, e mail?
In case of a crash or, if I want to transfer my entire set up to another
computer.

What other options are there?
Ease of use is very important to me since I'm not too computer savvy
In addition, I should be putting things on an external hard drive, but I'm not
sure what information goes there. For example, can I back up all of the
programs that are in my program list?
Or, can I only back up documents and e mails?

Thanks for all of the insight to my questions!

Rich.

[JAWS-Users] FAQ ON Re: Stopping IE9 10 From Blocking Downloads

2013-03-29 Thread Flor Lynch

Mike,

That's true. This from the Notification Bar FAQ IN IE9:

Can I turn off the IE9 Notification bar?
No, but you can click the Close button on the right side of the bar make it
disappear. The bar will also disappear if you navigate away from the current
page.

[My comment: If you then navigate back to the current page, it willl
reappear in all of its

damned glory!]

Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft SharePoint (UNCLASSIFIED)

2013-03-29 Thread Annette Carr
My experiences with SharePoint 2007 has been the same as Stephan's. It is
really dependent on how the developer of the page has set up the page and
what features they have elected to use. Some SharePoint features are just
not accessible. SharePoint 2010 has some significant improvements, but
again a lot is dependent on the developer.

I agree, that luck is what you will most likely need when dealing with
SharePoint.

I've spoken to Freedom Scientific about SharePoint, and they understand it
has accessibility problems but claim they can't address them.
So, bottom line is maybe it'll work for you, maybe it won't.
Sometimes, you can export spreadsheets etc. and work on them using something
like Excel, then import them back into SharePoint.
Good luck, you'll likely need a lot of it.

here is a download link for the flash player the latest version, but u nead
1st to make sure that u don't have an older version already installed on
your system, u can check that by control panel / program and features, if u
find it uninstall it and install the new one from the the link :
http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/support/install_flash
_player_ax.exe
it should work after installing the new one..

But on occasions when I've lost access to YouTube material, it usually
turned out to be a problem with Adobe Flash. So I'm guessing that
program needs to be installed if not present, or updated if it is there
already.

 Good luck! JH
