So, while it looks like the beta will be available tomorrow Tuesday, here's
the link with the new features, fixes and enhancements included in JFW 15.
http://www.freedomscientific.com/downloads/magic/MAGic-whats-new.asp#upgrade

It's also available on FS's front page.
While I wasn't too excited about the upgrade since I figured it would be
mostly Windows 8 and touch screen centric, I am pleased with the fixes that
were supposedly addressed. Especially the third party braille display
driver
thing and foreign language stuff. Not to mention other details like rss
notification in Firefox and Outlook and IE bugs being squashed.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Unmuting Windows System Volume

2013-09-09 Thread Mike B.
Hi Min,

Have your friend try the following to put a mute/unmute shortcut on the
desktop & assign a keystroke to it.

1, go to desktop, Windows key+m,

2, press the keystroke, Ctrl+spacebar, To unselect all icons.

3, press the applications key, and down arrow and enter on, New sub menu.

4, now arrow and enter on, New shortcut.

5,Now type the following in the edit box,
sndvol
6, tab next, press enter.
You will see/hear;
sndvol.exe
Tab finish press enter.

Now, if you would like a hot-key,

1, desktop,
Press the letter "s" until you hear,
sndvol.exe.

2, now press alt+enter to bring up the properties,

3, tab until you hear;
Shortcut key none,
Here you could type "v"=volume or what ever letter you wish, Now press
enter.
So, alt+ctrl+v would bring up the sndvol dialog page,

Hope this helps.

Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Beta Release

2013-09-09 Thread Flor Lynch

A few years ago, a friend of mine who was using JAWS10 or 11 was able to
update/upgrade to the first or the subsequent public beta release of
JAWS12, although he didn't
have a SMA. If this has been changed, I welcome it, because I don't
think people should be auto-updating to a beta release of the new
version unless they've bought (or are intent to purchase) the new
version. It was a mite con fusing to him, when i told him he or his
worke would have to purchase the full version of the new version, and
that the betas would expire pretty soon.

Hi,
I don't agree, it is new version, it must be installed beta first, which
can
use authorization from 14, this will be updated, but not from 14 to 15.
this wasn't never in 13 and 12, when new update process was introduced.

I have tried Avg and Avast. Don't like either of them so went to MSE. It
works fine. Be aware if you tell it to do a full scan it may take a
while. It takes considerably longer than Avg or Avast, but the quick
scan is pretty good. I also use Malware Bytes Antimalware. You do have
to use the mouse to switch between tabs. In MSE, you don't need to use
the mouse at all. Hope this helps.

Hi,

Has anyone noticed that, sometimes, when you go into the word count in Word
2010, JAWS crashes? This happens pretty frequently with my system, which is
running latest build of JAWS 14 and Windows 8. When this happens, I cannot
dump JAWS. I have to run Narrator and use it to close the JAWS window, then
close Narrator, then restart JAWS. Also, when this happens, after I do the
Windows key + enter, to Start Narrator, it takes Narrator a couple minutes
to start, as though the whole system is very draggy. Just wondering if
anyone on the list has any thoughts before I contact FS tech support. Of
course, JAWS 15 may clear the whole thing up.

Thanks,

I have it set to ask me every time. I did notice that express burn is in the
list two times. That explaines why it shows up twice now how do I remove one
of them in the list?

You would have to go to control panel and then go to autoplay next
then there will be combo boxes that will allow you to choose what
happens when auto play shows up next after you are done making you're
selections tab to the okay button then press enter on the okay button.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Word Count in Word 2010

2013-09-09 Thread Kimsan
I just tried the word count through the ribbons and it did not crash;
however, I rarely use the ribbons for word count, so I do not have
experience with it crashing in that respect.
I would just use CTRL shift g if using the ribbons to perform a word count
keeps giving you problems.
Contact fs and let us know what they say to the reason of why it crashes
when using it through the ribbons.
Take care

Hi Kimsan,
I usually do it through the ribbons. I just did control shift G a couple
times and it did not crash. It doesn't do it every time that I am doing it
through the ribbons either, maybe once in twenty or thirty times. Do you
think that using the key shortcut as opposed to using the menus would make a
difference for some reason?
Thanks,

Thanks,

Scott Duck

2013-09-09 Thread Cristóbal
So, while it looks like the beta will be available tomorrow Tuesday, here's
the link with the new features, fixes and enhancements included in JFW 15.
http://www.freedomscientific.com/downloads/magic/MAGic-whats-new.asp#upgrade
It's also available on FS's front page.
While I wasn't too excited about the upgrade since I figured it would be
mostly Windows 8 and touch screen centric, I am pleased with the fixes that
were supposedly addressed. Especially the third party braille display driver
thing and foreign language stuff. Not to mention other details like rss
notification in Firefox and Outlook and IE bugs being squashed.

You have to first install the new SMA versions before the auto update
feature works. So version 14 looks for version 14 updates only.

Once the beta is installed, we intend on each update, including the release,
to be detected via Auto Updates going forward.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Can not find the drive with new devices.

2013-09-09 Thread Steve

Did you try add new hardware wizard?

The other thing that I've had issues with on one of my computers is that the
system doesn't recognize the USB hub. If you connect a device, you get the
chime but it does not recognize the device. If I run a system restore to
when I knew the things were working, it comes up fine again.

First, Rich, see this article from Microsoft and try the different methods
they suggest. Also note they have a related article for other workarounds
if the ones here ddon't work.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/871233

Another issue is that your computer may have OHCI in suspended state. YOu
can go here to have Microsoft automatically apply a registry change or you
can do it yourself

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314634

Just a couple suggestions.
Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

Hi all
I hope the subject line is accurate.
I have XP pro and 14.0.
I am unable to find devices I plug in to my USB port .
I go to "my computer" and I see a list that includes "C" drive and CD,
etc.
but , not, the new device I plug in to the front of the PC through a USB
port.
There is a USB hub.
When I go in to control panel and add new hardware, I see a bunch of
USB

items with useless labels.

I've looked through the items in the "C" drive but nothing looks like
the

device

The software has been installed, and I hear the "ding" when I plug the
different devices in.
I assume that whenever a device is plugged in to the USB, I would see it
listed as "F" drive or something like that, in "my computer".

I don't see anything listed when I hit insert F 10 or 11 either.
Thanks for any help.

I don't have this problem on my other PC that is XP home.

port drivers. Make sure that everything is unplugged from your USB ports
except for your keyboard & mouse if you use 1. These steps are for XP
users.

1. Go to system properties. Here are 3 ways to open System Properties.
A. Press the Windows Key + Pause Key.
B. Open the control panel, press the letter
S, until you land on System Properties, & press enter.
C. Go to your desktop, Highlight My Computer, Press Alt + emter key.

2. Control + Tab, 2 times to the Hardware Tab.

3. Tab 1 time to Device Manager / Device Manager button, press the
spacebar, & tab 1 time to your computer Tree View.

4. Arrow down this list to, Universal Serial Bus controllers, & press
right

arrow to open.

5. You need to uninstall every item in this list, reboot the computer, &
Windows will reinstall everything that you have uninstalled.

A. Arrow down the list to highlight 1 item at a time. With each item
highlighted, press your applications / context menu key.

B. Arrow down the list that opens & press enter on the Uninstall option.
Do

this on each item in the Universal Serial Bus controllers folder list.

C. After you have uninstalled all the items, Press Alt + F4 to close
everything, & reboot the computer.

When you reboot the computer Windows will reinstall all the drivers that
you

uninstalled earlier. Doing this got the USB Ports working again in this
particular instance. If your USB ports don't work after following the
steps

above, you
have more serious issues.
Take care.

Hi,
Try doing a windows e and after you have reached the c drive doing a
left

or
a right arrow to try and find those devices. Perhaps you have a view
enabled
that does not list the devices in a list.
If you still can not locate those devices perhaps try disconnecting any
USB
hub you may be using and plug the device directly into the USB port. If
you
can still not see the device, you may need to use software to access
the
device and not windows itself.
Hope that helps

Hi Rich,

Below are steps on how to delete / / remove / uninstall & reinstall your
USB
port drivers.

Take care.

What happens when you perform the keystroke CTRL shift g to perform a word
count. Does it still crash, as oppose to when accessing it through the
ribbons?

Thanks,

Scott Duck

Like I said in an earlier post, I figured no point in disagreeing with
anybody especially at 3:30 in the morning when the answer is coming out in a
couple of days.

I am quite aware the practice has always been that you can only update your
current version with the check for updates feature in the help menu.
Sometimes it's just easier to let folks have it their way and it will all
come out in the wash.

We have always had to install a new major version ourselves before ever
being able to update it. This in my opinion is a good practice to follow,
especially when it comes to beta software. Thanks and now that the fog has
cleared somewhat it's time for huge amounts of coffee.

2013-09-09 Thread Mike B.
Hi Rich,

Below are steps on how to delete / / remove / uninstall & reinstall your USB
port drivers.

4. Arrow down this list to, Universal Serial Bus controllers, & press right
arrow to open.

When you reboot the computer Windows will reinstall all the drivers that you
uninstalled earlier. Doing this got the USB Ports working again in this
particular instance. If your USB ports don't work after following the steps
above, you
have more serious issues.
Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Beta Release

2013-09-09 Thread David Ferrin

Regarding the installation of the public beta for 15...
You have to first install the new SMA versions before the auto update
feature works. So version 14 looks for version 14 updates only.

Once the beta is installed, we intend on each update, including the release,
to be detected via Auto Updates going forward.

Sorry, but for the past couple of years, I do recall that the beta shows in
JAWS updates when it is available, if you have the current full JAWS version
installed.

Hi,
I don't agree, it is new version, it must be installed beta first, which can
use authorization from 14, this will be updated, but not from 14 to 15.
this wasn't never in 13 and 12, when new update process was introduced.

Hi,
Even if you delete a program out of the add & remove; some programs leave a
foot print in the programs files in the C drive.

I just removed a roxio folder by pressing the delete key only to test
myself..

But,that command worked for me, Control + Shift + delete, if the delete key
didn't work in removing a left over foot print in the program files in the
past in XP, after trying the delete key first.

I wished Roxio didn't delete and I would have tried this command.

Later.

The keys control + alt + delete only brings up
the lock screen and change logged in user.
You want to look in the task tray and see if nero
is running and see if you can close it. Then go
to programs and features or add/remove and see if
there is any nero listed there. Try to remove it
there before deleting it from the program files.
Deleting from that folder will cause you problems
if not done from add/remove or programs and
features. The reason it won't let you delete it is because it is still
running.

this wasn't never in 13 and 12, when new update process was introduced.

Regarding the installation of the public beta for 15...
You have to first install the new SMA versions before the auto update feature
works. So version 14 looks for version 14 updates only.

Once the beta is installed, we intend on each update, including the release, to
be detected via Auto Updates going forward.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Beta Release

2013-09-09 Thread Dialup @ 56k

Beta releases to all and sundry?
IMO, this isn't a good idea.
In the wider community, beta testers are selected because of previous
experience in such matters.
A simple vested interest isn't usually enough for one to qualify for
such testing.

Maybe it's different with FS?

David.
Sorry, but for the past couple of years, I do recall that the beta shows in
JAWS updates when it is available, if you have the current full JAWS version
installed.

Nothing has changed for a long time. No doubt once the beta is
installed
then future updates along with the full version will come down using
check
for updates, but not before.

2013-09-09 Thread Marek Durila

Hi,
I don't agree, it is new version, it must be installed beta first, which
can use authorization from 14, this will be updated, but not from 14 to 15.
this wasn't never in 13 and 12, when new update process was introduced.
