Re: [JAWS-Users] Ribbons Navigation

2014-03-17 Thread Steve

That's because I don't think you are doing it correctly.

In ribbons, there is vertical navigation. When you scroll to Mailings,
don't press Enter. Arrow down. You should see two options then envelopes
and labels.

If you want to address an envelope, select that. If you want to print a
bunch of labels, select that and then go through the options.

I just tried ribbon navigation using JAWS 13, and I get the same results
on the Word 2007 Mailings tab as with JAWS 9. If I scroll to the Mailings
tab, then press tab once, I hear Microsoft Office Word Help. If I scroll
to Mailings, press Enter and then press Tab once, I hear Labels, just like
wit JAWS 9. If I then press Shift-Tab, I hear Envelopes. So no matter
what I do, Envelopes does not come up as the first option under Mailings.
Perhaps ribbon menus behave differently in XP than they do in Windows 7
and 8.

hello there;

well I do understand what your saying;
however, my only question is?
why are you pressing enter on the mailings tab?
once you've right arrow to mailings tab,
just use the tab key?
my only other thought would be, because your using an earlier version of
jaws,
I'm using jaws 15, I think I recall you saying your using jaws 9.

Please don't misunderstand. I only used the Mailings tab as an example
of
how navigating the ribbon menu can yield unpredictable results. I have
been

using the Alt-M, E shortcut keystroke ever since I began using Word 2007,
so

I am familiar with it. But if I use the alternate technique to get to
the

Envelopes option and I press Tab after hitting Enter on the Mailings tab,
the first thing I hear is Labels, not Envelopes. If I then press
Shift-Tab,

I hear Envelopes. Maybe this is just an unusual quirk, but there are
probably others just like it that I am not aware of.

what happens if;

also, have you tried the shortcut,
alt+m+e
so, alt+m=mailings,
e=envelope.

Your instructions don't work for me. When I Hit Enter on the Mailings
tab
in Word 2007 using JAWS 9, and then press tab, the first item I land on
is
Labels, not Envelopes. Intuitively, you would think that by continuing
to

press the tab key, I would eventually land on the Envelopes option. But
this is not the case. The only way I can reach Envelopes is to press
Shift-Tab from the Labels option. Of course, a sighted person could see
the

juxtaposition of the Labels and Envelopes options. But there is no easy
way

for a blind person to find it unless he is clever enough to experiment
with
various key combinations and finds it by accident, or is told how to
find

it. That's why the JAWS virtual menu feature was developed. By the way,
did
you know that the popular Envelope Wizard feature from earlier versions
of
Word is not located on any Word 2007 menus, but can be launched only
with

the "secret" key combination Alt-T, then E, Z? Does hiding a popular
feature like this make any sense?

if I were wanting to print out an envelope,
using word 2007,

1, menu right arrow until you hear mailing tab,
now, use the tab key, the first press of the tab key you will see/hear,
envelope.
now, press enter.
or, within the document,

you don't press enter on the mailings tab,
however, if your using the jaws virtual ribbon feature,

then after going to the menu,
right arrow to mailings tab, now press enter,

I don't use the jaws ribbon feature, so, I can use the shortcut keys.

Re: [JAWS-Users] VIPRE antivirus

2014-03-17 Thread Lenny McHugh
Because it is jaws friendly that is the mane reason that I went with it. I
also saw some testing reviews where it was rated the best. I do not think
that really matters the top 5 or 6 all are good. The other reason was the
support. It is in Florida and I do not have a language barrier problem and
the support is available a few hours every day but not 24 hours. They also
will not charge to remove a virus if necessary. But the main reason was to
be able to use it with jaws. Also the price was not bad. $89 for 2 computers
for a period of 3 years. Their support was great. They quickly submitted the
ultragroups.us as a false positive for me since I was having a problem.

Is there a key stroke for reading HTML. For some reason I have not been
able to read certain messages. For instance any of the e mails on Lenny's
Viper troubles. Any hints or tips are appreciated.

Thanks, Bob

[JAWS-Users] BraillePen 12 Auto-Advance

2014-03-17 Thread Flor Lynch

Hi.

You want it to auto-advance with JAWS?
So, Check your JAWS Default Keeyboard manager - JAWSKey+8, Ctrl+Shift+D.
Then press tab key once into the list view, where you'll find a list of
functionalities. Press br for "braille", and under it you may find
"braille Auto-Advance". Is there a keystroke listed for that? If not,
then you can assign a dedicated keystroke to it, probably using a couple
of keys from the BraillePen 12 itself. To start the dialogue, you may
press alt+a for "Add..."

(I don't myself have a braillePen 12. I have a Focus40 Blue. Also a
Focus14 Blue paired with iPhone.)

Subject: [JAWS-Users] back on the list with questions

Hi listers. I sent this message last night right after I subscribed,
and

never did see it post, so don't know if it did.

My name is Ted Phillips. I live in Calgary Alberta Canada. I think I
was

on this list years ago but unsubscribed because I was getting too many
messages from too many lists. Now for my questions.

I just bought a slightly used braille pen 12 and am wanting to know if
anyone on the list knows how to make it auto advance like some of the
other
braille displays? I want to read without having to use the braille
panning

keys.

Next, if there is someone on the list that is using a braille pen 12
with
jaws that will communicate with me off list, I am wanting to find out
such

things as updating, and whether it can be done by me, and if I need to
update it.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks all

I must point out again since you are in effect a new comer that this is not
a very descriptive subject line.

I might have deleted it myself if it weren't for the fact I have to read all
the messages that come across my desk.

One thing's for sure. If you sent it for the first time last night, you've
got to be more patient when waiting for responses. Never expect immediate
assistance from any postings to Email lists for a number of reasons. People
may not know anything about your questions, as is the case with me in this
set of queries you've sent. Also, people might not check their inboxes for
a few days, so haven't read your post yet. Give a few days, at least,

No, it probably didn't reach the list. I've read all of the emails that
came to it last night. . And, also, there is a procedure whereby any new

Mike,

I think I may have tried that option, i.e., used the native office2010
sounds, but I wasn't happy with the results anyhow. the office97.exe will do
what you would want, I think, and have no effect outside of MS office.

Hi all
I hope it is OK to ask this here. I am using Jaws and recently bought my
Windows 8.1 machine. I had my local tech guy help set things up. He put all
the things I normally use like Word, Outlook, Internet etc. on the desktop
and told me not to go near the start screen as it is not accessible. He
knows a little about Jaws but not a lot. Seeing mention of the weather app
caused me to have a bit of a look around on the start screen and I wonder
how accessible it is with Jaws as I'd like to be making use of it if some
things are accessible. I'm not sure where to start though. I found weather
bug as the weather had been mentioned here and got through an agreement for
its use but it lands on Auckland our main city and I can't tell if you can
change where it looks. I'm sure you can so wondered if anyone has any tips
about using things on the start screen if it is in fact usable. Can we also
use the touch feature on the screen itself? If this is too broad to be
asking on this list just tell me and I'll ask elsewhere. As I am using Jaws
15 though I thought it should be OK to ask at least whether the start screen
is accessible even if that's all I can find out. I shall continue to play
with tabbing and arrowing around but am wondering if there are shortcuts.
Cheers
Paula.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Ribbons Navigation

2014-03-17 Thread Gerald Levy

I just tried ribbon navigation using JAWS 13, and I get the same results on
the Word 2007 Mailings tab as with JAWS 9. If I scroll to the Mailings tab,
then press tab once, I hear Microsoft Office Word Help. If I scroll to
Mailings, press Enter and then press Tab once, I hear Labels, just like wit
JAWS 9. If I then press Shift-Tab, I hear Envelopes. So no matter what I
do, Envelopes does not come up as the first option under Mailings. Perhaps
ribbon menus behave differently in XP than they do in Windows 7 and 8.

hello there;

well I do understand what your saying;
however, my only question is?
why are you pressing enter on the mailings tab?
once you've right arrow to mailings tab,
just use the tab key?
my only other thought would be, because your using an earlier version of
jaws,
I'm using jaws 15, I think I recall you saying your using jaws 9.

what happens if;

also, have you tried the shortcut,

Your instructions don't work for me. When I Hit Enter on the Mailings
tab
in Word 2007 using JAWS 9, and then press tab, the first item I land on
is
Labels, not Envelopes. Intuitively, you would think that by continuing
to

press the tab key, I would eventually land on the Envelopes option. But
this is not the case. The only way I can reach Envelopes is to press
Shift-Tab from the Labels option. Of course, a sighted person could see
the

juxtaposition of the Labels and Envelopes options. But there is no easy
way

for a blind person to find it unless he is clever enough to experiment
with
various key combinations and finds it by accident, or is told how to find

Mike,

I think I may have tried that option, i.e., used the native office2010

Hi Flor,

I do have Office 97 sounds installed but, I think I may have figured
out
what is happening, after spending time on my iBarstool deeply
pondering the

situation! Yeah right! LOL LOL

The, process complete, task sound assigned only works when opening a
document that's already been saved but, not when opening a new
document. I
don't know which sound task to assign to a new document but, I would
assume
that it would be , open program, in the list tree view but, I sure as
hell

don't want some sound going off whenever I open a program! LOL LOL

I could try using the dictionary manager but, that ain't happening
tonight!

If you have a different idea I'm all ears. Thank you very much for
your

input & reply.
Take care.

Mike,

I found that the only Sounds pack that I could find, which worjks
with
office 2010 (Home/Student Edition), is the Office97 Sounds.exe file.
I

googled to ascertain this, and folk confirmed that later sounds packs
don't work with it. (Not sure if it's specifically Word97 Sounds.exe
or office 97Sounds.exe .)
Good luck.
