Re: [JAWS-Users] malwarebytes 2.0315!
According to a knowledgeable techie on another list who has tried Malware Bytes 2.0.3, it is impossible to quarantine or remove any detected threats because this part of the program remains totally inaccessible. So while it may be possible to get MB 2.0.3 to perform a scan, there is apparently no way to remove any detected threats without sighted help. So unless somebody has been able to successfully quarantine or remove detected threats with MB 2.0.3, MB 1.75 remains the last fully accessible version. Gerald, Malware Bytes 2.0315 is the initial release that everyone is calling simply 2.03. When you open the program, and tab down to the Dashboard item, you can then left or right arrow through the different tabs, and then tab down in each tab to change your settings, schedule your scans, etc. Like the 2015 version of Vipre, we are not just saying that it is accessible to get other people to download and install it, these programs are accessible just the way they are. Sonetimes one has to do a little work and investigating to figure these things out. One cannot expect to have everything handed to them on a plate expecting it to work in a perfectly accessible manner. Everyone should put out a little effort and try to make these programs work for them. I do not know everyone's story on this list, but I lived for 45 years with my sight, then had to adapt to living without it, and just as in my profession as an engineer before, I am still finding ways to do the things that sometimes seem undoable to most people, and the first rule is that one cannot take things at face value, but must look at them from every angle to find the opening to the solution. I realize that Mike B's friend Mr Cusson is working diligently to try to get the Vipre development team to change the program to be shout in your face accessible, but this is not always required. I have a friend at Malware Bytes, William Roland, who kept me up to date on the progress of the release of version 2.0315, and he notified me when it was released, asking me to evaluate it and send back any further comments concerning the accessibility of the program. I had about 4 items to report back to him about, and was promised that these would be addressed in the next release. I also told him that, for the most part, the program is plenty accessible for a blind person to use. Please know that I am willing to help anyone who cannot get these programs to work for them, it only takes a little direction to get someone headed down the right path. Re: [JAWS-Users] malwarebytes!
I understand you just fine. Perhaps you don't understand me. I never claimed that I could not get Malware Bytes 2.0.3 to initiate a scan, which I have no trouble accomplishing, although I ultimately had to roll back to version 1.75 because scans tended to abort prematurely for no apparent reason on my XP system. Of course, there is no way to determine how easy it is to quarantine or remove detected threats unless you actually encounter any, and in the five years I have been using Malware Bytes, I have only encountered detected threats two or three times. Have you been able to quarantine or remove detected threats yourself using MB 2.0.3? If so, please explain the steps to accomplish this. Quite frankly, I prefer Super Anti Spyware anyway which detects tracking cookies and trojans that Malware Bytes overlooks. [JAWS-Users] JFW question
I was just wondering in the new JfW16 they are now doing what I call home use SMA . It is cheaper than the commercial SMA.So how is it going to know if you are using a work computer or not? It seems to me it would be hard for it to tell. Especially if you use a dongle. Unless they are going to invade your privacy .I just wonder wouldn't it have been better to just lower the overall cost to any individual buying it to the 125 bucks and if a company or organization is getting it then the cost could be more. But I would think just lower the cost to say 175 bucks for everyone . But enough of the ramp does anyone know how it is going to know what computer you are using? Re: [JAWS-Users] Vipre REG Files Explained
Hi Leonard, Those 2 files have nothing to do with 2014 updating to 2015. They just make navigating the Scan Options tab in Settings much easier. What you want to do is open Vipre, press the, F12 key, this is the shortcut key to get to Support / Tools, now, shift + tab, a few times until you get to, Install beta updates, make sure this is unchecked. Now, this will only stop 2014 from updating to the 2015 Beta so, to stop 2014 from updating to the official release of 2015 you need to run the, say no to 2015 prompt, registry file. Mike, I wonder if it is a change in the version. I am still running 3.12.2030 I think the number is. Also, did you check the box in the Advance Options to make it screen-reader friendly? It appears from what I've looked at that if you buy the premium version, you are essentially using the same software except that you may get faster downloads and more video options. Kinda like the erstwhile Jaws Home vs. Pro which used the same program, just the key that was different and allowed it to work on Pro and Ultimate Windows etc. Steve - Original Message - From: Mike B. So my question is if they don’t know longer go by what OS you have now or should I say what Version of a OS you have then how can they tell if you are on a work PC or home PC ? Because the new SMA comes in a home edition for authorization and a work edition for authorization. Mike, Your right, this list is a great resource for learning. You and many others taught me things I did not think I could learn. Just like to say THANK YOU! From the bottom of my heart. Mike, Thanks for your reply, I agree with you 100%, and I do not expect everyone on this list to have the same degree of knowledge when it comes to computers and working with softwares that are at best, merely retrofitted to meet the needs of blind people. I want everyone to know, that I need just as much help with somethings as anyone else, and that I am always willing to lend a helping hand wherever I can. I first joined this list and a couple more similar ones to be able to learn some of the things that I did not understand, and it has been a great resource for me. But, I get the greatest reward from this and other lists by teaching someone else how to accomplish their goals. I post my email address at the bottom of every message that I write, and it is my hope that anyone needing help with something will contact me on or off list. If I do know the subject, then I will stick with the person to the very end to get them to where they feel like their inquiry has been answered. Ok, then this makes sense to me if you are an individual and you bought your jaws or your jaws SMA then it is considered a consumer thing and You can use it on any PC? If someone bought it for you like a government agency or organization or business then it is considered commercial and you would need to get the commercial authorization . Which in this case the business would be buying it anyhow not you. So there is really no way they know other than a business is buying it or an individual buying it. So I wonder why they ask as if you are a individual they know it is for consumer use. If it is a company or business or such they know it is commercial. So why even ask? Possible and that is fine! Just wanted to know. For example: you bought the consumer one as you not employed and just use JFW at home but a few days later or a month later or whatever now is your authorization going to work ? You have to hit more than just the install button, and the screen may show up in another window so that you have to alt-tab to move focus there. You may then see an agree button and another install button and a checkbox to uncheck if you don't want something extra thrown in. Re: [JAWS-Users] Vipre!
Hi Bob, I for 1 don't have a clue as to how Vipre would handle your situation but, I'll include a SendSpace download link for the installer of the Vipre 2014 Internet Security trial version in this message. Maybe, if you uninstall 2015 run the 2014 trial installer you might be able to purchase the 2014 program through the buy now option in the program. https://www.sendspace.com/pro/dl/7hmdtf HTH Take care. I spoke with Roger Cusson on skype last night, and he told me what to do, the last timeI had a license key for vipre, was in 2010! and I only had it for 1 PC at the time for a year, and I never renewed it! Re: [JAWS-Users] Is Vipre Anti Virus and Vipre Internet Security compatible with JAWS?
Hi Jo, Here is a download link for the trial installer of Vipre 2014 Internet Security. If you purchase the program through the program maybe it won't update to 2015. If you can get a 2014 license you do license your 2014 program you would then want to run that registry file that tells Vipre not to update to 2015. The frame files / scripts reg files are available from the Jaws-Users website. All links are below. Hi Jo Lenny, This is the 2014 program. but, when 2015 comes out of Beta you won't be able to stop Vipre 2014 from updating to 2015 unless you run the reg files that Vipre has written to keep this happening for screenreader users knowing that 2015 is not accessible. When 2015 becomes accessible Vipre has written another reg file so you can say yes to the 2015 upgrade prompt. Vipre is working very hard to make 2015 accessible with the help from some very competent blind / screenreader users. It was with the help of these people that Vipre was able to write the reg files. I have the reg files if anyone wants them. Take Care. [JAWS-Users] JCS menu settings do not show checked or unchecked
I am using W7, Outlook 2010 and latest jaws. I installed jaws 16 on my computer a couple of days ago and everything seemed fine until today. Today when I go to JCS settings by pressing insert 6 jaws does not show any check boxes as checked or unchecked. I have checked all of my settings but I can't find anything to correct this. Jaws also just says buttons or yes or no instead of OK button or Cancel button. I would appreciate any help on this as I am baffeled. Re: [JAWS-Users] JCS menu settings do not show checked or unchecked
Hi Fred, That, yes / no dialogue, might be Jaws asking yu if you want to create a new settings file for the application you're working in since 1 hasn't been created yet in a freshly formatted OS it hasn't been created for Outlook with J16. If you route the Jaws cursor to the PC cursor, press the page up key, down arrow reading 1 line at a time you might get more information as to what this yes / no dialogue is saying. HTH Take care. Hello Mike, As David said, use the Windows Advisor update utility. If I could also add: IMO, a fresh install of Win 7, rather than an update from XP would give you a much better long-term result. HI guys Recently upgraded from Jaws15 to 16, but what a time reconfiguring the new Jaws! though I was able to kind of get it to how I had the previous Jaws, some little details to reconfigure gave me a headache! thus my question for the future, is there some sort of Merge Utility so, upon Jaws upgrade especially between major versions,I could reconfigure or maybe transfer the settings from the previous Jaws to the new one?
