Re: [JAWS-Users] [EXTERNAL] jaws sometimes reading html code

2014-11-16 Thread Chris Murphy

Starting in the last few weeks, I'm noticing that on Weather Underground pages
that I go to a lot, JAWS is reading HTML code that it ignored previously. It
takes quite a bit of paging down and searching to get past this stuff to find
the actual weather information.

I'm curious to know if anyone has discovered an explanation for this. I was
relieved in a way to find out that others have been experiencing something
similar with various web pages recently.

I use windows 7 with JAWS 15.0.5056. I have not done any updates in several
months.

Here is a link to a weather underground page in case anyone wants to try it:
http://mobile.wunderground.com/US/AK/Fairbanks.html

Thanks for any suggestions!

[JAWS-Users] jaws 16 reading web pages HTML code

2014-11-16 Thread LeDon
Hey, what's up with this. While viewing some web pages all of a sudden jaws
will start reading the HTML code instead of the text on the page. Has anyone
experienced this? This doesn't happen all of the time.. It just jumps up
sometimes and starts reading the code when I follow a link. I have tried
reloading a page that it is reading the code to see if it will solve the
problem. No dice. Any ideas?

When I go to send an e-mail, the spell checker automatically checks the
message. In the past, everything was perfect. For some reason, it now says
that there are no spelling suggestions, when there absolutely are on the
tab. How can I get this back to my normal setting? I really did not change
anything in Outlook settings to make this happen, as far as I know.

Thanks for all help.

Hi Roger List Members,

I ran into this pressing the F12 key did not help so, I opened Jaws Quick
Settings played around with various settings. This is what worked for me
on the website I was on at the time.
I navigated to: Heading Frame Options
Frames show start end, This I unchecked.

In-line Frames Show, This I turned off.

This worked for me that time haven't had another chance to check see if
it would work on a different website as of yet. Give it a try report back
with your results. I don't have my Win7 computer available to me at the
moment so I can't check it myself.

Take care.

Hey, what's up with this. While viewing some web pages all of a sudden jaws
will start reading the HTML code instead of the text on the page. Has anyone
experienced this? This doesn't happen all of the time.. It just jumps up
sometimes and starts reading the code when I follow a link. I have tried
reloading a page that it is reading the code to see if it will solve the
problem. No dice. Any ideas?

Hi,
while this is an intriguing work around what concerns me is what if it
results in missing information one actually wanted because the inline frames

Still I'm glad to hear they're aware of it as when it occurs it surely makes

I can confirm the behavior as well.
I too reported it to FS but got no response.

Hi

I have seen messages get a red flag. But I can't tell you why this happens.
It might be something to do with reminders. To get rid of the red flag,
while you're in the folder with the red flag message, move to that message
in the messages list. Then bring up the home tab of the ribbons and find
Tags and then Follow-up dropdown.Press space to open the dropdown and
find clear flag and press enter.

I notice that it happens for me when reading Google ads. Toggling F12 does
not help. It did start with JAWS 15, and fairly recently, within the past 2
months or so.

This is becoming quite annoying. When I try to read the local paper
sometimes jaws starts reading the html code for the article. It may be 6 or
7 pages that I have to try and get through to find the story.
Does this happen to anyone else and how can I prevent it. I am using latest
jaws, win 7 32 bit.

2014-11-16 Thread Annette Carr
Using JAWS 14 and I.E.10, I just went to a website that I've been using for
years, and found that the main content of the page was being read by JAWS as
gibberish. Given that I do not know what HTML code looks like, I can only
assume that is what I am hearing. I'm assuming that something has changed
about the webpage, but I'm not sure about that.

I just tried that change reading my local paper. It made no difference. I am
using win 7 32 bit and latest jaws. It also happened a few times with jaws
15 but not as often as 16 does.

Hi Rick,
I used to go to the regular Weather Underground but started using the mobile
format because I found the information to be presented more concisely in the
mobile version. I realize though that the standard site does have some details
that are not included in the mobile format version.

I'll give the standard format site a try again and see how it is. It's been
quite a while since I have used it.

Thanks!

Hi Chris,
I went to that page,, and got the same results, but found if you press the
letter H for headings, you can get to the real info much quicker.
Have you tried the regular site as opposed to the mobile site?

Starting in the last few weeks, I'm noticing that on Weather Underground
pages that I go to a lot, JAWS is reading HTML code that it ignored
previously. It takes quite a bit of paging down and searching to get past
this stuff to find the actual weather information.

I just asked the Sales Department at Freedom the same question this
afternoon.
They are only now beginning to ship the disks to those who still have an
active SMA.
You can download the new Jaws of course and your particular ID number will
assure that you aren't charged for it. That's how it should work, anyway.

It looks like FS came out with an update to Jaws 15, but I can't find
a page on their site that explains what they changed with this latest
release. Anyone know what's new?
