I use both on my two computers. You will find that Firefox is going to have a lot more pop up type stuff, which can be annoying at times, things like Do you want Firefox to do this or that or Firefox did this or that. I have never found a way to disable this. The tools menus are quite the same, and contain much of the same settings in both. I use both browsers because there are some sites that simply do not work very well in IE, but seem to do much better in Firefox. And the same goes the other way around. There are many more updates to Firefox, and you can choose to do this or not. Otherwise, Fire fox works well, and will do a good job for you. I hope this helps. [JAWS-Users] latest jaws update bug
Hi. Well. The latest jaws update has a bug, and has some thing to do with the voices. When I installed the latest update, jaws works fine with eloquence for a while, then if I switch to say, ava, goes very slow, and if I go to eloquence, goes very fast and like chip munks. And so. Have e-mailed the issue to freedom scientific.com. So if you are experiencing the same issues. Had to totally uinstall jaws , and then reinstall, and say no to the updates. Now just checked the eloquence and the vocaliser voices, and they go to the correct voice, and speak out the correct settings, which I have, set to 64 for speed, all for punctuation, so. Just warning you. Hopefully fs will fix this issue with vocaliser voices. Had to use the windows 8.1 hazel voice, okay, but a bit sluggish. Not asresponsive as vocaliser and eloquence. If you hit f6 in FSReader, you will find the old style tree navigation. If something isn't installed, it will just install it for you. In FSReader 2, if something wasn't installed, you had to check for updates to fix it. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of David Kingsbury Sent: Thursday, April 16, 2015 6:05 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Downloading Jaws Help DAISY files Hi George, I don't want to belabor the point too much, and I have no problem with the FS Reader 3 interface for myself, but the training modules should be as easy to navigate as possible for people who, after all, are new Jaws users. To access the training files with FS Reader 3, users must already understand navigation with headings. Then they have to download, going through the dialogue box one typically runs into when doing such things. This is of course second nature to those already used to Jaws, but baffling for new users. A person should not have to understand HTML navigation before he/she can access basic training materials. It's like saying you have to learn to run before crawling. I learned Jaws about 10 years ago with CD's played on a boom box, and having it all installed on the computer is a massive improvement, but the training modules were far easier to access for beginners prior to FS Reader 3. The basic training modules are a fantastic resource for beginners, but if they can't be easily accessed, this reduces their usefulness to the people who need them most. It said I was all updated, which is correct for my Jaws version, but I know I have training modules I have not yet downloaded. With Jaws 14 and before, it was exactly as you say and I liked having the choice because there are modules I didn't want. Maybe an eventual FS Reader 4 will bring us back this good feature of FS2. I train other blind people who really need these and don't yet have the skills to do loads of downloading. Easy access to training materials matter less for me, but beginning Jaws users should have all the training modules available in the easiest way possible. When I tell them that these modules are a great resource, but unfortunately, they will have to do 20 individual downloads to get them, it is not the right message to pass along. [JAWS-Users] Sending an email to multiple recipients in Outlook 2010
Hello list, So I would like to send an email to multiple recipients, but am not having success with a certain method. I know I can from within a new email message go to the to button and look up people to add from my address book, but I find that to be too tedious and time consuming. Im trying to add a bunch of people by first pressing the control button and then going down my address book with the down arrow and pressing the spacebar on those who I wish to email. I guess it would be the command for selecting noncontiguous items in a list. Anyway, After I select the people I wish to email, I press the control+N command but instead of an email message popping up with the previously selected contact emails in the to field, I get the prompt to create a new contact. Ive tried different versions of the same. By selecting my contacts then tabbing around in the ribbons to select the new mail option and so on, but no dice. I got this step by step instruction online, but so far, Ive had no luck. Am I somehow missing a step or can someone enlighten me as to how to best do this? This is not for distribution lists as I would like to email different groupings of people at different times. Im using Outlook 2010 and the latest Jaws 16. Thank you,. Re: [JAWS-Users] Sending an email to multiple recipients in Outlook 2010
I should clarify. I do use this method from time to time, but sometimes, I have to email a lot of people and while this way can work, I'm not going to remember every single persons email address. That and Jaws for me is flakey with announcing this information. Sometimes the name/email will be spoken by Jaws and other times not. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of j Bron Sent: Friday, April 17, 2015 10:42 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Sending an email to multiple recipients in Outlook 2010 When I want to send an email to more than one recipient I fill in one name in the to field and then tab to the CC field. [JAWS-Users] Skype phone number missed call status details
Hello list, I have a Skype telephone number for my business. One thing I havent been able to figure out is when I have a missed call, I cant find out what time the incoming call was placed. If someone leaves a voicemail, that information is read by Jaws in the VM window, but if someone doesnt leave a VM, I have no idea what time the call came in. Only that I missed a call. Does anyone know how or where to access this information? Either by enabling some setting or view? Re: [JAWS-Users] Sending an email to multiple recipients in Outlook 2010
I have an interpreting agency. Depending on the assignment and if it requires a specialized certification and its location I'll reach out to different interpreters. I do make use of distribution lists, but sometimes I only need to reach a few or a selected bunch. This is why the most used method of just typing a few letters until the proper email comes up and repeating that step is not very efficient. I'd like to use this method as I can just run down my address book and select the ones I need for a particular assignment. I'm good at remembering names, but there are too many variables like target language, skill level, type of certification, geographical location, weekend as opposed to weekday and so on to do the above for every job. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Carolyn Arnold Sent: Friday, April 17, 2015 1:07 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Sending an email to multiple recipients in Outlook 2010 I have several buddy lists, and occasionally I send out on one that I have three in one on. Hi David Leonard, There is a program called Speak Dropbox that resides in the system tray can be accessed with keystrokes so you don't have to mess with the Dropbox menues. I've been using this little gem for quite awhile now really like it. Here is the alternative way, other than using scripts, to hear what the dropbox status is. It's a little freeware program called Speak Dropbox. I heard about it on ACB's Main Menu podcast. It speaks the icon status. It can also open DB menu.
