Re: [JAWS-Users] MSE cuts JAWS off
I was attracted by the added PDF capability, and I still think that's one of the most useful things FS has ever done. It's such a pervasive format at work and at home. Newsletters and product manuals are almost always going to be PDF. OCR can be less than perfect, so the ability to grab and proof those things, without resorting to the expense of purchasing Acrobat, was just too good to pass up. Then there's Silverlight. For better or worse, it's now part of my job. Tab down until you are focused on the name of the albumn that you have in your CD/DVD drive, then open the context menu and select rip to Music Library. You can then tab down and uncheck any songs that you do not want to rip. The ripping process will start automatically, and should finish within 5 to 10 minutes. To check if it is finished, open the context menu again, and instead of saying Rip to Library, it will say Eject in the same place. The music will have been saved to a folder in the Music or My Music folder. Its pretty simple to do. Now, the music in your WMP library, is going to be in your windows Music library, since that is where the program gets it from. It can either detect it automatically and copy it there, or you can add it manually, but depending on what version of windows you are using, you can find the music in Windows Explorer or in the Music folder inside of This PC in Windows 8 or 8.1. A very good program to rip CD's which is free for home use, is Express Rip from NCH Software. www.nchsoftware.com/. It is very accessible with JAWS, and if the newest version is not, I would be glad to provide you with a copy of my installation file of an accessible version. For burning, I use another free program called CD Burner XP. It is a good burning program, and can burn CD's DVD's and Data disks. I am sure that you can do more with it, but I just use it to burn disks. If you download this, let me know, and I will walk you through the process, as there are 2 different windows open at the same time during the burning process. Should you have any further questions about any of this, feel free to contact me about it. Hope it helps. To download the latest release, visit the Downloads web page. JAWS *For customers who use JAWS 16 and MAGic 13 together, we resolved an issue that was discovered in the previous update where MAGic's Mouse Echo feature was not working as expected when JAWS 16 was running. *Worked with Smarter Balance Testing group in order to make some adjustments in how JAWS is working with the tests being conducted in many of the schools throughout the US. *In addition to detecting math that is rendered using MathJax in Internet Explorer, JAWS now detects Math content that is directly included in the HTML of a web page in both Internet Explorer and Firefox. *The contents of the Math Viewer are now displayed visually on the screen. The Math Viewer is accessed by pressing ENTER when JAWS encounters math content on a web page. As the equation is navigated using the ARROW keys, each expression or partial expression is highlighted so a sighted assistant can easily track visually, what JAWS is speaking. *Based on customer feedback, JAWS is now much more responsive when reading long and complex mathematical expressions rendered by MathJax. *Resolved a reported issue where JAWS was not recognizing math content in Internet Explorer on Wikipedia when the Wikipedia user account was set to render math using MathJax. *Improved how JAWS pronounces various mathematical functions so they are spoken using more natural language. *The Technology News from CNET Research It lookup source now works as it did in JAWS 15, displaying as many as 20 articles. *If both JAWS and MAGic are running, resolved an issue where pressing the Text Viewer toggle key on the MAGic Keyboard was not working. *Resolved reported issues using the Find feature (CTRL+F) in FSReader. *A customer reported that if focus was in a Windows security dialog and speech was off, braille was not working as expected and JAWS was creating several untitled voice profiles. This is now fixed. Microsoft Excel *When focused in the Font edit combo box, addressed a reported issue where the location of the cursor was not being shown in braille. *Resolved a reported issue where JAWS was not reading the list of column headers in the Sort dialog box. *Addressed an issue where information was not being displayed correctly in braille in certain spreadsheets when the braille mode was set to Current Row. *Addressed a reported issue with suggestions in the spell checker not being read as expected. Microsoft Internet Explorer *If you are inside an application region on a web page in both Internet Explorer and Firefox, it is now necessary to press the PC cursor command (NUM PAD PLUS) twice quickly to turn off Forms mode and return to the Virtual PC cursor. This change was made to keep users from inadvertently leaving Forms mode while interacting with controls inside application regions which require Forms mode remain active and is similar to having to press the PC cursor command twice quickly to turn off the Touch cursor. *Resolved issues with JAWS reading links and other content on web pages marked as hidden and not meant to be read by screen readers. *Resolved an issue where changes to the Graphical Links setting were not being saved when configured through the Personalized Web Settings group in Quick Settings. Microsoft Outlook *When navigating the tree view of folders in Outlook 2010, resolved an issue where the number of unread messages in the selected folder was not being announced automatically by JAWS. *Resolved an issue with the last message in an Outlook 2013 folder being announced and shown in braille even after deleting the message. *Addressed a customer reported issue with the keystrokes to read header information not working as expected in Calendar appointments. These keystrokes include ALT+1 for the From field, ALT+2 for the Sent field, ALT+3 for the To field, and so on. *Resolved a reported issue where the number of unread messages in the selected folder was not being shown in braille in the Go to Folder dialog box. Microsoft Word *Resolved issues with JAWS not reading as expected in Word
[JAWS-Users] A problem with a braille display
hi all, My wife has a problem with her braille display and I have never used one. She describes her problem below. If someone could help us it would be greatly appreciated. I have a Focus 80 braille display here. Yesterday, our kitten found his way onto my desk and altered a setting; I do not know how to fix it, but I think it is a simple thing. When I read and use the long button on the right-hand side of the display, I could move through documents line by line without any problem. Now, the cursor will stop midway through a word and in order to move it along, I need to use the arrow keys on the keyboard. I also see a scrdn that appears which was never there before. Can anyone help me get rid of the scrdn and get this display to read line by line again so that I can move smoothly through a document without seeing that scrdn? I am not too technical so please be specific to help me along if you wouldn't mind. Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Outlook 2010
Hi While you're in the list of messages in a folder, press shift+f6 to move to the navigation pane. JAWS should say mail folders tree view. If it says something else, you're navigation pane is turned off. To turn on the navigation pane, open view in the ribbons, navigate to layout and then the navigation pane drop down. The first item says normal. Press enter to make in checked. Close the ribbons and navigate to the navigation pane using f6 or shift+f6. Arrow down to inbox and press right arrow to open it. Then arrow down to the folder you want to delete. Now press the applications key and arrow down to delete and press enter. If it asks you if you're sure, choose yes. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Liuda Balcius Sent: Wednesday, April 29, 2015 11:28 To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Outlook 2010 David, can you please direct me to be able to delete a sub folder in my In Box of Outlook 2010? To download the latest release, visit the Downloads web page. JAWS .For customers who use JAWS 16 and MAGic 13 together, we resolved an issue that was discovered in the previous update where MAGic's Mouse Echo feature was not working as expected when JAWS 16 was running. .Worked with Smarter Balance Testing group in order to make some adjustments in how JAWS is working with the tests being conducted in many of the schools throughout the US. .In addition to detecting math that is rendered using MathJax in Internet Explorer, JAWS now detects Math content that is directly included in the HTML of a web page in both Internet Explorer and Firefox. .The contents of the Math Viewer are now displayed visually on the screen. The Math Viewer is accessed by pressing ENTER when JAWS encounters math content on a web page. As the equation is navigated using the ARROW keys, each expression or partial expression is highlighted so a sighted assistant can easily track visually, what JAWS is speaking. .Based on customer feedback, JAWS is now much more responsive when reading long and complex mathematical expressions rendered by MathJax. .Resolved a reported issue where JAWS was not recognizing math content in Internet Explorer on Wikipedia when the Wikipedia user account was set to render math using MathJax. .Improved how JAWS pronounces various mathematical functions so they are spoken using more natural language. .The Technology News from CNET Research It lookup source now works as it did in JAWS 15, displaying as many as 20 articles. .If both JAWS and MAGic are running, resolved an issue where pressing the Text Viewer toggle key on the MAGic Keyboard was not working. .Resolved reported issues using the Find feature (CTRL+F) in FSReader. .A customer reported that if focus was in a Windows security dialog and speech was off, braille was not working as expected and JAWS was creating several untitled voice profiles. This is now fixed. Microsoft Excel .When focused in the Font edit combo box, addressed a reported issue where the location of the cursor was not being shown in braille. .Resolved a reported issue where JAWS was not reading the list of column headers in the Sort dialog box. .Addressed an issue where information was not being displayed correctly in braille in certain spreadsheets when the braille mode was set to Current Row. .Addressed a reported issue with suggestions in the spell checker not being read as expected. Microsoft Internet Explorer .If you are inside an application region on a web page in both Internet Explorer and Firefox, it is now necessary to press the PC cursor command (NUM PAD PLUS) twice quickly to turn off Forms mode and return to the Virtual PC cursor. This change was made to keep users from inadvertently leaving Forms mode while interacting with controls inside application regions which require Forms mode remain active and is similar to having to press the PC cursor command twice quickly to turn off the Touch cursor. .Resolved issues with JAWS reading links and other content on web pages marked as hidden and not meant to be read by screen readers. .Resolved an issue where changes to the Graphical Links setting were not being saved when configured through the Personalized Web Settings group in Quick Settings. Microsoft Outlook .When navigating the tree view of folders in Outlook 2010, resolved an issue where the number of unread messages in the selected folder was not being announced automatically by JAWS. .Resolved an issue with the last message in an Outlook 2013 folder being announced and shown in braille even after deleting the message. .Addressed a customer reported issue with the keystrokes to read header information not working as expected in Calendar appointments. Re: [JAWS-Users] J16 Update Build J16.0.2339
I'm usingwindows 7 and I've installed the latest jaws v16 update through jaws help menu check for updates. I wanted to save the file initially by clicking on the link provided in the email. However, when it asked if I wanted to run or save the file I could not find a save option and alt n did not work. When I looked at the option link in this area I was asked to choose the default folder where I wanted files to be saved. I'm paraphrasing here. I didn't want to change the default folder but I did want to be able to type the path in the save as area like I would do if I got the file directly from the Freedom Scientific website and using alt n to make choices. I'm sorry if this doesn't sound very clear. On 5/1/2015 5:48 AM, David Ferrin wrote: Save it. It looks like they finally fixed the bug that popped up in V15 with Jaws not announcing the unread message count in Outlook. This alone is worth the upgrade. So far, so good. I think once so far has the unread count not been spoken for a bit, but maybe that was a blip since it's been working fine again. Either way, it's good to have this incredibly annoying bug squashed. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Baracco, Andrew W Sent: Thursday, April 30, 2015 8:34 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] [EXTERNAL] Re: J16 Update Build J16.0.2339 I knew about it when I fired up JAWS and got the JAWS update dialogue.
