Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS script to disable Ctrl + Shift + D

2015-05-07 Thread DH
Hi Dave,

How would I go about disabling that keystroke in JAWS for Excel? Would I
need to go into keyboard manager? I never use it so it doesn't need to be
workbook specific.

Thanks,
David

Dave,

I could tell you how to disable that keystroke when using Excel, but not
sure if it can be done only for a particular workbook. That sounds like a
Freedom Scientific Technical Support question for

Hi,

How would I go about writing a JAWS script to disable the JAWS keystroke
'Ctrl + Shift + D' whenever the workbook 'Test.xls' is open for example.

I would like to use that keystroke with an Excel macro.

Recently I began consistently using jaws 16 and I'm seeing some odd
behavior which I wonder if anyone can confirm.

During remote sessions using VPN, jaws 16 frequently goes absolutely
silent for minutes at a time. Occasionally speech will return if I
wait long enough, but often I have to reboot the computer before I am
able to regain speech.

This same behavior would sometimes occur with older versions of jaws
(prior to jaws 15), but then it seemed to be fixed.

I work from home several days a week, signed on to my desktop at work
and these frequent silences are very disruptive, not to mention the
reboots. Has anyone else seen this behavior with jaws 16? I intended
to report it to FS, but I'm not sure even how to explain it since it
seems to happen randomly without regard to what application I may be
using at the time.

Thanks,
Kim

Hi Mario,

I believe by default they are saved in the folder
\Users\\Videos
The steps below are general usage instructions I wrote for Freemake Video
Downloader. Since I'm feeling too lazy to extract the relevant text, read
through them and you will see how you can change the default download
folder.

1. Copy the URL from the address bar while a YouTube page is open. Note,
the program supports several other sites in addition to YouTube. I don't
remember the entire list of supported websites, but feel free to experiment.
2. Paste it into the main window of the program with Control+V. The URL
will be added to the list for processing.
3. Tab a few times and you will see several radio buttons. If you just want
to download the video without converting it, make sure that the
"Only download"
radio button is checked. If you want to download and also convert the video
to another format like MP3, make sure that the
"Convert to"
radio button is checked.
4. If you chose the
"Only download"
radio button, you can skip this step. If you chose to convert the file, tab
once more after checking the
"Convert to"
radio button. You will wind up in a combo box that lists the available
formats. Select the format to which you want the video to be converted.
MP3 for example.
5. Tab a few more times and you will find a button that is not properly
labeled, but which simply says
"..."
This is a browse button. You can use it to select the folder where files
will be downloaded. By default, it will save files in the
"My Videos"
folder.
"My Videos"
is only the virtual name for this folder. The actual path to this folder is
\Users\UserName\Videos
In either case, you can use the button labeled
"..."
to change it. It will remember the folder you selected between sessions and
continue to use that folder until you change it again.
6. Tab once more and you will find a button labeled either
"Download"
or
"Download and convert"
depending on whether you chose to just download or convert the file in the
previous steps. Select this button and it will begin downloading and
possibly converting the file.
   Carlos

Take care.

So do I, and using your excellent instructions worked perfectly. Note: the
desktop icon won't call itself Google search, just Google, but it's what you
want.

Shoshana, who is using Windows 7 and JAWS 14, with outlook 2003, and tried
the insert C command in spell check. It worked like a charm!

Re: [JAWS-Users] using free make video downloader

2015-05-07 Thread Michael B.
Hi Mario,

Below are steps I saved from another list. hopefully they will get you
going.

From: Carlos

  Carlos

Take care.
Mike

possible when it stalls, if I just leave it alone that it might come back,

Kim, when Jaws goes silent, try one of two things:

1. Restart Jaws with Insert-WindowsKey+F4 (takes a little time) 2.
Press WindowsKey+U; close the window that had opened, after Jaws
begins talking.

I intended
to report it to FS, but I'm not sure even how to explain it since it
seems to happen randomly without regard to what application I may be
using at the time.

Thanks,
Kim

That usually brings you to the end of the frame with the html stuff in it.

Ann,

Very unlikely a virus. This happens with some web pages, and it's the
underlying html coding that's getting through. Next time, try using H for
headers, or N for non-links to skip over that crud to get to the useful
parts of the web page. No idea how to get rid of it -- likely needs
attention from FS to resolve.

Re: [JAWS-Users] [Bulk] Re: confused webpages

2015-05-07 Thread Bissett, Tom
Hi, I find that this bleed through of html is usually in a frame. So when I
want to skip the garbage I do a find on "end frame" with out the quotes. That
usually brings you to the end of the frame with the html stuff in it.

Too get google search shortcut, from your desktop to open up in the edit

1. Go to google.com
2. Arrow down one time from the edit field, which puts you on the google
search button.
3. Press ALT+f
4. Arrow down to send to submenu, press the right arrow one time.
5. Down arrow to short cut to desktop and press enter 6. Now, when you
press enter on this short cut from your desktop, you will be in the

press enter.

Carolyn, try this, if you can get it going at all. Maneuver over to the
start menu, make sure JAWS is highlighted. Then use the kill command (I
think it's the equivalent of Win-JAWS-F4) to really clear it out. Then,
go the desktop (remember, you should now be focused on the JAWS start
command) and load it again.

Kim, when Jaws goes silent, try one of two things:

1. Restart Jaws with Insert-WindowsKey+F4 (takes a little time)
2. Press WindowsKey+U; close the window that had opened, after Jaws
begins

talking.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 16 frequently goes silent

I intended
to report it to FS, but I'm not sure even how to explain it since it
seems to happen randomly without regard to what application I may be
using at the time.

Thanks,
Kim

The 2nd step is not necessary, as when you kill JAWS with the
WIN-INSERT-F4 after the memory dump, it will automatically restart.

Try Adwcleaner

It is totally accessible. Review the scan results which are listed in about
eight different tabs including for each browser you use, programs, registry
entries etc.

The program does not install anything on your computer except for a log file
when it is finished.

https://toolslib.net/downloads/viewdownload/1-adwcleaner/

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

[JAWS-Users] Run Dialog, Clearing It Manually Steps Redone

2015-05-07 Thread Michael B.
Hi All,

I've redone the steps to make them a little mor user friendly.

Try the following to clear the Run history manually:
1. Open the 'Taskbar and Start Menu Properties' window. You can do it in 3
ways:
A. Press the Windows Key to open the start menu, press escape to close it &
this will put
you on the start button. While on the, Start Button press, Alt + Enter, to
open Taskbar & Start Menu proberties. You will be on the Taskbar tab so,
press, control + tab, to move to the Start Menu tab.

B. Press the Windows Key to open the start menu, press escape to close it &
this will put you on the start button. Now, open the context menu with the
application key or Shift + F10 keystroke, arrow up / down to, Properties, &
press enter. You will be on the Taskbar tab so, press, control + tab, to
move to the Start Menu tab.

C. You can also access the Taskbar & Start Menu properties by opening the
Start Menu, select Control Panel, press enter, navigate to, Personalization
Link, press enter, shift + tab to, Taskbar & Start Menu Link, & press enter.
You will be on the Taskbar tab so, press, control + tab, to move to the
Start Menu tab.

2. In the Start menu tab, tab a couple of times to the Privacy area &
uncheck the, Store and
display recently opened programs in the Start menu option. If you need to
clear recently opened files from the Run Dialog, uncheck, Store and display
recently opened items in
the Start menu and the taskbar.

3. Tab to, Apply, press the spacebar, tab to, Okay, & press the, spacebar or
enter to save & close.

so to clear the run dialog history, you uncheck the box which reads;
Store and display recently opened programs in the Start menu
Note: If you want to re-build your run dialog history, you will need to go
back into the, Taskbar & Start Menu properties, and re-check the box, Store
and display recently opened programs in the Start menu. Tab to, Apply,
press the spacebar, tab to, Okay, & press the, spacebar or enter to save &
close.

Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 16 frequently goes silent

2015-05-07 Thread Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS)
Carolyn, try this, if you can get it going at all. Maneuver over to the start
menu, make sure JAWS is highlighted. Then use the kill command (I think it's
the equivalent of Win-JAWS-F4) to really clear it out. Then, go the desktop
(remember, you should now be focused on the JAWS start command) and load it
again.

I try the Insert F4 thing, then Alt Control J always before the guess at
shutting down, but some of the time, that does not seem to work.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 16 frequently goes silent

2015-05-07 Thread Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS)
When it goes into Zombie mode ("no window is active"), that trick is absolutely
useless, along with just about anything else you care to try. This is the
worst flaw of a really outstanding program, so bad as to be deemed
unacceptable, and needs to be fixed before the end of this product cycle.

Two tricks I have mentioned before are:
Press the insert f10 for list of active programs, find the one you want and
enter on it. JAWS often start talking again.
Another is to refresh with insert plus escape.

Re: [JAWS-Users] confused webpages

2015-05-07 Thread Anne

Thank you to everyone who offered suggestions for my problem.

I have done scans with Nod32, Super AntiSpyware, Windows Defender, Hitman
Pro and Advanced Windows Care and nothing was found accept a few cookies
with Super AntiSpyware.

I also removed aAdOns in IE 11. It's still the same problem.

I am now thinking I am going to check my settings in JAWS to see if certain
symbols are being read that need to be turned off. If anyone has any
suggestions regarding this, please let me know.

JAWS has always done this and I've found no way around it. Sometimes, on
web sites, it says the same thing over and over again for a while. I've
decided (based on nothing but my own faulty reasoning) that when IE or
Outlook or whatever is doing something, JAWS keep repeating the last thing
it said just to let me know it's working ...and waiting or busy. Kind of
the same idea as not having "dead air" on the radio, LOL! Of course, I
could be, and probably am, entirely wrong.

Is this the one that's supposed to come with 10? It's supposed to combine
antivirus-antimalware.

I am very pleased with this Epson WF 2650. It can print both in color or just
in black. it's paper tray is very accessible, has a paper guard to stop printed
pieces from sliding off after printed.
Love that it's wifi too. I did have to uncheck 3 or 4 items in ms config to
not start up, since I noticed laptop was starting up much slower.
the ink refills are much more affordable than the HP I had before.
I'm not into printing photos and the like, but seems to work good on regular
8x11 paper.
One cool thing I noticed and this will sound werid, but the HP 6100 when I
printed like a grocery list using notepad, it would never be recognized by OB
without first maximizing notepad before printing.
The Epson didn't seem to have that problem.

May I add, always check the ergonomics. Back in 2008 I bought a Samsung
laser--great print quality, awful paper tray! I wound up purchasing an HP MFD
the following year. I still have them both, but it taught me a valuable lesson
I should have already known--always check the little things while you're still

Most printers will not have any issues with JAWS 16. But seriously consider
switching over to a Laser printer, and stop messing with that lousy ink
technology.

I have the HP LJ 1102P Bluetooth and Wireless printer, and it's a very
solid and fast printer.

I got so tired of running out of ink all the time, and now only have to
change a toner cartridge every 2500 to 3000 pages.

I just need to know if there is any particular model of this line I need to
stay away from in regards to working with Jaws 16, on Window's 7?

Thanks for any help!

Hi Steve,

Try the following to clear the Run history manually:
1. Open the 'Taskbar and Start Menu Properties' window. You can do it in two
ways:
Press the Windows Key to open the start menu, press escape to close & put
you on the start button, Right-click the Start button and select Properties
Or you can open the Start menu, select Control Panel, click Appearance and
Personalization, and then click Taskbar and Start Menu

2. In the Start menu tab and in the Privacy area uncheck the 'Store and
display recently opened programs in the Start menu' option. If you need to
clear
recently opened files, uncheck 'Store and display recently opened items in
the Start menu and the taskbar'

so to clear the run dialog history, you uncheck the box which reads;
Store and display recently opened programs in the Start menu
Apply & okay your changes
Note: I forgot to mention, if you want to re-build your run dialog history,
you'll
need to go back and re-check the box,
Store and display recently opened programs in the Start menu

Take care.
Mike

Hi All,

Does anyone know how to clear the history when you bring up the run dialog
box? Using Windows 7 64 bit and JAWS 16.
