Many of you have written concerned that you don?셳 have that

windows-10-upgrade-symbol

So what?셲 going on? There could be several possibilities, so
let?셲 run
down the list.

It could be that your device doesn?셳 have the latest Windows
updates. You
need to have updated to Windows 8.1 and have all current
updates. Windows
7 must have Windows 7 Service Pack 1 installed as well as the
latest
Microsoft updates.

For Windows 7 SP1:

KB3035583

KB2952664

For Windows 8.1 Update:

KB3035583

KB2976978

Try running both critical and optional updates and installing
them. There?셲
a good chance you?셪l see the icon then.

You?셪l only see an upgrade option for Windows 7 Home and Pro
and Windows 8
Home and Pro versions. If you?셱e running an Enterprise
edition, there won?셳
be a free upgrade. Also, if you?셱e running Windows RT,
there?셲 no upgrade.

Is your device part of a school or business network that?셲
managed by
administrator? You?셪l have to check with the IT administrator
about
upgrades.

If Microsoft thinks your PC might not be able to run Windows 10,
you won?셳
see the get Windows 10 app before July 29. They?셪l enable the
app after
that date.

There?셲 also a possibility that you aren?셳 running a genuine
version of
Windows. The upgrade will only apply to genuine Windows

YES, it is very necessary to contact Freedom Scientific
yourself! I spoke with Freedom Scientific Tech. Support
yesterday about this problem. I was told that unless we
individually contact Freedom Scientific to voice our
problems and request to have the numbers of the results in
Google searches returned as they once were, this will not be
considered. It is up to all of those who wish to have this
reinstated to contact Freedom Scientific personally at:
   suggesti...@freedomscientific.com

Even though Eric Damery monitors this list, developers have
no idea how many JAWS users are inconvenienced without these
numbers. Yesterday I kept track with an abacus and between
Noon and 6 p.m., I changed from JAWS 16 to JAWS
14 14 times, just in that short period of time, in order to
be able to use Google efficiently which I am required to do
often. For this reason, I realize that it is more time
consumptive to simply use JAWS 14 most of the time now, in
an effort to save valuable time.

If I knew of some way to reinstate this feature in my own
computer, I would do it in a heartbeat, but the work-around
is way too lengthy to be effectual.

Let's hope there can be some type of compromise. Perhaps a
toggle or button or something else could be used to access
this Google feature more quickly with JAWS 16 and newer
versions in the future.

Thank you!

I have only one solution which I implement in excess of
ten times daily.
That is to switch back and forth between JAWS 16 and Jaws
14 where the
Google results numbers are read perfectly. It wasn't
broken so why
was it fixed like this?!? I can remember the exact day
when this
stopped happening. I use Google for a great deal of
research daily,
like right now at 3 a.m. ET. I also have JAWS 14 running
as well
 right
now.

It is so time consuming and I hope that Freedom Scientific
will put
this back into an update soon. I believe that there are
many more
JAWS users who have this problem than take the time to ask
about it
 like I am doing.

I think there are many of us who depend upon those
numbers. When the
results are read without numbers and we must go back up to
locate the
one we wish to click on, it often wastes a great deal of
time, when
for many of us time is at a premium.

We can only keep hoping that FS will realize what an
inconvenience
this is and why I use JAWS 14 more often than 16 today.
Then to
upgrade to a version above JAWS 16? Why?

 Hope this helps someone!

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] need help!!! not able to get windows 10

here's the article I copied and pasted it

Many of you have written concerned that you don’t have that little upgrade
icon for Windows 10 in the lower right corner of your Windows PC.

 windows-10-upgrade-symbol

So what’s going on? There could be several possibilities, so let’s run down
 the list.

It could be that your device doesn’t have the latest Windows updates. You
need to have updated to Windows 8.1 and have all current updates. Windows 7
must have Windows 7 Service Pack 1 installed as well as the latest Microsoft
 updates.

 For Windows 7 SP1:

 KB3035583

 KB2952664

 For Windows 8.1 Update:

 KB3035583

 KB2976978

Try running both critical and optional updates and installing them. There’s
a good chance you’ll see the icon then.

 checkforupdatescharm

You’ll only see an upgrade option for Windows 7 Home and Pro and Windows 8
Home and Pro versions. If you’re running an Enterprise edition, there won’t
be a free upgrade. Also, if you’re running Windows RT, there’s no upgrade.

Is your device part of a school or business network that’s managed by
administrator? You’ll have to check with the IT administrator about upgrades.

If Microsoft thinks your PC might not be able to run Windows 10, you won’t
see the get Windows 10 app before July 29. They’ll enable the app after that
 date.

There’s also a possibility that you aren’t running a genuine version of
Windows. The upgrade will only apply to genuine Windows versions.

 windowsactivated

If none of the above apply to you, Microsoft does offer a fix, but it’s a
complicated one that I’m going to copy verbatim from their support site. I
do not suggest trying this unless you are very comfortable with technology
and doing something like editing your registry.
 1.Open Notepad
2.Copy the following text and paste it into Notepad:

 REG QUERY “HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
 NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\UpgradeExperienceIndicators” /v UpgEx |
 findstr UpgEx

 if “%errorlevel%” == “0” GOTO RunGWX

 reg add “HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
 NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Appraiser” /v UtcOnetimeSend /t REG_DWORD
 /d 1 /f

 schtasks /run /TN “\Microsoft\Windows\Application Experience\Microsoft
 Compatibility Appraiser”

 :CompatCheckRunning

 schtasks /query /TN “\Microsoft\Windows\Application Experience\Microsoft
 Compatibility Appraiser”

 schtasks /query /TN “\Microsoft\Windows\Application Experience\Microsoft
 Compatibility Appraiser” | findstr Ready

if NOT “%errorlevel%” == “0” ping localhost nul goto :CompatCheckRunning

 :RunGWX

 schtasks /run /TN “\Microsoft\Windows\Setup\gwx\refreshgwxconfig”
1.Click File, and then Save As
2.In the File name box, change the file name to ReserveWin10.cmd
3.Then click the dropdown next to Save as type, and select All files (*.*)
4.Select the folder you would like to save the file to. For this example,
let’s choose to save the file to the C:/Temp folder. Then click Save.
5.Open an elevated command prompt. (From the Start screen or Start menu,
type Command Prompt in the search box, and then in the list of results,
right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as administrator.)
6.Finally, run the file from the location you saved to in Step 6. In this
example, you would type the following in the Command Prompt window and hit
 Enter:C:/Temp/ReserveWin10.cmd

The Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser can take 10 – 30 minutes to run,
during which the script will continuously provide status reports that it is
 running. Please be patient.

If the script is failing in an infinite loop, then you don’t have the
 necessary prerequisite Windows Updates.

Hopefully one of these will work for you.

 ~ Cynthia

Re: [JAWS-Users] Google Search Results Not Numbered

2015-07-30 Thread Mohib Anwar Rafay
I am using jaws 15 and latest version of IE. when I use Mozilla
firefox, I don't get any number with search result. But when I use IE,
I always have number infront of each search itom.

On 7/30/15, Liuda balciu...@gmail.com wrote:

 of
those who wish to have this reinstated to contact Freedom Scientific
 personally at:

Even though Eric Damery monitors this list, developers have no idea how
 many
JAWS users are inconvenienced without these numbers. Yesterday I kept
 track
with an abacus and between Noon and 6 p.m., I changed from JAWS 16 to JAWS
14 14 times, just in that short period of time, in order to be able to use
Google efficiently which I am required to do often. For this reason, I
realize that it is more time consumptive to simply use JAWS 14 most of the
time now, in an effort to save valuable time.

If I knew of some way to reinstate this feature in my own computer, I would
do it in a heartbeat, but the work-around is way too lengthy to be
 effectual.

Let's hope there can be some type of compromise. Perhaps a toggle or
 button
or something else could be used to access this Google feature more quickly
with JAWS 16 and newer versions in the future.

   Thank you!

I have only one solution which I implement in excess of ten times daily.
That is to switch back and forth between JAWS 16 and Jaws 14 where the
Google results numbers are read perfectly. It wasn't broken so why
was it fixed like this?!? I can remember the exact day when this
stopped happening. I use Google for a great deal of research daily,
like right now at 3 a.m. ET. I also have JAWS 14 running as well right
 now.

It is so time consuming and I hope that Freedom Scientific will put
this back into an update soon. I believe that there are many more
JAWS users who have this problem than take the time to ask about it
 like I am doing.

I think there are many of us who depend upon those numbers. When the
results are read without numbers and we must go back up to locate the
one we wish to click on, it often wastes a great deal of time, when
for many of us time is at a premium.

We can only keep hoping that FS will realize what an inconvenience
this is and why I use JAWS 14 more often than 16 today. Then to
upgrade to a version above JAWS 16? Why?

 Hope this helps someone!

they are numbered. Does anyone know how to get the numbered search

[JAWS-Users] Problem with jaws and context menu key.

When wanting to open a link in a new tab when using the context menu key

unstead of giving open

open in new tab ect
When tabbing and then using the context menu key the correct results for
the items works What is Freedom going to do to fix this problem?

This is really annoying and is very counter productive.
this happens no matter what version of jaws from what i can tell before
jaws never did this kind of behavior. Jaws used to be able to be used
with the context menu key the correct way, wonder why freedom scientific

Well, I don't plan to update right now, don't want to have to
reinstall the programs I use most over again, especially those
with
keys that would need to be reentered. No one to assist with
this part

of the process.

I am still in Windows 7 which I needed when I was working.
Works fine
for me right now, later on I may update given a good reason to
do so.

type Command Prompt in the search box, and then in the list of results,
right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as administrator.)
6.Finally, run the file from the location you saved to in Step 6. In this
example, you would type the following in the Command Prompt window and hit
 Enter:C:/Temp/ReserveWin10.cmd

The Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser can take 10 – 30 minutes to run,
during which the script will continuously provide status reports that it
 is running. Please be patient.

If the script is failing in an infinite loop, then you don’t have the
 necessary prerequisite Windows Updates.

Hopefully one of these will work for you.

Many of you have written concerned that you don占쎌뀽 have

So what占쎌뀼 going on? There could be several possibilities,
so let占쎌뀼 run
 down the list.

It could be that your device doesn占쎌뀽 have the latest
Windows
 updates. You
need to have updated to Windows 8.1 and have all current
updates. Windows

 Microsoft updates.

 For Windows 7 SP1:

 KB3035583

 KB2952664

 For Windows 8.1 Update:

 KB3035583

 KB2976978

Try running both critical and optional updates and installing
them.
 There占쎌뀼
a good chance you占쎌뀴l see the icon then.

You占쎌뀴l only see an upgrade option for Windows 7 Home and

 Windows 8

edition,
 there won占쎌뀽
be a free upgrade. Also, if you占쎌뀻e running Windows RT,
there占쎌뀼 no
 upgrade.

Is your device part of a school or business network
that占쎌뀼 managed by
administrator? You占쎌뀴l have to check with the IT
administrator about
 upgrades.

If Microsoft thinks your PC might not be able to run Windows 10,
you
 won占쎌뀽
see the get Windows 10 app before July 29. They占쎌뀴l
enable the app after
 that date.

There占쎌뀼 also a possibility that you aren占쎌뀽 running
a genuine version of
Windows. The upgrade will only apply to genuine Windows
versions.

If none of the above apply to you, Microsoft does offer a fix,
but it占?
 ??a
complicated one that I占쎌뀵 going to copy verbatim from their

I do not suggest trying this unless you are very comfortable

Re: [JAWS-Users] Google Search Results Not Numbered

2015-07-30 Thread Liuda
You are correct. The numbers are still there in JAWS 14 and JAWS 15, but
not JAWS 16 which we are encouraged to buy and use.
For those of us who really depend upon these numbered results, I don't think
this hardly inconveniences those who do not use this feature, if they are
there.

not be considered. It is up to all of those who wish to have this
reinstated to contact Freedom Scientific personally at:

Even though Eric Damery monitors this list, developers have no idea
how many JAWS users are inconvenienced without these numbers.
Yesterday I kept track with an abacus and between Noon and 6 p.m., I
changed from JAWS 16 to JAWS
14 14 times, just in that short period of time, in order to be able to
use Google efficiently which I am required to do often. For this
reason, I realize that it is more time consumptive to simply use JAWS
14 most of the time now, in an effort to save valuable time.

If I knew of some way to reinstate this feature in my own computer, I
would do it in a heartbeat, but the work-around is way too lengthy to
 be effectual.

Let's hope there can be some type of compromise. Perhaps a toggle or
button or something else could be used to access this Google feature
more quickly with JAWS 16 and newer versions in the future.

   Thank you!

I have only one solution which I implement in excess of ten times daily.
That is to switch back and forth between JAWS 16 and Jaws 14 where
the Google results numbers are read perfectly. It wasn't broken so
why was it fixed like this?!? I can remember the exact day when this
stopped happening. I use Google for a great deal of research daily,
like right now at 3 a.m. ET. I also have JAWS 14 running as well
 right

2015-07-30 Thread Michael Boyd
According to Microsoft Accessibility support, it is not your option to
update when you want to, it will be available to you when it is time for you
to upgrade. There are so many people trying to upgrade right now, that the
servers are pretty well jammed packed with the requests. It depends on when
you res erved your copy, and which categotry you might happen to fall in as
to when you will receive your notification. There is also a factor of luck
in this as well. The systen picks some names at random and throws them in
the mix too. The first group who were specifically targeted to get the
update, are the people who took part in the Beta testing of the product, but
I was not told who would be next, I suppose it might be those of us who
reserved their copies. Also, the time frame for reserving a copy is not yet
over. It is not clear when it will end, but it will extend into the next
year for at least a while, and the free installations will cease on July 29,
2016. So, don't rack your brains out worrying about getting the thing until
it becomes your turn, or until someone notifies you that your copy is ready
to be installed. The purpose of entering your email address during the
reservation process was to be notified when the update was available for
installation by you. I was told that the bulk of the process should be over
within the time frame of a couple of weeks, so I suppose it could take that
long for some to get their copies installed.

I'm not quite understanding why you simply don't go to microsoft's website
and get it yourself.

You say you're willing to pay for it, I've given you the Microsoft price, as
well as the price at Best Buy, and if you get to the Microsoft website
within the next year, there's a good chance you won't have to pay the one
hundred and nineteen dollars they would ask you to pay.

Given that the icon is not showing up in your system tray, I think this
would be the better bet, so go to the below link, and get Windows 10

Good luck.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Google Search Results Not Numbered

2015-07-30 Thread Liuda
Good evening.

Having Google results numbered or not numbered does not affect you, IF you
do not use this feature often. If you are using Google and read results
occasionally, this is not a problem. For some of us, we use this feature
often to carry out certain responsibilities in life and the work we do.

When I read the results and they are numbered, then as I go through each
individually downward, I mentally note which numbered results are the best
and would be the first to be researched. When at the bottom, then I can
recall that numbers 2 and 5 are the first I need to research.

Now, if the results are NOT numbered, then I must start from the top and
perhaps go through them a couple of times to again orientate myself and
determine where those results are which if numbered are a snap to access.

Again, for those who do not use Google often, this may not be a concern.
For others of us who must use Google as a considerable part of our daily
life experiences, then time becomes a real factor.

I am in the process of editing a book and moderate 3,300 members of
Yahoogroups forums. For each I must do a great deal of research, not to
mention other aspects of my computer operations.

I hope this helps to explain it further for everyone. If you need a certain
feature to be easily accessible in JAWS to make your life so much easier, I
am on your team and eager to help you. In the same token, I hope there can
be some solution to this problem, so I don't need to use JAWS 14 more than I
use JAWS 16. Right now as I write this message, I am using JAWS 14, even
though 16 is totally paid for and updated.

Take care.

This has nothing to do with relevance. Numbering the Google search results
simply makes it easier to keep track of results when you have more than ten

The advantage of the Google results being number is that it
is easier to select the priority one you might be most

YES, it is very necessary to contact Freedom Scientific

yesterday about this problem. I was told that unless we
individually contact Freedom Scientific to voice our
problems and request to have the numbers of the results in
Google searches returned as they once were, this will not
 be
considered. It is up to all of those who wish to have
 this
reinstated to contact Freedom Scientific personally at:

Even though Eric Damery monitors this list, developers
 have
no idea how many JAWS users are inconvenienced without
 these

 between
Noon and 6 p.m., I changed from JAWS 16 to JAWS
14 14 times, just in that short period of time, in order
 to
be able to use Google efficiently which I am required to
 do
often. For this reason, I realize that it is more time
consumptive to simply use JAWS 14 most of the time now, in
an effort to save valuable time.

If I knew of some way to reinstate this feature in my own
computer, I would do it in a heartbeat, but the
 work-around
is way too lengthy to be effectual.

Let's hope there can be some type of compromise. Perhaps
 a
toggle or button or something else could be used to access
 this Google feature more quickly

Hi,
I think it depends on how comfortable you are with tech will depend on
whether you need sight to update to windows ten. Last night I updated my
Lenovo Laptop running Windows 8.1 to windows 10 without sight with no
difficulties. I had one moment of hesitation when it brought up a screen
after a reboot and did not speak. I thought I wonder what it is doing now
and I wonder if it is safe to use narrator. So I whipped out my iPhone and
my KNFB reader in a totally dark room and it read the screen to me. And from
the contents of the screen I knew it was safe to use narrator to get me to
the log in screen at which point jaws kicked in. I was already running the
latest version of jaws. Once that happened I could exit narrator and log in.

I should also add that I was running on about two hours of sleep at the time
and was barely functioning myself at the time. Tonight I activated Cortana
and configured the default browser and everything is running very well with
jaws 16, magic 13 which I do occasionally use but did not use last night,
and windows 10.
Hope that helps.

Well, this sure has been one all day ordeal to say the least!

However, perseverance has paid off. I have finally got that update to show in
the system's tray, and I have finally reserved my free copy with email
confirmation whenever it's my turn in the cue to have it,lol

I think that why so many of us do not see that in the system's tray is, there's
a certain item in window's update through the settings that has to be checked
in order for this to show.
Once I checked that box to show notifications it was on the taskbar and in
system's tray.

So I hope this will help someone who is still interested in getting their free
window's 10 download. If I just did it, then obviously, it's still available to
be obtained/reserved.

I'm not going to install it as of yet. I want to wait at least till I know more
about especially email clients that are able to run with it, and give FS time
to get new Jaws out that will work better for it, I am in no hurry.

2015-07-30 Thread Michael B.
Hi Sunshine,

If you tab to a link open the context menu you get a different list of
options than when you arrow to a link open the context menu. Tabbing to
the link instead of arrowing to the link will give you the options you are
wanting. Or, press, Shift + Enter, to open instead of enter. In Internet
Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome, that command opens the link you follow in a
new window. Once you have finished looking at the page, close the window
with alt f4 and you will return to the previous window and be exactly where
you left off in the
search results.

jaws works quite well with win10 and yes it will upgrade straight from
windows8 and you shouldn't need any sighted assistance but it is helpful

[JAWS-Users] Reserving Window's 10

2015-07-30 Thread Trish

Hi Kevin,
I will have to say here, that you are giving ill-advice!
If you would follow what is going on, you would already know that the
Windows 10 is a free upgrade.
Whether you get a notification in the system tray or not, you can still

This upgrade is FREE, for one year from the release date of 07/29/2015.
So, please don't tell list members that they are S O L, if there is no

Re: [JAWS-Users] question about jaws and windows 10

2015-07-30 Thread Shai
Hi,
Has any one tried installing it with Windows7? Also, is it true that
one need uninstall JAWS before installing windows10? The
FreedomScientific site states that one does not need to do this;
however, the get windows10 status report states differently. I know
that JAWS will need to be reinstalled once windows10 is in place and
that I should run the utility tool which removes the older versions of
JAWS and mirror display driver.

jaws 16 or should I wait until I get 17?

Thanks in advance for any answers you can give.

So in other words # 1 would be more relevant to your search

The advantage of the Google results being number is that it
is easier to select the priority one you might be most
interested in opening. You can read through them. I guess it
could be lived without, but if you're used to have and have
to give it up, you could feel kind of gypped.

YES, it is very necessary to contact Freedom Scientific
yourself! I spoke with Freedom Scientific Tech. Support
yesterday about this problem. I was told that unless we
individually contact Freedom Scientific to voice our
problems and request to have the numbers of the results in
Google searches returned as they once were, this will not
be
considered. It is up to all of those who wish to have
this
reinstated to contact Freedom Scientific personally at:
   suggesti...@freedomscientific.com

Even though Eric Damery monitors this list, developers
have
no idea how many JAWS users are inconvenienced without
these
numbers. Yesterday I kept track with an abacus and
between
Noon and 6 p.m., I changed from JAWS 16 to JAWS
14 14 times, just in that short period of time, in order
to
be able to use Google efficiently which I am required to
do
often. For this reason, I realize that it is more time
consumptive to simply use JAWS 14 most of the time now, in
an effort to save valuable time.

If I knew of some way to reinstate this feature in my own
computer, I would do it in a heartbeat, but the
work-around
is way too lengthy to be effectual.

Let's hope there can be some type of compromise. Perhaps
a
toggle or button or something else could be used to access
this Google feature more quickly with JAWS 16 and newer
 versions in the future.

 Thank you!

I have only one solution which I implement in excess of
 ten times daily.
That is to switch back and forth between JAWS 16 and Jaws
 14 where the
Google results numbers are read perfectly. It wasn't
 broken so why
was it fixed like this?!? I can remember the exact day
 when this
stopped happening. I use Google for a great deal of
 research daily,
like right now at 3 a.m. ET. I also have JAWS 14 running
 as well
 right
 now.

It is so time consuming and I hope that Freedom
Scientific
 will put
this back into an update soon. I believe that there are
 many more
JAWS users who have this problem than take the time to
ask
 about it
 like I am doing.

I think there are many of us who depend upon those
 numbers. When the
results are read without numbers and we must go back up
to
 locate the
one we wish to click on, it often wastes a great deal of
 time, when
for many of us time is at a premium.

We can only keep hoping that FS will realize what an
 inconvenience
this is and why I use JAWS 14 more often than 16 today.
 Then to
upgrade to a version above JAWS 16? Why?

 Hope this helps someone!

 Hi,
It is my understanding that you'll be notified of its availability but
it won't automatically install. If someone reserves a copy they have a
year to install it. As such it would stand to reason that it wouldn't
automatically install on the first day as then there'd be no reason
for the one year window. I think confusion stems from the fact that
many outlets have reported that updates for windows 10 I.E. once
windows 10 is installed will become automatic for home users but the
update to windows 10 itself is not automatically installed. I hope
this serves to clarify rather than muddy the waters.

To quickly find KB3035583, you can sort by name. Once you've located
 it, right-click and choose Uninstall.
When you select to uninstall this update, you'll be asked to confirm

Once your computer restarts, the GWX.EXE and its associated GWXUX.EXE

Some readers have noted that KB3035583 returns if you don't hide it.
If you have Windows updates set to download and install automatically,
this means that if you uninstall this update, it will be reinstalled

To hide the KB3035583 update and prevent it from being reinstalled,
right-click on it in the Windows Update application and select Hide

After, the update's selection box will be grayed out and cannot be

From hereon, the update will be hidden whenever you reopen Windows
Update unless you decide to restore it.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Google Search Results Not Numbered

2015-07-30 Thread Carolyn Arnold
The advantage of the Google results being number is that it is easier to
select the priority one you might be most interested in opening. You can
read through them. I guess it could be lived without, but if you're used to
have and have to give it up, you could feel kind of gypped.

That is to switch back and forth between JAWS 16 and Jaws

14 where the

broken so why

was it fixed like this?!? I can remember the exact day

when this

stopped happening. I use Google for a great deal of

The default Eloquence and any SAPI 5 or Realspeak voice that can be used

This has nothing to do with relevance. Numbering the Google search results

I have seen it advertised for $119.99. I believe this was on Amazon, but I
think that you can get it for this price else where as well.

here's the article I copied and pasted it

Many of you have written concerned that you don’t have that little
upgrade icon for Windows 10 in the lower right corner of your Windows PC.

windows-10-upgrade-symbol

So what’s going on? There could be several possibilities, so let’s run
down the list.

It could be that your device doesn’t have the latest Windows updates. You
need to have updated to Windows 8.1 and have all current updates. Windows
7 must have Windows 7 Service Pack 1 installed as well as the latest
Microsoft updates.

For Windows 7 SP1:

KB3035583

KB2952664

For Windows 8.1 Update:

KB3035583

KB2976978

Try running both critical and optional updates and installing them. There’s
a good chance you’ll see the icon then.

checkforupdatescharm

You’ll only see an upgrade option for Windows 7 Home and Pro and Windows
8 Home and Pro versions. If you’re running an Enterprise edition, there
won’t be a free upgrade. Also, if you’re running Windows RT, there’s no
upgrade.

Is your device part of a school or business network that’s managed by
administrator? You’ll have to check with the IT administrator about
upgrades.

If Microsoft thinks your PC might not be able to run Windows 10, you won’t
see the get Windows 10 app before July 29. They’ll enable the app after
that date.

I do not suggest trying this unless you are very comfortable with
technology and doing something like editing your registry.

1.Open Notepad
2.Copy the following text and paste it into Notepad:

REG QUERY “HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\UpgradeExperienceIndicators” /v UpgEx |
findstr UpgEx

if “%errorlevel%” == “0” GOTO RunGWX

reg add “HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Appraiser” /v UtcOnetimeSend /t
REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

schtasks /run /TN “\Microsoft\Windows\Application Experience\Microsoft
Compatibility Appraiser”

:CompatCheckRunning

schtasks /query /TN “\Microsoft\Windows\Application Experience\Microsoft
Compatibility Appraiser”

schtasks /query /TN “\Microsoft\Windows\Application Experience\Microsoft
Compatibility Appraiser” | findstr Ready

if NOT “%errorlevel%” == “0” ping localhost nul goto
:CompatCheckRunning

:RunGWX

schtasks /run /TN “\Microsoft\Windows\Setup\gwx\refreshgwxconfig”
1.Click File, and then Save As
2.In the File name box, change the file name to ReserveWin10.cmd
3.Then click the dropdown next to Save as type, and select All files
(*.*)
4.Select the folder you would like to save the file to. For this
example, let’s choose to save the file to the C:/Temp folder. Then click
Save.
5.Open an elevated command prompt. (From the Start screen or Start menu,
type Command Prompt in the search box, and then in the list of results,
right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as administrator.)
6.Finally, run the file from the location you saved to in Step 6. In
this example, you would type the following in the Command Prompt window
and hit Enter:C:/Temp/ReserveWin10.cmd

The Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser can take 10 – 30 minutes to run,
during which the script will continuously provide status reports that it
is running. Please be patient.

If the script is failing in an infinite loop, then you don’t have the
necessary prerequisite Windows Updates.

Hopefully one of these will work for you.

~ Cynthia

Hi Kevin,
I will have to say here, that you are giving ill-advice!
If you would follow what is going on, you would already know that the
Windows 10 is a free upgrade.
Whether you get a notification in the system tray or not, you can still
upgrade, let me say it again, for free!

This upgrade is FREE, for one year from the release date of 07/29/2015.
So, please don't tell list members that they are S O L, if there is no
notification in their system tray.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Google Search Results Not Numbered

2015-07-30 Thread Liuda
YES, it is very necessary to contact Freedom Scientific yourself! I spoke
with Freedom Scientific Tech. Support yesterday about this problem. I was
told that unless we individually contact Freedom Scientific to voice our
problems and request to have the numbers of the results in Google searches
returned as they once were, this will not be considered. It is up to all of
those who wish to have this reinstated to contact Freedom Scientific
personally at:
   suggesti...@freedomscientific.com

Even though Eric Damery monitors this list, developers have no idea how many
JAWS users are inconvenienced without these numbers. Yesterday I kept track
with an abacus and between Noon and 6 p.m., I changed from JAWS 16 to JAWS
14 14 times, just in that short period of time, in order to be able to use
Google efficiently which I am required to do often. For this reason, I
realize that it is more time consumptive to simply use JAWS 14 most of the
time now, in an effort to save valuable time.

If I knew of some way to reinstate this feature in my own computer, I would
do it in a heartbeat, but the work-around is way too lengthy to be
effectual.

Let's hope there can be some type of compromise. Perhaps a toggle or button
or something else could be used to access this Google feature more quickly
with JAWS 16 and newer versions in the future.

You may be able to download the ISO image which is now available and run an
upgrade from there but I have not yet tested it to be quite honest!

Re: [JAWS-Users] Office 2010 or Office 365 with Jaws

2015-07-30 Thread Michael Boyd

Hi Chris,

Both versions of Office work well with JAWS. In my experience, having used
both versions of Office extensively, The Office
365 seems to run more seamlessly than an installed version of either Office
2010 or 2013. When I was using either one of these versions, I would get
little glitches in some of the programs from time to time, and would usually
have to consult someone from an Office support group to get these resolved.
However, since subscribing to Office 365, Hone version, I have experienced
no problems with any of the included applications. It is currently installed
on 3 different computers, and as far as I know, they all work well. When one
considers what you get for the price, I find it hard to go wrong with this
subscription, and I believe that I will be using it for a long time. Since
it also includes free upgrades, subscribers will be getting Office 16 in the
near future.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Office 2010 or Office 365 with Jaws

Hello list,

Earlier this week, I grabbed a Windows 8.1 tower at a really good deal. I’m
waiting until the weekend to set it up, but wanted to ask those who may have
already had some experience with both versions of Office. Is there any
discernable advantage to using the Office 2013 cloud version offered through
the Office 365 Small Business plan or the standard disk instalation with
Office 2010? I’ve got a 2010 package with one system install available to
and am not quite sure if I should go ahead and load this version on to my
new system or if I should simply run the more recent 2013 cloud downloaded
version. This machine would be for my business anyway, so it’s not like I
have any plans on discontinuing my Office 365 subscription any time soon
either.

I’ll be using the latest Jaws 16and for the time being sticking with
Windows 8.1 until Windows 10 gets its first few bug fixing related updates.
If there are any differences in Jaws performance or accessibility issues
that may favor one version of Office over the other, I’d appreciate any
feedback.

Thanks,

Cristobal

Re: [JAWS-Users] win 10 free upgrade

2015-07-30 Thread Michael Boyd
Accessibility, and they confirmed that Windows 10 would be coming through a
Windows update, and that everyone would not be getting it on the first day.
In fact, it will take several days for all to get a chance to update to it
if wanted right now. Also, in yesterday's issue of the Flying Blind email,
there was a good article on How to Install Windows 10, and it covered
doing it from Windows 8.1 and Windows 7, the two processes are quite
different. From other material that I read from Freedom Scientific, it seems
that but for the Edge browser and the Mail app in Windows 10, Jaws and the
new operating system should get along very well at this time. Of course, I
do not blame anyone who wishes to wait for awhile before taking the
plunge.
