OK, I'm just saying that I think my machine is set to the Windows 10 theme,
and must have been by default. There are some nice sounds in this theme.

What theme are people using in windows 10.

In 8.1 I can't remember which I was using lol but now in 10 task switching,
running application is spoken aloud a lot when alt-tabbing.

Thanks.

[JAWS-Users] jaws in the system tray

2015-08-06 Thread Kimsan
When pressing insert j, if one has their jaws to appear in the system tray,
it brings up a context menu correct?

I do that and nothing happens and I don't even see the jaws icon in the
system tray, even though its set to show that way.

I'm using the recommended jaws for windows 10.

Hi Kurt,

The keystroke is, Insert / Jaws key + Delete key.

For those that are wondering what the virtual cursor is / does, the Virtual
cursor is explained below:

The Virtual PC Cursor - HTML Environment The virtual PC Cursor mimics the
functions of the PC Cursor, but is activated by default when entering an
HTML document. The virtual PC Cursor speaks the number of frames in a
document, and the number of links in the frame. You can switch between
frames, and JAWS reads graphics labeled by alt tags in the HTML code.

Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook Express and Outlook.

2015-08-06 Thread Michael Boyd
Windows Live Mail is free, and is part of a suite of programs called Windows
Live Essentials, which includes Mail, Writer, One Drive,Photo Gallery, and
Movie Maker. You can choose which of these you want to install, and to me,
Mail is the only one that I would have. I haven't used Outlook Express, but
I do know that Windows Live Mail, when developed, was taken straight from
the Outlook Express program. In fact, when you open your Inbox in Windows
Live Mail, JAWS reads "Outlook Express message list view". The web address
for the download of Windows Live Essentials is:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-live/essentials

The last version of this program is 2012, but it is still a very good suite
of stuff.

Cortana is a new part of Windows 10. She is a personal assistant like Siri

Open Set Your Default Programs.
Tab down until you find the "List View", then arrow down until you find
Internet Explorer, or you can just press the letter I, it should be the

Stay focused on Internet Explorer, and tab down further to "Set this

Lastly, tab down to the OK button, and press enter.

You are done.

I'm using Outlook 2010 and Jaws 16 with Windows 8.1.

I have noticed that when you delete messages from a folder, the last
message

looks as if it is still there.

First of all, it isn't. If you do a mass Delete, it is removed with the
other messages.

This is some kind of odd Jaws behavior. There is a way to deal with
it.Once

you have deleted the messages, press the Backspace key. That will remove
the message which doesn't seem to want to leve.

with Windows 10

Hi.
those antimalware applications are ridiculously overbearing. They all
started reporting speakDropbox to my web host as malicious a few months
ago, my host contacted me and asked me to resolve it. I double checked
that the site hadn't been hacked and the files replaced or anything like
that. The speakDropbox installers were the same size and behaved exactly
the same as when I compiled them when I redownloaded from the site and
installed them for testing purposes. So I informed my host that there
was nothing wrong. A week later my host contacted me again and said they
took my site down temporarily because they were getting large numbers of
reports of malicious content on my site, that I needed to resolve the
issue and contact them to have the site turned on again.

Programmers have the option to use something called UPX compression in
their program's executables which essentially is a way to compress the
executable file into a slightly smaller one and make it marginally more
difficult to decompile and hack the application. I had UPX disabled for
SpeakDropbox versions 12 and earlier because the advice online is to
keep it off so Antimalware applications can easily read the contents of
the executable and determine that it does or does not have malicious
content. UPX compression prevents a lot of Antimalware applications from
actually analyzing the program because they're just not really capable
of it. So the word on the street is that a lot of them start blocking
programs that were UPX compressed on general principle or at least if it
looks suspiciously like another UPX compressed program that turned out
to be malicious in the past.

Anyway, back to speakDropbox, I had UPX turned off because I wanted
these applications to scan it and see that it wasn't doing anything
nasty. When I got my site taken down for goodness sake, I turned UPX on
and wouldn't you know that took the number of antimalware companies
reporting it from 22 down to 2, one of which was Avast, see the
SpeakDropbox download site for my original complaint on that. These guys
are perfectly happy to just roll all over me and it's of course always
my fault when they have a false positive.

Now regarding your own issue, there must be a way to tell Avast to
simmer down and let SpeakDropbox do its thing.

On another unrelated note, AVG is being a real knothead with the
Guidedog Client, the software application that is part of the service
our company's audiogames use for registration and online communication.
It prevents the games from downloading it, but if you temporarily
disable AVG long enough to do that, when AVG automatically turns on
again, it sees the new files and deletes them, all without telling the
user in any way what the heck is going on. It has no alert what so ever
of its activity, so I get emails from people who just bought one of our
games going it doesn't work, can you help me? I recently spent a few
hours with jaws tandem on one of my friend's who bought one of the
game's computers and eventually proved to him that it was AVG, he didn't
ask for a refund, he's supposed to be getting his sighted buddy to try
and figure out how to add some sort of exception to AVG so he can run my
game, ick!

So far, the safest Antimalware application seems to be Windows Defender
for windows 8.1 and windows 10 people or Microsoft Security Essentials
for everyone else. The buddy who has AVG was using it for a while, and
got a virus while running it though, so he doesn't trust that anymore.
The last virus I had, I got because I had Windows Defender turned off on
two of my computers. It just so happened it was in a bt sync folder, and
when I turned my tablet on, the one computer I had at the time which had
windows defender enabled started complaining about these bad files
showing up in that bt sync folder and generally making all kinds of
racket. There were 6 people in that folder and I was the one that
noticed the bad files, on a 375 dollar windows 8.1 tablet, of all
things. I re-enabled it on the two computers that had it turned off, and
let it do full system scans and generally cleaned house. To the best of
my knowledge it saved the day even though I was a retard and forgot to
turn it back on at some point prior to that and left myself vulnerable.

Anyhow this isn't completely jaws related, I'd better stop while I have
at least some chance of being ahead, lol.

Hello Mike:
I tried to look at this for future reference, and make some notes. I went
to the set default programs link, and selected it. I am using internet
explorer as the browser. However, I did not find it in the list of programs.

Would you mind spelling this out in a little more detail? Sorry, if this
question is too elementary. But, I am still a novice.
 Thanks. Neil

If you had IE on your desktop before you updated to Windows 10, then it
should still be there. Open Control Panel, then Default Programs. Now, click
on Set Default Programs, and then select Internet Explorer. Tab down and
press enter on Set this program as default.

This will cause all links, web sites, etc. to open in Internet Explorer and

yes, you should reinstall Jaws 16, here is why.
yes, you are correct, it does come up talking and you can access the
start button correctly.
but I noticed while playing around with all apps region, and the live
tile area, jaws was very sluggish.
After removing and reinstalling, the apps area and the tile area
worked much smoother.
Microsoft also recommends a fresh install of Jaws 16 after installing
windows 10 from either w-7 or w-8.1.
It is not that difficult to do.
After uninstalling jaws 16, turn on Narrator with windows key+enter,
to close the programs and features window, and go to restart your
computer, press enter.
Wait for a reasonable time until you know that the sign in screen is
up, type your password and press enter.
Again, wait for a reasonable time, press windows key+enter to start
Narrator.
go to your download folder where you will have put the jaws 16 program
file, down arrow to the jaws file.
press caps lock key+escape to exit narrator, or skip this step and
wait until the installation of jaws has started to close narrator.
, now press enter on the Jaws 16 program file to start installation.
Depending on your computer you will either have to press enter again
for the Jaws instillation, or the ALT+y, for the users account dialog
which will pop up.
finish installing Jaws,
Important, if you chose to keep your share settings, which I would and
did do on my computer.
jaws 16 will install and after you hit finish, it will come on
speaking, no restart.
Make sure you reset your short cut start up key for jaws.
Make sure you check the setting and check the box for jaws to come on
at the log on screen before restarting.
Every other setting should be retained.

Hi Kimsan,

Apparently when upgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 10 reinstalling Jaws is
not necessary. Here's the steps from Freedom Scientific:
Updating from Windows 8.1
list of 3 items
1. Install JAWS 16.0.4350 or higher, or MAGic 13.0.1119 or higher.
2. Download and run the
utility tool
to help remove older versions of JAWS and MAGic.
3. Perform the update to Windows 10 and JAWS 16 and MAGic 13 will continue
working as expected.
list end
Take care.

Hello:

I began the process at 9:17 pm, and completed everything at 11:07 pm.

It took 3 dvr episodes of the flintstones, one smoke and a bottle of cocanut
watter.

I used my KNFB reader ap to check the progress; however, the only time I
needed visual assistance was at this window that stated express settings and
once next was clicked, narorator began telling me it was getting my comp
ready and aps were being loaded etc.

My jaws began talking which is where I'm confused, because I read that we
must reinstall jaws but all is working so should I reinstall jaws?

Same thing happened when upgrading to windows 8.1 where jaws just popped up
and no reinstall was needed.

Thanks Jim and others for reading my emails about freeking out, it was

Hi Teresa,

Try these steps:
From: Steve
Use your skim reading tool. You first want to define a skim reading tool
(control-shift-Jaws Key-Down arrow).

You have four radio buttons, select the bottom one which is color and
attributes.

Now, tab to the color selection combo box and select the color you want.
You might need to find the first instance of the blue name in your word doc
so you know which shade of blue you need to specify in the attributes box.
Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

Re: [JAWS-Users] add speakDropbox to that list of apps compatible with Windows 10

2015-08-06 Thread valiant8086

Hi.
those antimalware applications are ridiculously overbearing. They all
started reporting speakDropbox to my web host as malicious a few months
ago, my host contacted me and asked me to resolve it.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Virtual mouse cursor

2015-08-06 Thread Michael B.
Hi Kurt,

The keystroke is, Insert / Jaws key + Delete key.

For those that are wondering what the virtual cursor is / does, the Virtual
cursor is explained below:

The Virtual PC Cursor - HTML Environment
The virtual PC Cursor mimics the functions of the PC Cursor, but is
activated by default when entering an HTML document. The virtual PC Cursor
speaks the number of frames in a document, and the number of links in the
frame. You can switch between frames, and JAWS reads graphics labeled by
 alt
 tags in the HTML code.

Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] open attached doc. in protected view

2015-08-06 Thread John Justice
Sure thing, Tom.

1. Open document in protected view.
2. Locate the File tab on your ribbon.
3. Down arrow to the Info menu.
4. Tab slowly and listen for the Allow Edit button. That should be two tab
positions from the start.
5. Press Enter to activate the allow Edit button.

IMPORTANT:
Once you have taken a document out of Protected View, it's always best to
press CONTROL+S to save the document. In most cases, once Protected View
is removed, it stays that way. But occasionally, Heaven only knows why, you
close the document and when it's re-opened, Protected View reappears. If
you save the document in an editable form, that doesn't happen.

Guessing here, but I'd think that parent and sibling refer to object
hierarchy so that sibling is an object on the same level. Fir instance,
if

you were focused on a list object, each item of the list would be a
sibling, whereas the list as a whole would be the parent.
This is like the object model in NVDA and I believe VoiceOver for the mac.

I've does this so many times, I can do it in my sleep, so to speak. I'm not
naïve.
so just because I asked a question or told about my experience, do not
assume I'm a newbie.
have a nice day.

Hello:

I began the process at 9:17 pm, and completed everything at 11:07 pm.

It took 3 dvr episodes of the flintstones, one smoke and a bottle of
cocanut

watter.

I used my KNFB reader ap to check the progress; however, the only time I
needed visual assistance was at this window that stated express settings
and

once next was clicked, narorator began telling me it was getting my comp
ready and aps were being loaded etc.

My jaws began talking which is where I'm confused, because I read that we
must reinstall jaws but all is working so should I reinstall jaws?

Same thing happened when upgrading to windows 8.1 where jaws just popped
up

and no reinstall was needed.

Thanks Jim and others for reading my emails about freeking out, it was
painless.

Re: [JAWS-Users] I'm now on windows 10 pro!

2015-08-06 Thread Michael B.
Hi Kimsan,

Apparently when upgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 10 reinstalling Jaws is
not necessary. Here's the steps from Freedom Scientific:
Updating from Windows 8.1
list of 3 items
1. Install JAWS 16.0.4350 or higher, or MAGic 13.0.1119 or higher.
2. Download and run the
utility tool
to help remove older versions of JAWS and MAGic.
3. Perform the update to Windows 10 and JAWS 16 and MAGic 13 will continue
working as expected.
list end
Take care.
Mike

[JAWS-Users] Your PC May Have Been Uploading Windows 10 to Others without You Knowing It

2015-08-06 Thread Trish

Your PC May Have Been Uploading Windows 10 to Others without You Knowing It
Windows 10 upgraders may not be aware of a new addition to Windows that has the
features of a torrent client. It's called Windows Update Delivery Optimization
(WUDO).

WUDO is a peer-to-peer delivery system that allows Microsoft to upload the
Windows 10 bits stored on your system to PCs around the world. It is an
ingenious way to spread the load of distributing Windows updates and also apps.
Unfortunately, it is enabled by default on most home systems and not everybody
is happy about that. If you are concerned about using your upload bandwidth or
just leery about connecting to a bunch of unknown computers, here is how to
disable WUDO.

1. Open the Start Menu

2. Click or tap "Settings"

3. Select "Update & security"

4. In the left-side pane, select "Windows Update"

5. In the right-side pane, select "Advanced options"

6. In the new right-side pane that opens, select "Choose how updates are
delivered"

7. Use the slider (highlighted in yellow in the graphic) to turn WUDO off.

Some additional information about WUDO can be found in this post.

[JAWS-Users] Answer to RE: [Bulk] Re: Win10 download notification- what does it look like, where does it appear?

2015-08-06 Thread Don & Cher
OK, in the 'Get Windows10' app, I could not find anything new because I kept
re-checking the status menu item, because I had already reserved. But, what
I was looking for is instead again back under the 'get windows 10' menu in
the app. Here is what it will say:

Your free Windows 10 upgrade is here!
Reservation - Confirmed
Download - Complete
Upgrade - Available

Thanks to Mike and Daniel who tried to help, but I was looking in the wrong
place because I had already reserved.

Cher

Re: [JAWS-Users] narrator keyboard commands in W-10

2015-08-06 Thread Christopher Bartlett
Guessing here, but I'd think that parent and sibling refer to object
hierarchy so that sibling is an object on the same level. Fir instance, if
you were focused on a list object, each item of the list would be a
sibling, whereas the list as a whole would be the parent.
This is like the object model in NVDA and I believe VoiceOver for the mac.
