Re: [JAWS-Users] Office 2010 or 2013

2016-12-26 Thread The Iowa Gal
Hi John,

Ok, let me make sure I read your message correctly. Are you saying there are
no keyboard shortcuts for some essential functions in Office 2016? And, if
this is indeed the case, was this brought up to Microsoft right away? Maybe
this is something that Jaws could have a script for. Forgive my incredulity,
but MS just leaving these important keyboard shortcuts out of their flagship
suite is ridiculous.
No offense, John, but can anyone confirm this oversight? Because if it's
true I amgonna hang onto my Office 2010 until the last possible moment.

All I can say is wow...

In Microsoft Word and in Outlook, the editing functions are quite different.
In Office 2010, you can use keystrokes to enter your instructions. For

If you copy text from another source and try to paste it into Microsoft

Other than that, there isn't much difference on the front end. Internally,

Saving a file is no longer as easy as it was in 2010. But, those changes do

So a companion post to my message from a few days ago. I bought a tower

license key for it which I am currently using on my other systems and am
familiar with or if there is any benefit in getting a 2013 or 2016 version.
Is there anything in the newer versions of Office, in particular Outlook,

Learning curve aside, are there any substantial issues or quirks with Jaws
and the newer versions of Office. From time to time, I recall threads having
to do with this or that Office 2013/2016 and JFW issue, but as it didn’t
affect me, I didn’t pay them much attention. I’m running the latest 12/5/17

I plan on buying the32 bit version since there’s no real advantage of
getting the 64 bit one even though the machine will be 64 bit.

Any input would be appreciated.

The first question I would ask is has the scanner been cleaned? Dirty
scanner means you won't get a clear picture which will make it harder
for the OCR to do its job. The other thing I'd consider is are your
drivers for the scanner up to date? Hope this helps some.

Under Microsoft Windows, unlike other systems that I've used, re-installing
software sometimes does correct problems. I don't know why this is the case
- registry entries, perhaps, or updates that aren't installed properly.

In general, MS-Windows is very complex. There are plenty of bugs and plenty
of opportunities for problems to emerge, especially if you're using a screen
reader.

I would definitely recommend restore points, system backups and
re-installation as problem solving methods for Windows systems.

True, it may not result in anything of permanence, but something's different
on some folks' systems, and it does not appear to be tied to the operating
system the mouse/pad hardware, nor the application in use. It's so
broad-based, that I'm thinking it's a particular setting of JAWS that is
different for them than for others. But it could well be a rat-hole,
nonetheless.

It's standard for JAWS not to follow the PC cursor. That's why you have to
"route JAWS cursor to PC" when you want to use the JAWS cursor where the PC
cursor has landed. I have tremendous respect for Farfar Dave, but this is
one time when I suspect his suggestion is a distraction. I have a feeling
that David Whitehead's solution, as just reposted by Jorge, could be more
fruitful.

For the record, I am not having this problem with Outlook 2010 and JAWS 18,
although I held back from installing the current JAWS 18 release when people
started reporting this issue.

Under Microsoft Windows, unlike other systems that I've used, re-installing
software sometimes does correct problems. I don't know why this is the case -
registry entries, perhaps, or updates that aren't installed properly.

In general, MS-Windows is very complex. There are plenty of bugs and plenty of
opportunities for problems to emerge, especially if you're using a screen

Hi group,

First of all, Merry Christmas to everyone.

Santa brought me a really nice flatbed scanner for Christmas. I didn't know
that they were still made.

This is an Epson Perfection. It has quite a few advantages over the older
scanners I have used.

First of all, the Epson Perfection no longer requires separate AC
attachments.

The disk holding the drivers will install automatically. It adds an icon to
your desktop for their built-in software package. However, it works quite
well with Open Book.

The scanner is small, light and very quiet.

For some scanning operations, I still prefer a flatbed scanner over the
Pearl Camera. What's more, this thing is now on sale at Best Buy for under
$100.

Hello list,

So I don't know what I may have done, but for the last few days, I have been
experiencing an incredibly annoying issue with Jaws and composing Outlook
messages.

When I begin to type, the first few letters are spoken by jaws even though I've
always had this setting to echo speech off. The more frustrating thing is that
focus will jump around and what I type is spread out all over the document.
This is especially annoying when I'm working off a template text and have to go
hunt for the stray letters.

The thing is, if I type the first couple of letters and then erase them,
everything works fine.

I have to believe that in all my typing, I must have accidentally enabled some
sort of odd setting since this has only been a recent issue and I don't
experience it in a standard Word document. Only in Outlook messages. My version
of Outlook is 2010 and my messages are set to HTML. I am using the most recent
version of Jaws 18.

Does anyone have an idea of what may be causing this issue or what setting I
might try to change to fix it? That or is there some sort of set to default
setting in Outlook for composing messages?

Thanks,

Once again, I've set my Jaws to follow the PC.

It originally was set on "Jaws will not follow PC".

Will see if this makes a difference.

[JAWS-Users] Recent Jaws issue with typingand focusjumping around

2016-12-26 Thread Geno Stone
I had some of this issue:
Using Windows ten Completely up-to-date, and Microsoft 2016-Outlook,
complete office-With-Word and Email.
Along with Jaws 18 December release. So the issues were popping up all over
as you spoke off and Jaws stop talking. It was recommended to myself, via,
Sighted person, Maybe the over lay of it to 2013 Outlook same was the issue.
So called Microsoft Support and they seen what I was talking about. Totally
uninstalled all Outlook programs and anything related and then a fresh
install of 2016 Microsoft Outlook complete Office with Word and E-mail.
Since I have not had any issues. I am going to hang on to the suggestion
below in-case!

experience it in a standard Word document. Only in Outlook messages. My
version of Outlook is 2010 and my messages are set to HTML. I am using the
most recent version of Jaws 18.

Does anyone have an idea of what may be causing this issue or what setting I
might try to change to fix it? That or is there some sort of set to default
setting in Outlook for composing messages?

Thanks,

Hello list,

So I don't know what I may have done, but for the last few days, I have been
experiencing an incredibly annoying issue with Jaws and composing Outlook
messages.

When I begin to type, the first few letters are spoken by jaws even though
I've always had this setting to echo speech off. The more frustrating thing
is that focus will jump around and what I type is spread out all over the
document. This is especially annoying when I'm working off a template text
and have to go hunt for the stray letters.

The thing is, if I type the first couple of letters and then erase them,
everything works fine.

I have to believe that in all my typing, I must have accidentally enabled

Re: [JAWS-Users] Recent Jaws issue with typing and focus jumping around

2016-12-26 Thread Mr. Ed
Hi,
It seems to me when I am replying to a message in Outlook 2010 and I make
too many mistakes and backspace off some letters then Jaws will stop
speaking and not want to read the message. Even if I take focus off the
message then bring focus back it does not help. If I highlight the text then
Jaws reads it better. Then if I try and read it again without it being
highlighted and I get towards the end Jaws starts slowing down and not
wanting to read correctly. So pay attention if you start backspacing letter
off in a message does your jaws start acting up and losing focus. This
seems to only happen when I am replying to a message and I get about four or
five lines down in the message and start backspacing letters off when I make
too many mistakes.

Hi,
I have been having this issue for some time typing in messages in Outlook
2010. What email client are you using?

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Recent Jaws issue with typing and focus jumping around

Hello list,

So I don’t know what I may have done, but for the last few days, I have been
experiencing an incredibly annoying issue with Jaws and composing Outlook
messages.

When I begin to type, the first few letters are spoken by jaws even though
I’ve always had this setting to echo speech off. The more frustrating thing
is that focus will jump around and what I type is spread out all over the
document. This is especially annoying when I’m working off a template text
and have to go hunt for the stray letters.

The thing is, if I type the first couple of letters and then erase them,
everything works fine.

I have to believe that in all my typing, I must have accidentally enabled
some sort of odd setting since this has only been a recent issue and I don’t
experience it in a standard Word document.

Thanks,
